What is the difference between the 2 Toshiba models?

Jay, You're either gonna need an HDMI switcher, or a new receiver that has multiple HDMI inputs. Personally, I have the Pioneer Elite VSX-74TXVi that has two HDMI inputs (1 for upconverting DVD player and 1 for DTV box). I then run a single HDMI cable from the receiver to the Panny 900 projector.

    VSX-72TXV MCACC question

That's generally the best way to do it. All small and crossover set to 80Hz. My setup is similar, no surround backs. MCACC comes pretty close, but you should need to tweak the distance and channel levels some with a Radio Shack SPL meter.

How did you hook up to 74txvi? And what are your settings on the sub?

    Which one to choose?

Front projectors will absolutely meet all of your above 3 criterias, but the downside is indeed being able to control the light in your room. Based on your description, this would be a major concern in your setting and going your previous DLP route may be a better bet in this situation. But if...

    Confirm my projector choice...

I, like you and many many many people, had it boiled down to Z4 and 900 a few months ago. I decided on the 900 because of less SDE (Panny's Smoothscreen) and better out-of-the box picture (as noted from many reviews). One thing to note about the 900 is the picture is a little soft, but I'm still...

    Which one to choose?

Don't be afraid to research more about the front projector route. I came from rear projection and thought projectors were pretty complicated. It's pretty simple actually, pick a quality projector and screen and sit back in awe at the size and quality of a good HDTV channel or DVD. The difference...

    1080p Question

Take a look at this very good article about Toshiba's HD-DVD player. Looks like the Panasonic 900, among others, was able to connect flawlessly. As most new user have been saying and also the reviewer, looks like its better to feed 1080 (let projector rescale to 720p). Ohhhhh......so tempting or...

    Directv H20 High Def receiver??

I'm very satisfied with the HD reception, and agree with everyone that it is easier to pick up OTA with the H20. Only complaint is that menu could be faster. You get used to it after awhile. Not a big deal though.

    Projector screens?

David, Generally, screens come in a classic white material or a slightly greyish color material to help improve blacks for situations where you may be watching your projector with some ambient light, either light fixtures/recessed lights or sunlight through your window/shades. Screens are...

    1080p Question

Thanks for the reply. I just thought the Panasonic 900 and most other 720p projectors could only accept 1080i, not 1080p of the new Blu-Ray/HD-DVD players. And how about the content on the new DVDs. Are they encoded in 1080i OR 1080p?

    1080p Question

Panny 900 owner here. When the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD players come out in the near future, can they be hooked up to the current 720p LCD/DLP projectors? Will they be able to downconvert or only output 1080p? Thanks.

Ray, Does that same vendor also carry the Panny projector. Maybe he's pushing his preferred vendor.

    projector for my theater room

Visual Apex has the 900 for a little less than $1900 and $400 rebate for purchases up till 3/31/06. Only a few days left. I also considered the Z4, but in the end chose the 900. Can't go wrong either way.

    projector for my theater room

My vote is for the Panasonic PT-AE900U. I'm biased because I own one and couldn't be happier. You should also try to go with HDMI input because it will give you the best video quality.

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Thanks. If I do the test by turning off the sub, do I change the surrounds to Large or keep them at Small. I'll also try to reverse the connection at the speakers, and at the receiver surround speaker input just to check there wasn't a mistake at manufacturing.

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Yes, rear surrounds are set to small. They are B&W DM602 S2 brand. I haven't tried the sub rumble tones with sub off yet, what do you feel that would show. Thanks.

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Brian, I set my crossover in the Pioneer 74TXVi to 80Hz. Speaker distance was also verified with tape measure, and the sub sits between my center and front right speaker. On the alternating AVIA sub test tone I mentioned, I remember when it plays the surround part, SPL reads 85dB, but then...

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Another question related to sub calibration. I actually calibrated to 85db, but may back down to 82db as suggested. One thing I noticed is when using the AVIA tones listed under Subwoofer Calibration, "Subwoofer Level, Right-Surround/Left-Surround" (alternating tones), the SPL reading...

War of the Worlds damaged my SVS!

I thought receivers send out 75dB test tones at reference level. Should you adjust your channel levels to read 75dB on an SPL meter?

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Patrick, Since you stated you are using receiver's internal test tones, shouldn't you be calibrating to 75dB? I think only AVIA test tones is calibrated to 85dB.

    projector question...

Joel, By plugging in a 100" diagonal screen on the calculator, you are correct that the maximum distance the projector can be put at is 20.2 feet. But you need to look at the Throw Distance ruler and it states the minimum distance is 10.1 feet. So if you mount anywhere between 10.1-20.2 feet...

War of the Worlds damaged my SVS!

Hello...I just joined the SVS club and received my PB12+ yesterday. When calibrating with the RS SPL meter, the needle bounces quite a bit on C Slow settings. Is this expected? I also have the Pioneer 74TXVi receiver as the original poster, and noticed Auto MCACC calibrated a little low when...

    Pioneer Elite MCACC

Thanks for the reply Steve S. I did try to read the manual several times, but its hard to understand the dependencies between all the settings. I'll read it again and make sure to include the footnotes. 5. Where do you select it to use "Reg" Acoustic Cal EQ versus "Pro" Acoustic Cal EQ...
