    Panasonic 58PX60u versus Pioneer 6071HD

For me, the difference is less about the PQ, and more about the bezel & stand - the 60u just looks cheaper. The 600u is a bit better. I wish the BB price for the 6071 was more reasonable - their price is really out of whack compared to the authorized online dealers selling the 6070.

Will BB Match A Onecall Price?

Will a Bestbuy store match a Onecall online price? Has anyone done it? BB's price on the Pioneer 6070 plasma is MSRP (obscene!). I want to buy local but not for a $1700 premium!!

    American Made Speakers

I would be willing to bet the steel used to make the round enclosures for Orb and/or Gallo doesn't come from the USA! Mark of AV123 often talks about needing to travel all over the world to source components, and the forum often talks of "shipments" of new products arriving in L.A. - I don't...

    Another SVS PB12-Plus/2 question

Before ordering, I made a cardboard mock-up of my sub and set it in the room. My wife did the hysterics routine for a few days, but I just left it there and after a few days more she forgot all about it. I then ordered the sub, and when it arrived it was a non-event. ;)

Best 50" Plasma available today or soon

Unfortunately, contrast ratio specs mean very little. The mfrs can use several different methods for calculating the numbers, and there are no real standards. Some of the methods have very little to do with real-life usage. Wildly overstating the numbers is also very common - I'm sure most of...

    New Pioneer 5070HD Plasma w/1080p....???

This year it appears BB is including a second, smaller remote with the 5071 instead of the wall mount. I played with one today at the local BB, and for the first time ever they had the remote available. I was able to get it off Dynamic and wow - it looked great. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to...

    SVS or Build

You can take this cr@p as far as you want to - where do you think the steel in the driver frame comes from? Or the screws used to hold the driver in place? Or the rubber in the driver surround? Or the transformer in the power amp? Or the copper wire in the cables? Good grief, we are living in a...

The best pair of speakers below US$600.00

"No outside considerations" - so it's OK to recommend a speaker that requires a healthy amplifier? Great speakers, but the MMGs need more than the typical BestBuy 7.1 AV receiver can deliver. Honestly, I don't think this is a question that can be answered by anyone other than you. There is...

    SVS or Build

I really envy the folks who have the tools and the know-how to build their own enclosures. I have spent quite a bit of time studying the diy sites trying to screw-up my courage, but I'm just not confident enough in my wood skills to try it. My stupid perfectionist, engineering brain just won't...

    anyone ever heard about Advent?

In the 70s and through the 80s Advent made some really good speakers. Advent was a king of the mid-sized, mid-priced, acoustic suspension (sealed) speakers. Beautiful wood cabinets, great tweeters and distinctive light colored grills. It really is a shame that some of these great old names in...

Worried about old speakers with new receiver

Typically, high impedance isn't a problem for an amplifier - it is low impedance that can cause an amp to overdrive. High impedance just means the system won't be able to play as loud. Here's a simplistic explanation: http://www.hometoys.com/htinews/feb0.../impedence.htm

sub placement- too close to tv? (pics)

Bottom line: Any large magnet near a CRT is going to cause interference unless it has good shielding. If either your sub or yout main speakers are not shielded, then putting your TV (which looks like a ~27" CRT) on the unshielded speaker will probably be a problem. Subs cause more issues because...

    rear speakers

Yikes! That was shipping damage? Did you get shipping insurance? The seller isn't going to help you out of this mess at all? I gotta say I wouldn't have sold my existing speakers before receiving the new ones - but I suspect you're already kicking yourself plenty for that. Good luck!

    Did I Do Something Bad?

The crossover isn't a cut-off, it is a slope that starts at the crossover freq. Usually, the slope is something like 12, 16 or 24 db/octave - I don't know what the Yamaha uses. The slope allows the mains & center to be sloped down, while the sub is sloped up so they will blend together smoothly.

    Dayton 12 inch?? ON SALE

How does the Dayton really look? The picture at PE is not very flattering - it makes it look sort of KLH cheap & ugly, if you know what I mean. It would be a lot easier for me to get WAF for a pair of the Daytons if they look better than a cardboard box that has been spray-painted black. :)

older klipsch speakers, corner horns,la scala's etc

The first really serious system I ever heard was a pair of KHorns when I was about 16 years old that belonged to the grandfather of a girl I was dating. It was unforgetable, and I credit that experience with starting me down the road of really enjoying quality audio. For years I kept an old...

    Outlaw vs SVS

The $150 higher price of the LFM-1 buys you a 12" driver instead of the 10" in the PB10. Both are really good subs, and either would be a great choice. You would probably need to try them both to make a definitive call.

KEF kicks out BOSE or does it?

There is a big difference between "paper" and "cheap paper". Bose has plenty of "cheap" in their design, and very little "cheap" in their price...
