Abilene Town (1946) is a fairly low budget Western starring Randolph Scott, Rhonda Fleming and Lloyd Bridges, that plays somewhat like a B-movie even though at 89 minutes it was probably considered an A-movie. Abilene Kansas is a new town in the middle of a range war between the incoming...
My first entry in the challenge is The Last Wagon from 1956 starring Richard Widmark and Felicia Farr. It was viewed on Koch Media Blu-ray (and Fox DVD, more on this later in the rant at the end of my review). Widmark is Comanche Todd a white man who has lived 20 years with the Comanches and is...
So did Sleepless in Seattle get Dolby Atmos when Vudu finally upgraded it? I know iTunes did not. Also looks like the TV app on my devices has been updated so now you can see more specs (like 4K or HD) on the purchase button so that you know what you are buying now.
Just picked up Kramer Vs Kramer, His Girl Friday, and The Last Detail from FanFlix latest 3 for $15 deal. All in 4K. I didn't even know The Last Detail was available in 4K.
Well I was all set to start this challenge when on the night of February 28 I had to be taken to the ER and was diagnosed with a kidney stone! Very painful indeed. It appears to have just passed, but I’m still sore and weak, and have residual pain. Hopefully I’ll be able to get started soon.
Pray tell, what is that? I’ve never heard of a 35mm 6-track magnetic master. 70mm sure, but 35mm was limited to 4-track. Unless this was a 6 track element, striping on a 35mm roll without picture that was meant for use with a 70mm release that never materialized.
I watched All of Us Strangers last night, and was hugely disappointed. Perhaps all the hype made my expectations too high. There were no surprises for me because I fully expected several possible scenarios and knew at least one of them would be the answer. Well it’s too bad, because I am a...
So I've culled a shortlist of possibilities of Westerns for me to watch in March. These are all titles I haven't seen for at least a decade or more. I won't get them all watched for the challenge, but maybe half of them???
Abilene Town (Panamint BD)
Bad Company (digital HD)
The Big Trail (Fox...
The Digital Bits has the lowdown on what happened. Apparently Disney is turning over all its physical media replication and distribution processes to Sony.

I’m not. It was time. I had quit several years ago when there were no classic titles left for me to purchase. I hope they rechannel their resources into making all their back-catalog releases available for digital purchase.
I feel like a broken record with this, but it's because your Apple Library hasn't been refreshed yet to update the movie's status. Something will eventually trigger a refresh, or else you can log out of your Apple account and back in to force a refresh.
Oh, in that case they are selling a future-proofed code that will allow 4K access should that title ever come out in 4K, but no, Seabiscuit is not available in 4K on MA. Titles available in 4K will show this at the bottom of the screen (unless you already own the title)
This is what is...
It looks like Sleepless in Seattle is available in 4K/HDR on Movies Anywhere app, but of course no retailer yet has the 4K available for sale. If anyone has redeemed the code they could verify whether MA actually does play back in 4K.
Hey Will,
I finally got around to watching Saltburn, really having no idea what to expect, because SO MANY people really hated it. I did enjoy it. It certainly doesn't qualify as a movie that can be included in a "Gay Friendly" thread! :D I loved the sumptuous, colorful (and Academy Ratio)...
So here's a new one (apologize if it has already been discussed, but I don't think it has), since Amazon switched to Prime/with commercials, I now have issues with original frame rate on my Apple TV box. Thankfully all the titles in my Amazon library that are "purchased" still play back with...
I was just about to complain about that. Sony goes to all the trouble to create these Atmos remixes and has a terrible track record with pushing them to the digital providers.
I hadn’t heard of this either. It was published in July 2021. It must be with the permission of the Forster estate as “Maurice” is definitely not in the public domain. I’m a little cold on the idea of modern authors continuing stories from long-dead authors, which is why I never read...
Not quite. While the 4K home video spec is 3840 X 2160 (1.78:1) the theatrical 4K DCP spec is 4096 X 2160 (approx 1.90:1). While 2.39:1 uses the full width, 1.85:1 does not. The 2.21:1 ratio doesn’t exactly conform to either of the automatic projector settings that theaters use. To avoid...
Well, gosh darn, I couldn't get it down to just 10. I got the following. I decided to pass on Mata Hari and Mogambo because I think those 2 are very likely Archive candidates with Mata Hari finally getting its correct aspect ratio of 1.19:1 and Mogambo getting a new digital recombine of the...
Yeah, Station West is one I’ve had my eye on for a long time as a blind buy, so it will definitely be on the shortlist. I’m trying to whittle my selections down to just 10 titles!
