Thanks for the edit details. I'll be buying this no matter what, but it's good to have the info going in. Can you tell me if the "Family Feud" episode is one of the heavily-edited ones?
Thanks for your insight -- I ended up getting this! Haven't had time to dig into the episodes yet but I did play the new Tomlin interviews and was quite delighted with them.
The initial press release for this collection mentioned 140 "complete" episodes but the Time Life website rather conspicuously omits that word from any of its descriptions. The occasional cut here and there won't be a deal breaker for me but then I guess it depends on what those cuts are.
Ricardo Montalban performing "A Man and a Woman." My source is a book called Television Variety Shows: Histories and Episode Guides to 57 Programs, which I located and was able to search via Google Books. I may have to pick it up, as it has detailed descriptions of, well, just about every...
This collection is one that I've been very happy with, so it's really only my obsessive curiosity that makes me ask: has anyone heard anything at all from Shout! regarding edits? Having watched three and a half seasons so far, I'm inclined to say that, if there are any, they are very well done...
"Lost Horizon" has been removed from the Warner Archive site. I sent an email asking why, and they replied, "The title was taken off the website due to a problem with the original copy." No idea what that means, exactly, and they haven't said whether it will return. I wonder if this is anything...
So glad to finally have this. Although I was never a fan of Mary's "new apartment years," I'm finding a lot about it that is actually really good. (And the new apartment doesn't seem as cold and unwelcoming as I remembered it. haha)
Sue Ann definitely has some great moments, so does Lou. I've...
I love my Rhoda set. Yeah, the pic quality looks like crap in a lot of areas (it doesn't help that my new tv is super huge) but it's great just having these episodes to watch over and over again. What a great cast, and great writing.
The holiday episode looks especially rough, but it has a...
Are "series" sets even selling that well these days? I always wonder who has the money to splash out on those things. Do we even know that the MTM series set was cancelled due to fans' complaints and not because, financially, it was a bad idea? That seems just as likely a reason as any.
I've always loved Valerie Harper and "Rhoda," a show that's been out of reruns for a decade now, so I'll still be somewhat happy to buy this. I'll just expect the absolute worst, in order to stave off any further disappointment. Music cuts, syndi cuts, awful sound and picture -- bring it on. At...
I'll still be buying "Rhoda," disappointed though I am. I've only really known the syndicated version so I suppose I won't really be missing anything.
I'd also like to know if subsequent seasons will be edited.
Actually, the first few seasons of "Rhoda" had better ratings than MTM, so who knows WHAT could happen here, sales-wise. I know I'll be purchasing one for myself and several for gifts! :P
It's a minor moment and by no means does it detract from the overall quality of the Square Pegs set, but can anyone confirm or deny whether some music has been replaced in the Child's Christmas in Weemawee episode, the scene where Patty and her father are talking in the car? It sounds... a bit off.
"Out to Lunch" -- a 1974 ABC prime-time special starring the Sesame Street Muppets, the cast of the Electric Company, Barbara Eden, Elliot Gould and Carol Burnett. All music by Joe Raposo, featuring an Emmy nominated performance by Rita Moreno! I don't think it's ever been re-run, but it sounds...
I ordered it from DDD, but they later informed me of an impossibly long backorder -- I, too, want to see this before Halloween. So I cancelled my order with them and Amazon is already shipping me a copy!
I think this is really great news, and I can't wait to see what bonus features the deluxe editions will have in store. Also, I'm hoping the specials will be restored from their currently edited state.
Well, if I could go back in time, I certainly would record all of my favorite shows. But since that's impossible, my only option is to complain! PS, "Hank" is one of my favorite sitcoms of all time. I wish it had a snowball's chance in hell of coming to DVD! Apparently there was an episode...
I'm surprised at how feeble Starz' excuse is. If I were a Roseanne buyer, I'd be on the horn, pronto, to let them know that it didn't fly with me. Also, I'd ask for an explanation for those missing non-musical scenes, and I'd specifically point which ones. Although, I guess these demands would...
I, too, would love to have a third installment! IMO, there are a ton of great TEC clips that still haven't made it to dvd. However, the lack of any news updates kinda of dashes my hopes.
Sesame's entire video library was transferred to digital some years ago. I believe they have an in-house database that can call up clips whenever they need one. As for Volume 2 of Old School, I see Amazon has a November 7 release date listed -- but of course there's been no official...
First, to answer the question at hand: No, I will not be supporting another syndi-cut release. Period. I'll just keep watching the episodes on Ion, for free. As for John Hamilton, he did answer several questions for fans over at televisionhits (the link can be found at tvshowsondvd), and...
Perhaps when the I Love Lucy "movie" is released, they'll also include "The Desilu Revue" as a bonus? (That's the episode which featured Lucy and Desi introducing the likes of Barbara Cook, Dick Kallman, and other Desilu players.) I understand the episode wasn't part of the ongoing ILL...
