OK to put DVD player on receiver?

Ok, just took a look and even if I wanted to I can't put the DVD player on the bottom, its about 3" narrower (front to back) than the receiver. I had hoped to put the DVD player on top of the DVR, but the DVD player is longer than the DVR (by about 2") so it does not sit straight. The only...

OK to put DVD player on receiver?

I recently picked up an Onkyo HTIB, and then a Sony NS77 DVD player. I had hoped to put the Sony beside the Onkyo, but it does not fit. So it had to go on top of the Onkyo. Since the Onkyo gets pretty hot, is this an OK solution? I am guessing its better to have the Sony on top than beneath...

    $100 DVD Player

I ended up getting the Sony, very pleased with it so far :)

    $100 DVD Player

Thanks for the reply......... I think I will most likely go with either a Philips 5982 or a Sony NS77....... both of these appear to be good ones in this price bracket. From what I have read the Sony has a better picture, but the Philips has more bells and whistles. Might have a look at some...

    $100 DVD Player

Can anyone recommend a good DVD player for $100 or less? The only thing I really want from it right now is an optical audio output. I don't (yet) have an HDTV, but plan to get one in the future. I am not ready to buy an HD / Blu Ray DVD player until one format is decided. So what DVD players...

    Receiver / Floorstanding recommendations

Thanks for a great reply, I know that $500 is a small budget. But figure that it's a good place to start, and I can ultimately upgrade if I get really seriously into the whole HT setup. Oh, one quick question........... what's J&R? I am heading to Google now, but not sure if it's an online...

    Receiver / Floorstanding recommendations

Hi, I was not sure whether to post this in the speakers forum, or in this one, or both, but decided to try here first.........I am hoping to start putting together a surround sound system and am looking for some opinions. This will be my first system, so I am not looking for the best there...

Upgrading speakers and keep the mellow highs

I used to have some Alpine components and they worked really well. What sort of budget do you have for an amp? I think you can also find some kind of quick release system for your amp to make it easier to remove on track days.

Upgrading speakers and keep the mellow highs

If you are keeping the stock head unit, and worried about the weight, then the sound deadening will not really give you all that much benefit. You could look at getting one of the speaker kits (2 square pieces of sound deadening) but TBH I would not bother. If you are also so worried about...

Reasons for buying LCD / Plasma

Thanks for the reply SteveKNJ. You are right every type of TV has issues, the more I look into them the more issues I find. I play games (although not that often) so that is another thing that worries me with plasma, but the bulb issue is also something annoying. Never really shopped for a...

Reasons for buying LCD / Plasma

Not sure if you misread my post, but I am not dictated by whether I can hang the TV on the wall or not. Sure I thought it would be nice, but the more I looked into it, the more I realized there were no advantages other than it would look cool, and would still need a stand anyway. I then realized...

Reasons for buying LCD / Plasma

I posted a couple weeks back with some questions about plasma TV's, since then I have been thinking a lot about which TV to buy. Since that time though, I am wondering if maybe I should ignore plasma TV's and go for a DLP or Projection model instead. I have read many positives about plasma, but...

    HTIB with DVD or without?

Thanks, I guess I just wanted clarification. Part of me already knew that buying the components seperately was the best way to go. Just wondered if there was any advantage to the HTIB. The Pioneer receiver Seth posted looks pretty decent, I had been looking at some Onkyo receivers and seen...

    HTIB with DVD or without?

Thanks for the replies, $400 is the budget at the moment (for at least an amp and pair of speakers). It's really the main reason behind my upgradeability questions, so that I can buy different parts as I can afford them. I can't get either of the links to Velodyne products to work, can you...

    HTIB with DVD or without?

I am in the progress of planning out my HT system, so far am most likely going to be picking up a Panasonic TH-50PX600U (either later this year or early next year) and so I am also looking at the audio side of things. For convenience, I was looking at one of the HTIB systems including a DVD...

    Help on new TV

You are the second person who has recommended the Panasonic to me. Thanks. I have a quick question though, what is the difference between the TH-50PX60U and the TH-50PX600U. I see that the 600U is 1080p compatible (via direct input, although not 100% sure what this means) and has better built...

    Lost season 3 discussion....

I thought that in one of the episodes they led Jack up to the top of a hill where Ben pointed out to him that he was in fact on another island??

    Help on new TV

I am looking to purchase a new TV in the next few months, and hoping for some opinions and advice. I have narrowed my search down to the following 2models: Samsung HS-S5073 Panasonic TH-50PX60U Both are similarly priced, and offer many of the same features. The main things I cannot find...
