Check out Z-Clips, Monarch makes them. Just search for Z-Clips, they are great for flush mount. I use them on speakers that are almost 30# and very inexpensive, I think 20 clips are $16.99 plus shipping. You can even hang kitchen cabinets with these things.

Why don't you run a coaxial cable from the dvd to the receiver. you should have a coaxial output on the dvd player.

What brand and model is your dvd player?

Are you sure your dvd input is set on optical, could be set on coaxial.

Do you have your inputs assigned properly? Also check the menu on your DVD Player maybe you have to go to optical out.
