Stand-by Mode on Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-30HS510

Is there any danger in just playing it until it fails? I don't plan on putting any more money into this TV.

Stand-by Mode on Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-30HS510

schan1269....thanks for the answer. I'm sorry I am late in responding, as I had somewhat given up on checking the forum for a reply. Is it okay to just keep playing it, since the only issue is that I have to hit the "power" button twice? (And, by the way, if the television has been on in the...

Did I place this question in the wrong category?

Stand-by Mode on Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-30HS510

Recently, I have had an issue where, when I go to turn on my Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-30HS510 via the remote, it acts like it going to turn on, but then goes into "stand-by" mode. If I hit the power button on the remote one more time, it then comes on. I have tried: 1. Unplugging the set...

Universal re-releasing some of the DVD's previously released on DVD-18s?

I would be happy if they just re-released the Deanna Durbin Sweetheart Pack on single sided DVDs! One of my favorite movies (Lady on a Train) is on that set, and I'd really hate to find that it's gone bad!

Universal re-releasing some of the DVD's previously released on DVD-18s?

Thanks. Just trying to decide whether to buy all of the single-sided versions in my collection as they come out, or whether it's an awful lot of money unnecessarily spent. I'd still like some other people's input as to whether they have seen these discs "go bad" after no issues on the first...

Universal re-releasing some of the DVD's previously released on DVD-18s?

Has anyone here ever had an issue with DVD-18 discs, after playing them once and seeing that they work okay, then starting to freeze or skip during later viewiings? In other words, do they go bad, or is it just a matter of there are so many defective ones manufactured, and if you get a good one...

Universal re-releasing some of the DVD's previously released on DVD-18s?

I doubt the remaining films will ever be released, unless they are released as DVD-R made on demand. Seems the studios have pretty much all (even Disney) quit issuing any classic movies on manufactured DVD's, except to reissue movies they've released before.

Universal re-releasing some of the DVD's previously released on DVD-18s?

I know that the complete A&C box set is one sided, but I'm not sure about the smaller sets. I see the first volume in new packaging at WalMart, but I don't know if it is the two sided or one sided discs.

Universal re-releasing some of the DVD's previously released on DVD-18s?

According to Amazon.com the newer Francis release of the first volume is two discs. I saw it at WalMart, and you can tell from the new packaging that it is two rather than one disc. WalMart also has both Volume 1 of Ma and Pa Kettle in two discs, as well as the complete series (which is all...

Universal re-releasing some of the DVD's previously released on DVD-18s?

It appears that Universal is finally going back and re-releasing some of their DVD-18 releases on single sided DVD's. I've found that you can now get the Ma and Pa Kettle movies and the Francis the Talking Mule movies in the higher quality format. Are there any of their other sets for which they...

HDMI cables and 4:3 (Academy) Ratio movies

Thanks for your patience in answering all my questions. I feel more comfortable that my movie library will stay intact!

HDMI cables and 4:3 (Academy) Ratio movies

Thanks. I did know that, and accidentally used the wrong term.(I corrected my OP.) Am I correct about there being a difference in the output from a 4:3 DVD and a 4:3 Blu-Ray? Thanks for your feedback. I am relieved to hear that my DVD collection won't become worthless. A couple other questions...

HDMI cables and 4:3 (Academy) Ratio movies

I hope this is in the right category. I currently have a Sony Trinitron KV-30HS510 Widescreen CRT television and an Onkyo DV-SP406 upscaling DVD player (using component cabling, as the TV is not HDMI compatible). I am thinking about updating my system to a larger LCD or LED television, and...

Upscaling DVD player and 4:3 off-brand DVDs

Thank you for that answer. I ran the same DVD's on my laptop last night, and you are correct. I thought there was no missing picture vertically, but I was wrong. I've been watching my CRT television all this time and never realized it. Is there also a lot of overscan on a CRT as it relates...

Upscaling DVD player and 4:3 off-brand DVDs

Something is puzzling me, and I'm wondering if there is an explanation. I currently have a CRT Widescreen Sony television, connected to my upscaling DVD player only with component cables (not HDMI cables). I realize that not having an HDMI connection, the upscaling will have little effect on the...

2 More Mill Creek DVD sets coming in March

I think you'll be appalled at the transfers on Jack Benny....ESPECIALLY the "Honeymooners Show"....it's unwatchable.

2 More Mill Creek DVD sets coming in March

Having just (regretably) picked up Mill Creek's "Best of Jack Benny" release, I can say that I won't be buying ANY more issues from this "studio". I have never seen such awful transfers. The source material on some of these episodes must have been fifth generation VHS....well worn VHS at that...

Layer change...anyone else have this happen?

I was watching an old musical on DVD this weekend ("Bloodhounds of Broadway"). When it reached the layer change (between chapters 20 and 21), it paused for an inordinate amount of time, then skipped forward to chapter 22. As I immediately noticed it, I went back to chapter 20, and replayed...

    Random 4:3 to 16x9 to 4:3

No, this is just while watching standard cable programming. I'll be watching a show in normal mode, and it will suddenly stretch out to widescreen, and then back to normal. I did get a reply to a message I sent to Sony, and they believe it's the cable signal, though, since I changed my...

    Woody Woodpecker

I see a release is finally coming out of the original Woody Woodpecker theatrical shorts. What concerns me about it is that Universal is in charge. Does anyone know if this is going to be on Universal's dreaded DVD-18???

    Random 4:3 to 16x9 to 4:3

I have, from time to time, experienced my television flipping from normal screen, while watching cable TV, to widescreen, and then back. This, as yet, has NEVER happened when watching a movie on DVD or watching a VHS tape. Is this the result of some type of signal coming in from the cable...
