I would not suggest trying to manually pulling ths cd out. If you have the security code for the radio I would try disconnecting power to the unit to reset it. If that does not work then you are pretty much going to have to look at a replacement.

As an installer I never use HDMI for audio. In my opinion it is better to use Toslink or Digital Coax. You have to remember that there are still bugs with the HDMI so that is my I do it this way every time.

Both Alpine and Pioneer units are great. The Pioneer Deh-P3800 would be a good choice if you are wanting Ipod control. All you would need is the aux. input adaptor cable to input the sound.

That is probably just a glitch in the unit. I would try doing a system reset. This will wipe out all of your settings so make sure and notate the settings before you reset. In the owners manual it will show you where the reset button is. Usually is on or behind the face plate.
