Direct and Dish broadcast at 720p or 1080p?

Help! - No sound from audio out on Sony KDF-50E3000

Thanks Steve. I didn't know that. That may be the problem because I am using a STB from Time Warner instead of the tuner in the TV. I guess I'm going to have to run a digital out from the STB to my reciever and then another one from my DVD player to the receiver. I was trying to do it all with...

Jerome, I haven't tried that, but I will to see if that helps. Thanks. that would be a simple fix.

Help! - No sound from audio out on Sony KDF-50E3000

I just purchased a new Sony 50" RP LCD. My problem is I'm trying to run a toslink cable from the TV's digital output to my Denon reciever. I have assigned the digital input properly on the receiver, but no sound. Anyone else have this problem? I called the local brick and mortar dealer where...

    50", 1080p viewing distance

Isn't the screen door effect on LCD's only noticeable at closer distance, closer than you would normally watch it? So if I have a choice between LCD and SXBR LIcos I should go with LIcos?

    Sony of Mitsu HDTV??

Thanks William. "However, if you have to go smaller than 50 inches, at the distance you are quoting, you may not see the difference." this is what I was afraid of. that is why I didin't know if it would be worth paying more for the 1080p. I only have room for a 46" in my cabinet, plus the...

    Sony of Mitsu HDTV??

I'm going to my local video store tonight to seriously look for a 46" HDTV. I know they sell these two brands as well as a couple more. I've been leaning toward Sony, but wondered what the general consenses is for Mitsubishi. I'm also trying to decide between a 720p and the pricier 1080p. My...

    50", 1080p viewing distance

I have a similar situation, but going with a 46" Sony. I'm debating on whether it's worth the extra money buy a 1080p for $1499 over a 720p which I can get at a clearance price of $999. My viewing distance is 9' & 12'. Will I be able to tell the difference with a set as small as a 46" at those...

SVS or Def Tech for 5.1??

Thanks for all of the input guys. I'm afraid I've already installed the entertainment center, and frankly there is just not any room at all for the towers. My wife is happy, but I'm still trying to figure out my best option. The latest thing I've thought about is buying a pair Def Tech...

SVS or Def Tech for 5.1??

Well I guess I should've said that the wife is not into the big towers, plus with the entertainment center we just purchased, there physically isn't room for them on the wall. I know I will be sacraficing some sound. That is why I wanted to get the best sat system I could to try and replace the...

SVS or Def Tech for 5.1??

Considering new speakers for my home theater. I am looking at Def Tech Pro Cinema 80's and possibly 100's as well as SVS SBS-01 system from SVS. Has anyone had the opportunity to listen to both systems? I currently have Def Tech towers which I have to retire as they are physically too big now...

Def Tech Studio Monitor 350's or Pro 1000s?

Matt, what surround speakers and sub do you have with the Studio Monitors?

Def Tech Studio Monitor 350's or Pro 1000s?

Matt, thanks for the reply. I'm thinking that if I go with the SM 350's, I'll need to lay them on their side in my entertainment center so that they will fit. Is their any drawback to that, laying a bookshelf speaker on it's side? It seems like it would be similar to laying the 2002 on it's side...

    Another Speaker Placement question

What do you mean by level? Would it be okay to place the three speakers above the TV screen and angle them down a bit toward the listeners?

Def Tech Studio Monitor 350's or Pro 1000s?

I'm having to downsize my Def Tech Bp 10's to a bookshelf speaker. I'll should be able to keep my powered sub and 2002 center speaker. Anyone compared the Studio Monitor 350's to the Pro Cinema 1000's? Which sounds the best? They appear to be similar in size and price. Also I was thinking of...

Need opinion, Def Tech pro-cinema 80, Paradigm cinema. 90 or Klipsch Quintet III??

Hi Trey, Thanks for your input on the Paradigm 90's. I would rather not get into the hassle of in-wall speakers. I want to be more flexible also to be able to change things around a bit. Maybe in-wall for the rear might be okay.

Need opinion, Def Tech pro-cinema 80, Paradigm cinema. 90 or Klipsch Quintet III??

Thanks everyone for your input. I like what I have read about the HB-1's. I will probably either go that route or if I can manage to make my DT center speaker and powered sub "fit in", I may consider just replacing my towers with the DT Pro 100's and using procinema 60's for surround. I was just...

Need opinion, Def Tech pro-cinema 80, Paradigm cinema. 90 or Klipsch Quintet III??

Thanks for the input Arthur. I've never listened to the speakers you suggested. I guess I'm hesitant to buy something without being able to listen to them first. Do many people buy speakers without trying them out first? Anyone??

Need opinion, Def Tech pro-cinema 80, Paradigm cinema. 90 or Klipsch Quintet III??

That sounds promising Ricky. I am surprised to hear that the Procinema 100's outperformed the Take 5's from everything that I've read about them. I would to simply replace my two towers with the Def Tech Studio Monitor 350's if there is enough room in the entertainment center but I need...

Need opinion, Def Tech pro-cinema 80, Paradigm cinema. 90 or Klipsch Quintet III??

Thanks John. That is what I was afraid of. I had thought about trying the Def Tech's 100's and keeping my powered sub if I can fit it in. I would like to stay under $800. The problem with the other brands you mentioned is that I don't have a dealer close by to audition them. I live in po-dunck...

Need opinion, Def Tech pro-cinema 80, Paradigm cinema. 90 or Klipsch Quintet III??

I need to "downsize" my speaker system. I currently have the Def Tech towers (BP10), 2002 center, 12" powered sub, BP2x surrounds, but they no longer fit in with everything else....just too big. I like the Def Tech sound, especially the bi-polar towers, but am open to trying something new such...
