    Blue-Ray vs. HD-DVD - Sales Numbers?

One reason is perhaps that because "Pirates" and other titles of theirs are so popular, holding off on releasing them for a short while gives them something major to tout at CES, which is only weeks away (and according to Bill Hunt at The Digital Bits, Disney does intend to use CES to make major...

Official Sony BDP-S1 Blu-Ray player thread

Yes, same thing at mine. Just stopped by tonight to pick up another disc and noticed the new custom Sony Blu-ray display with a rack of well picked-over discs. The Samsung was also on display nearby.

Will missed target numbers shift any format suppoft from the studios?

I've never subscribed to the notion that gamers won't purchase movies -- either downloaded or in the form of optical disc -- for their gaming system of choice. I have a big circle of West-coast friends who own various gaming systems. The XBox owners have or are hoping to purchase the HD DVD...

PS3, Samsubg HLS-6187, Superman Returns - help, ugly

It's not your PS3. "Superman Returns" is getting mixed reviews in both formats. It does seem to be a lacklustre transfer but personally, I found the movie to be ugly and dull-looking even in the theater (particularly the middle arctic section).

Blu-ray Review HTF BLU-RAY REVIEW: BLACK HAWK DOWN (VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)

Thanks for the great review, Ben. I picked this title up earlier in the week and have been too swamped with work to look at it yet. Planning to enjoy the amazing PQ/AQ this weekend!

Bad Review for "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" HD DVD - Contradicted here!

A good lesson in any case, not just this one -- no matter whether the format is HD DVD or Blu-ray. For clarity's sake, I pointed out from the get-go that this was a Warner Bros. problem.

Bad Review for "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" HD DVD - Contradicted here!

Sounds like Warner doesn't deliver the A/V quality goods on every release: http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/christmasvacation.html

Tom's Hardware: HD DVD wins, Blu-Ray loses!

It's way too early for anyone to call this race. I think both formats are going to be around for some time. It will be more interesting to see how things shape up when the stand-alone players duke it out in the new year.

Official Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-Ray player thread

Either way, as of next Friday, there will be at the very least 200,000 Blu-ray players in American homes in the form of PS3, and that number will grow quickly through the holidays and beyond as the system becomes more readily available. Even if only a quarter of those PS3 owners buy Blu-ray...

X-Men: The Last Stand Review (Blu-ray)

I can't speak to the part about Ratner being a "vocal proponent" of the Super35 format, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that the decision to shoot "X3" in Super35 was partly that of the series' producers, given that "X2" was also shot in Super35.

Fox's Steve Feldstein Puts The Format war To Rest

While it is usually the easiest target, Sony is hardly alone in its support of Blu-ray. You may find yourself avoiding a lot of products from a majority of electronics manufacturers and movie studios, if that's how you choose to deal with this "defiance."

Fox's Steve Feldstein Puts The Format war To Rest

The uproar over Feldstein's quote seems a little overblown, IMHO. The HD-DVD camp has also engaged in such word play, particularly Universal, whose spokepserson has seemingly gone out of their way to smear Blu-ray and, in particular, Sony. We're at the beginning of a format war. Of course...
