The "2EQ" version of Audyssey (Oink 607) is crippled and does not even do the sub channel.
Get something with Audyssey MultEQ or MultEQ-XT. Even the cheapest Denon has MultEQ, and if you...
Two more things:
If your xbox is older and outputs over component, or if you want to connect any pre-HDMI video equipment via component, or if (even if you don't have cable/satellite right now), you want to connect a cable/sat box that has HDMI via component to avoid the common HDMI handshake...
Another thread here about inexpensive receivers: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/272396/looking-for-inexpensive-receiver-recommendations
although this person's needs were different from yours.
So you need a receiver with at least 3 HDMI inputs, but it does not have to be capable of...
I may not be able to monitor this thread much so I'll make a couple suggestions without knowing your specific needs..
If you have $400 to spend and want a current model, I'd choose between the Yamaha RX-V795 and the Denon AVR-1910 / 790. Remember that authorized dealers (the only kind you want...
The one thing you need for future compatability is HDMI that passes LPCM, and preferrably multichannel LPCM. Linear Pulse Code Modulation is the uncompressed format that all digital audio signals (except SACD's) have. You decode from the compressed format (Dolby Digital, etc.) to LPCM in your...
The Onkyo's still run hotter than I'd like.
A gentleman has written an excellent Denon tutorial that is often recommended as THE Denon setup guide:

Robert, I'm curious if product improvement has changed your outlook on this issue. My Oppo 983H passes all of Secrets tests and makes SD DVD's look very good for $400. I can't get excited about video digital processing in receivers yet but a lot of the remaining problems seem to be...
Look on page 22 of your RX-V3800 manual and you will see the signal path options through the 3800. As with most receivers, audio paths are unique to a connection type -- in other words if you want to output audio from the receiver's analog RCA jacks, you must input audio to analog RCA jacks...
Chris, you are at a similar decision point I was. Yamahas used to be able to run presence speakers in more listening modes than recent models. IIRC the dividing line was between the 2600 and the 2700 -- in the older models Yamaha had their own Enhanced decoder modes. I had originally...
Why??? If the Onkyo user / firmware update / known issue threads at AVS are too long to wade through, try this one: Onkyo tx-nr905 or Yamaha rx-v3800? - AudioReview Forums In addition to what's mentioned there: The AM/FM tuner is always on internally, and feeds through the phono input...
I'd second the Yamaha RX-V663, RX-V863, RX-V1800, and RX-V3800 depending on your budget. Go to the Yamaha site and compare the models' features. You mentioned whole house audio; check each model to see how many zones it can power. And remember that most receivers cannot send digital audio...
Not yet, Bryan. Tom has said he expects to have pricing firmed up on the single driver cabinets within 60 days, with pre-orders hopefully starting in late April or May. EDIT: My diminished capacity is giving Tom and his suppliers an extra month! Actually he said he's guessing late March or...
Kevin, you have to do driver surface areas using the part that moves only: If we estimate effective piston diameters of 10.5" for the TV-12 and 12" for the U-13 we have (6.00 / 5.25) ^2 = 1.306, or roughly a 30% increase in effective surface area. However, below the cabinet tuning point the...
Jeremy, stands will forever be getting in his way. The ceiling mounts will allow him to use that space. And the Axiom QS8s are generally considered to be the best surrounds you can get anywhere near the price -- folks use them with all kinds of other brands speakers and get great results.
Andrew, you haven't said how big your room is, or what you like to listen to. Assuming you listen to movies, in an "average" sized room, with subs that small, I'd co-locate them in a corner to get the most SPL upgrade you can in the low bass. Used that way the difference in their tone quality...
Brad, I'd run a pair of wires in the ceiling if you can -- to points about 6 feet apart and 3 feet behind your seat backs. Then I'd ceiling mount a pair of Axiom QS8s: http://www.axiomaudio.com/qs8_main.html using these brackets: http://www.axiomaudio.com/fullmetalceilingbracket.html. The...
Behringer and ART are two good brands in the less expensive price range. Here's a list of EQ's sorted low price to high at Full Compass: http://www.fullcompass.com/category/...rder=Price-Low If you want to do room correction, that is, notch filter out room resonance frequencies (generally...
John, if you go to the Hsu web page, and go to the forum, read the thread titled something like "VTF-3HO finally arrives" -- but remember to check out the dimensions and allow for the port turn up in back if you get the Turbo option -- this is not a mini sub either...
You guys are smart. Doubling your woofer area will allow you halve your cone excursion -- that means your woofer cones will follow transient waveforms more easily. Also, you can lower the tune of the enclosures and still maintain SPL. I run my four Ultras in 12Hz tune and enjoy a more...
Is this the kind of thing you are looking for? http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/c...-sw.html#yprpb EDIT: NO -- what is wrong with my mind -- you don't need component video switching -- sorry, never mind... REEDIT: Maybe! Check the table at the bottom of this page...
Tom, in that big a volume I don't think any single 12" driver will work. There's a current thread on the SVS forum at the Spot by dvdguru, who tried a single Ultra in a large volume and is now using a Plus/2. I had two CHT12's before I tried a 20-39+ with the previous 12.2 version of the Plus...
Multiple coats of Candy Apple Red clear over gold metalflake :) I have used white surrounds and in white/beige rooms they almost disappear. Folks with white/offwhite decor should seriously consider the white. Vacuum the grills gently to keep dust from accumulating.
The best technical discussion is by Rod Elliott -- a link to his pages is in this thread from DIY forums: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread/t-77499.html Mr. Elliott takes a dim view of phase controls, although admitting they are 'useful'. If you read reviews of music subs such as the...
Your room is at the large end of single driver range. If you had another $300 I'd steer you toward the PB12NSD/2, a great value for 2 12" drivers at $899. If $600 is your limit, either the PB12NSD or the 20-39PCi(NSD) will do a great job for you. The PB10 is a little small in that room IMO.
Two in front can control the slide of a /2 cabinet down carpeted steps. To compare the tone quality of the TV12 (Ultra) and the new 12.3 version of the Plus driver you will have to hear them side by side in the same room -- not too many (any?) folks have both. So if you can make it to the SVS...
And Rademacher... I have four Ultras in a 16x18 room with openings. Your room is too big for one 12" driver. To minimize distortion and have effortless bass you need radiating area. You could go with two Ultras -- but with the new 12.3 Plus driver the gap has closed quite a bit. I just read...
Thanks, John... Rademacher, you will do better with two 12" drivers in that room. In other words I would cross off the PB12-Plus single driver, and choose based on available funds between the NSD/2 and the PLUS/2. If you can afford the Plus/2 I would rec it in that room -- some folks with...
