I’m pretty sure that with the RZ separate releases and new UHDs of the main series you will have every extra in the box set other than the classic 1994 H1 commentary (easily obtainable on the AB blu) and the Horrors Hallowed Grounds for Curse (which is on YouTube).
It’s only value now is...
The included blu-ray is the original Universal one. So anyone like me who’s not 4K, but picking up UHDs to watch the SDR blus of the new remaster can sit this one out and stick with SF or Arrow.
No surprise considering this is Universal. WB seems to be ones on top of this.
I have a theory that this the same SD files we all had on our 1999 discs. Maybe a mpeg4 re-encode for space. I best we can hope for in quality is a newer encode of the original SD transfer files which I’m sure would have little improvement, but hey at least it would be available.
This is incredible! The old (and now very expensive) blu had lower quality inserts of the uncut footage which were kind of jarring. A whole new consistent scan of the film is welcome.
I still haul out the real3D version of the remake every once in a while.
We almost got the same treatment in the Omen boxset with old transfers, but at least the original had a new 4K scan. I was hoping for the same here with the Cronenberg Fly. This one was still a no-brainer for me since I had none of these on Blu or even DVD.
Side note: The Omen remake in that set...
Thanks for the heads up on this. I have recently received this and have yet to watch it. Is there any way to check to see if I have the original or re-pressing?
P.S. As much as I love Hammer Dracula, I still believe I may have purchased this blu because the title looks bad-ass in my collection.
Same boat here, but I would happily upgrade if the BD discs are from the new master like the latest Matrix Trilogy. The UHD discs will sit tight until I pick up a new TV.
Happy to say this is on its way from Amazon. I had just watched 1 on a streaming service and was 1/2 way through the 2nd one before I got called away. Both were gone from the service when I went back to finish a day later.
My love of 1 and what I had seen of 2 is worth the cost of the set which...
*in my poor Professor Farnsworth impression* "Good news, everyone!"
Tom Savini’s ‘Night of the Living Dead’ Remake is Finally Getting a Non-Limited U.S. Blu-ray Release
Just the first disc in the Complete Collection box set. It is an updated version of the 35th anniversary disc with a lossless Dolby TrueHD mono track. A link from DVD compare to shows that it is also available in this set.
The 4K has a lossy incorrect mono track with the 4K 35th ann transfer and...
Same here. Our major bummer is that the lossless mono track is already there and ready on the box set. It wasn't a case of them not going back to the original tapes or film to make a new one. They could have easily ripped the track from the box blu off of the shelf itself and muxed it in. There...
I know, right! Always so close. Someone at Lionsgate and other companies needs to be always monitoring sites like this while staying close to the authoring process to avoid these pitfalls.
I would recommend one of us going to their office, moving into an empty office, and just call your self...
The Digital Bits review states "the color timing retains its proper cool autumn look in the daytime Haddonfield scenes, as well as the cool blue tint of the nighttime sequences.". Does this mean what I think it does?
If so and on a cynical note, did it take moving to a new company away from...
I am surprised that this guys movies were completely removed. It is one thing to remove it from the store front and another to remove access to any purchases.
I have plenty of games like Ubisoft's Scott Pilgrim that have been removed from the PlayStation store because the license had expired...
I'm of the mind that this would have been a blockbuster if released in theaters this December and not 5 months after the fan divisive Last Jedi. I'm picking this up on 4K and importing the 3D. Boo to Disney for not creating an all in one package for these like my Guardians 2 and Star Trek Beyond.
Here in Canada I had barely needed to return the discs of many of my previous replacements while I usually see on this forum that they had to do an exchange. They just send the discs or the whole package without a need to return the defective. I have 2 copies of Wrath of Kahn DC because of this...
Well that says it all. :)
We will know in a few weeks. There would most likely be a new listing on the spine or UPC if they replace with a whole new set, but that is rarely done. Usually there is a serial number on the inner ring of the disc. Someone would be sure to note both here.
I just received that email too. It's awesome of Universal for the quick response to this issue.
I would have 2 sets that need to be replaced. The CFTBL set that I guess I will gift now and I have the complete collection set on the way in the mail right now because I could not pass up 45% off...
This forum and an amazing sale at Amazon for $94.99 CDN ($72.13 USD) has convinced me to pick up the complete collection. Now I will have 2 copies of the bunk Revenge of the Creature.
I am gonna play it simple when it comes to watching it with my kids with well placed cell phones on vibrate behind the blanket on the couch all called at the right time. Worth the cost of upcoming years of therapy.
Just sent an email with this link. I would recommend everyone do as well. Be nice. Though I have to say I was kind of passive aggressive. The Digital Bits says
that Universal is “looking into the matter”, but we should still voice our displeasure lest they spend 2 minutes looking into it and...
Just to elaborate, the first DVD of Halloween was the poster child of not to make a DVD. It was a non-anamorphic transfer with a litter of compression errors even in the black bars. Two years later and we got the 1999 THX remaster which was the gold standard for this movie for quite a while.
The...
Anyone with concerns on this? Like Terminator 2, I have learned to never buy the first release of this on a new format.
Edit: Here is an old link describing the initial release on DVD some 20 years back along with a production diary on the creation of the beloved 1999 DVD.
Weird huh. I only found this out because I was curious on why Lionsgate was doing this release. Pour some out for AB. You're in a better place with surrounded with your 1000 different releases of Evil Dead films.
