Was TV better When just 3 Networks?

Right...except for Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Ken Burns' great PBS series on WWII, The Unit, Generation Kill...yeah, you can't find war stories anywhere.

    Vague Memories and DVDs

For the examples you raised, the cross-over episodes of "Murder, She Wrote" and "Magnum, PI" were included on the respective season sets of each show. Ditto the "Magnum" and "Simon & Simon" cross-over. The individual "Homicide" seasons did not contain the L&O cross-overs, but the A&E Complete...

    Rockford versus Cannon

You've got two shows with two great lead characters played by good actors. However, Rockford gets my vote just because it's a better all-around show. The writing, particularly the episodes by David Chase, is fantastic; the Cannon episodes are just OK detective stories and don't have much in...

    The Fugitive: Season 3 Vol.2

Even as someone who has come to this as a relatively new fan, I completely echo Gary's comments and the comments made by others. I sat down the other night to watch "The Survivors," an episode I'd heard great things about. Maybe my ear is off, but this sounded like nearly ALL new music. Any...

    Crime Story worth picking up?

I rented Season 1 and loved every minute of it. I'm working through other shows before I get to Season 2, but I echo younger1968's comments. Farina is awesome, as is Bill Smitrovich as his #2 man and Tony Dennison as Ray Luca.

    Tenspeed and Brownshoe Finally

If Wikipedia is correct, CBS owns the pilot and could not come to an agreement with Mill Creek for its use. Too bad. The pilot was nominated for an Edgar Award. Because this is so inexpensive, and because I'm a big Goldblum and Cannell fan, I'll still pick this up, but I'm disappointed.

What DVDs do you plan to purchase in 2010?

Here's my 2010 list. It isn't as big as years past because so many shows I've been collecting have wrapped up (or they've released all of my "wanted" seasons). 1. Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Volume 17 2. Matlock - Season 4 3. Ironside - Season 3 (hopefully shipping/arriving soon!) Also...

    Tenspeed and Brownshoe Finally

I loved Raines too! I wish it had started out on USA; it probably would have fared better on cable than on NBC. As a big Goldblum and Steven J. Cannell fan, I'll be picking up Tenspeed for sure.

    Ironside SEASON 3

It still appears on the "New Releases" page under January. I'm hoping it went up early by mistake and we'll see it again after an announcement.

    Ironside SEASON 3

***Edit: Site now shows cover art - matches Seasons 1 & 2 but it's green. Jack P, I saw that too, but I think it's a typo. Shatner and DeForrest Kelley didn't guest in Season 2. I too would like some firm confirmation, but this surprised me to much I wanted to post it.

Matlock Season 4 Coming March 2nd

Count me in for this one. I'm glad Paramount is continuing to roll these out - and in complete season sets! Matlock switches private eyes this season and I always preferred Conrad to Tyler. Looking forward to March!

    Other 70's Detective Shows?

There's still a bunch from the NBC Mystery Movie that could be released (Lanigan's Rabbi with Art Carney; Madigan with Richard Widmark to name a few), but I don't know if they have the recognition to do well. On the plus side, most of them were only one "season" (4-6 episodes) so you could do...

The Fugitive: Season 3 Volume 1

That stinks - even more so because (as others have pointed out), these changes didn't have to be made! I'll still Netflix these, since I've heard great things about so many Season 3 episodes ("Wife Killer," "Landscape for Running Figures," among others) but won't buy.

HTF DVD Review: Fringe The Complete First Season

Great show - I'll be picking this one up soon. The season was a bit slow to start, but it really takes off five or six episodes in. Excellent review as well. I was hoping for more in the way of special features, but the episodes themselves are so good that it's not too bad.

    The Prisoner ... on Blu-ray

If memory serves, Patrick McGoohan wanted to do fewer episodes (maybe 13?), but he needed to make more to sell the show to American television. He had a vision for how he wanted the show to end, and he was able to pull it off. As for the episodes themselves, of course there is the overarching...

Law & Order Season 7 Finally Announced

I don't think Universal has a "personal agenda" against the show. SVU is the only L&O series that's gotten released at a decent pace. We're only up to Season 4 of Criminal Intent.

    Advice: Get Smart or U.N.C.L.E.?

As an owner of the Get Smart box set, here's my two cents... I could not get into U.N.C.L.E. I rented the first season through Netflix and it didn't click for me. I was psyched for it because I love Mission: Impossible, Wild Wild West, The Saint, Danger Man...a lot of the 60s spy shows. To...

Finally!!! Rockford Files - The Movies Collection; Coming November 3rd

I'll probably regret sticking my head in the lion's mouth, but if you're a Rockford fan, I can almost guarantee you'll enjoy these movies. I have I Still Love L.A. taped from TV and while it definitely brings Rockford into the 90s, the same wry humor and style is there. James Garner is one of...

Finally!!! Rockford Files - The Movies Collection; Coming November 3rd

Fantastic! Rockford is such a great show, and these reunion movies kept the same spirit and charm of the series. Only complaint is a split release, but that's a small price to pay, IMO, for getting these on DVD.
