He's my fave online reviewer - of films. My only major criticism is I don't think a BD review is much cop when it says it looks better than old TV prints. I mean. well duh!
I dunno...it wouldn't the first 50's European film that everyone shows in 4:3 when it's clearly open matte - Diabolique is an example. I don't think those links are proof really.
My panasonic had a 16;9 zoom suitable for blus, but that's tricky for one European title I have which is shot for 1.66:1 - and of course, the subs got cut off.
How does one get an open matte blu-ray to play widescreen on a 16:9 TV? Changing the player output to 4:3 puts big black bars at the top and bottom of the image, and if I leave the player output on 16:9, the TV's zooms distort the picture.
I thought Casino Royale came out fine, splendid picture (I know you hate it Richard , all those bossy women lol). Quantam Of Solace was such a drop in quality, it was staggaring - and I still haven't the faintest idea what was going on in it. I like Craig fine as a NEW James Bond, I don't...
I agree to a point. Too much deconstruction can break the fourth wall or spoil the flow of the story. But it certainly isn't limited to male leads, and really, I think it works fine for Batman, and I'd argue he IS an admirable male character, I just don't care for how Christian Bale plays him...
If this was done now, I think it would be found to be illegal in the UK because of their underage status. But yes, its very moving.
I really like the sex scene in the unrated version of Jason Goes To Hell - well until its interupted!
Special mention goes to the "Harry Canyon segment" of Heavy...
I enjoyed Friday the 13th a lot, more so than many of the originals. I've not dared try Halloween II cause the previous one was enough to make one become a monastic hermit!
Maybe its for the money counters then the audiences? If say, a 40 year old studio exec remembers the original Soroity Row being the best thing since sliced bread, is it his personal nostalgia and therefore existing familirarity with the concept that leads to the greenlight?
