Hi all, I recently purchased a 32" Samsung series 4 LCD (LN32A450) and got a really good deal on it. However I am noticing problems on Channels 4 (NBC) and 26 (WETA) with the audio syncing up with the picture. Most of what I read says that the sound is usually before the picture (which is...
Hey everyone, I have basic cable TV (at school). No cable box (no access to one). The RG6 goes from the wall to my TV. I want to know if there is a sort of 'reverse RF Modulator' that could get the audio to my HK AVR235 and the video to my TV (the TV does not have audio outs. It only has coax...
I've recently started upgrading my stereo to a decent entry-level set up, but now I need a DVD Player. Currently I own a Magnavox from a few years back that I got from Best Buy for $35. My biggest pet peeve with it (besides PQ, which does not yet matter because of my lack of an hdtv) is that you...
I have the Athena F2.2's and have been very happy with them. They are pretty solid sounding for bass, however I prefer to play them in 2.1 with a 15" sub. I would check out online dealers for them, however. I found my F2.2s for $400 /pair at audioadvisor.com and they were about $600 /pair at...
Would be nice to have a GOOD subwoofer along with my Athena F2's and HK AVR235... (at the moment its a 15" DIY Quatro :-/) Thanks guys, you're awesome! AL
I have the Athena F2.2's (paid $400 online, couldve done around $350ish thru best buy). And boooooooy do I miss my discount there... I wasnt impressed with the WS series, however the 100's do have a nice soundstage- but I really prefer bass more; I completely understand the desire for a sub...
Let me know what you think of that sub. Because I'm in the EXACT same boat as you are. (Worked at Best Buy, got an all Athena set up, now that I don't work there i need a sub). I made a DIY 15" Quatro for about $300, but it just doesnt go as low as my friends 12" Dayton. Sorry for the...
I kinda hate to go against what everyone else is saying, but of all the Athena's I own (F2.2's and Point 5's), all the manuals say to set the speakers to "large." To be honest, I just did what the manual said- I have not set them to small to test it out. Otherwise, don't worry about blowing...
The RS isolator was connected between the sub and the sub cable. Okay, when I get home (hopefully this weekend) I'll unplug everything and start rewiring and see how it goes. Thanks a lot for your help AL
There is no cable going from the wall to the TV (the only connection to the tv is via composite video from the receiver) To be honest I have not tried unplugging the composite cord (and it is also difficult for me because I am currently living at school a fair hike away from my home with the set...
I am having a problem with my DIY 15" Quatro humming, so after reading the forums I purchased a $18 ground loop isolator from radio shack. This solved the problem untill I turned my system off then on again. Surely enough, the hum was back. This is how everything is wired: One powerstrip...
Clay- Currently I own the Athena AS-F2.2's as my mains, but have audutioned the entire line. The F-1 will give you higher power handling and deeper bass over the B-1. Also, the F-1 is a little more efficient so it means it will be a little louder and full sounding with the same amount of...
Do you by any chance have Athena speakers? (that sounds like a quote from their manual) Anyways, play with the settings on your receiver and you can turn ProLogic on to make the audio come out of all the speakers. Hope it helps, AL
Thanks everyone! Yeah, it's too bad but Seth is right about my tv :-/ Currently its a 20" Panasonic thats atleast 6 years old. Anyways, thanks to everyone for the input, looks like I'll just try and find a Panasonic or Sony dvd player and play with the connections. (The avr has 192/24 DAC so...
Alon- Thanks for the reply and I was looking at the oppo based on other peoples comments as well. However it was my mistake to not clarify what I meant about my budget and being a college student. I would like to keep this as inexpensive as possible, hopefully not above $80. (Harman Kardon...
I currently have a Magnavox DVD player that is probably a couple years old. It does its job fine, but its a little noisy (You can hear thedisc spinning in the tray). I want to upgrade, however being a college student I have very limited funds. I do not have a fancy TV and sound quality is most...
Nagesh- Have you tried looking into Athena speakers? The "Athena Point 5 MKII Speaker System" should fit nicely into your budget. I run Athena F2.2's off my HK AVR235 and I could not be happier with the clairity and soundstage they provided. A buddy of mine has the S.5's running off his...
Oh, that I didn't know. I have yet to test the cable because my DIY sub is not quite done- however the build quality of the cable seems great. I would never pay $100 for a sub cable, however for $30 this wasn't a bad deal at all. AL
I was looking into purchasing a sub cable for my DIY Quatro and came accross a sub cable on E-bay by Raymond Cables. It is there only Sub cable with a 'Y' splitter and retails for around $100, but i got lucky enough to pick it up for $30. Looking over details about it on the website, i saw this...
The short answer is no. However, it really depends how you are connecting everything. Using a digital connection between the two (either digi-coax, or optical) will allow cleaner sound in addition to the ability to decode surround sound signals (this is assuming you have a surround sound...
Anyone ever had a hamburger from CheeBurger Cheeburger? It may just be a chain in maryland, but besides the fact that theyre amazing, if you finish the one pound hamburger, they take your picture and put it on the wall. (you decide if thats good or not)
How big of a room are you working with?- that is one of the biggest factors in deciding beneficiality of presence speakers. However, your ear will ultimately decide what sounds good and what does not- try a regular 7.1 set up and see how that sounds. If youre not happy add the presence speakers...
That would work. Its best to keep all the speakers in a similar series in a company to increase the odds of perfectly mathing the timbre. In most 7.1/7.2 systems that I have seen (and the one I own) all 4 rear speakers are identical. However, I would debate how many speakers I am running off a...
I like the numbers and the prices, however as much as I want to build a 15" Quatro, I'm beginning to wonder if it will require too large of a box for my tastes. Are there any drivers that would yield similar musical results for around the same cost? Thanks, AL
After getting a lot of help from you guys in picking out my system (HK AVR235 + Athena F2.2s) I decided I wanted to try DIY for a sub. Most people said to use a PE Quatro 15" and PE 240 watt plate amp. It is for 90% music (classic rock) in a medium room. My questions are: -for an extra $20...
To be honest, I can't say I ever heard psb speakers, but I own Athenas and am quite happy with them. One of the advantages of the athena as line is that they all have identical 1" teteron tweeters. This means that you can pretty much mix and match almost any of their speakers and the timbre...
neither tweeter or midrange is working. I tested to see if the crossovers still worked my taking an extra 8" drive ri had laying around the house and hooking it up. sound came out of both the midranges and vibrated slightly with each tweeter. From that I think the crossovers and woofers work fine.
