About to buy f PJ and make DYI Screen...

OK, my HT is progressing to the point where I am looking at buying a front PJ (probably Infocus 4805, maybe 5000). But first, I was wondering if someone could help me. How high does the ceiling need to be to use a PJ? Mine is 6'6" tall. I can mount PJ about 12' away on the ceiling, is that...

Picking a general purpose HT projector

Maybe I should re-vise my question. Will the 4805 be able to display HDTV signals at 80" and have them look better than CRT non-HDTV? Or is it worth it to get the 5000 for this task, and leave a little light on while watch DVD movies ?

Picking a general purpose HT projector

OK, I've read thru about 1000 threads on the Infocus 4805 vs 5000 and each has its proponents. Most people say that if the room is dark pick the 4805, otherwise if you have some light pick the 5000 (more brightness). Fair enough. But after reading thru the threads dealing with HDMI, HDCP and...

HT newbie w/ some audio questions

Hello all. Wondering if you could enlighten me on some audio questions. I am builing a dedicated HT room in my basement, and currently would like to "re-use" some of my equipment (audio) to help keep costs down. I have a Yamaha HTR-5635 or 5640 home theater reciver, it outputs 5.1 and I...

Constant height, throw distance, and other questions

FWIW, CA actually stands for Chromattic Abberation. It can be present in Apochromatic optics, but Apochromatic optics use very rare metals as coatings (i.e. expensive optics) to reduce it to null. Cheaper department store telescopes of the refractor variety usually display "CA" on bright...

    Infocus 4805 with SD signal?

So, one should run S-Video from Sat receiver to this projector for decent TV? I'm probably going to use 80" screenm trying to find out what to expect. What about DVD? Is thre image just as good a a CRT television or better using S-Video or Component from DVD player?

Started HT, plz review my plans?

Thanks for the advice! I went ahead and bought black satin paint instead, wise adivce there. Tihs room is so dark anyway I don't think the flat vs satin will make much of a difference. I also have some concrete walls to "touch up" from slight water damage. I bought some UGL patch for that...

Started HT, plz review my plans?

Thanks for the advice! I'll try to add a link to my gallery via my profile. Obviously the walls need some TLC and paint, and the fridge and armoir are going bye-bye. I'd only add recessed light near the doorway and maybe equipment rack. I'm an X10 buff so I'd automate all the...

Started HT, plz review my plans?

First, great forum. Thank you! Scenario: Basement room 13.5' long by 10.5' wide (I guess thats smallish?) Ceiling only 6.6' high! Particle/MDF ceiling. Concrete walls on 2 sides, wood fiber board partition walls on 2 sides. 2 wood doors. I already "started" by gutting all peg boards...
