Well there might be a better bang for the buck, you definitly want to get something to match your other speakers. Different speakers have different sound characteristics even within the same brands and models. I think your choice is obvious. Axiom. I assume you are happy with your current Axioms

I don't see why it wouldn't be alright. I don't think the MCCAC auto calibration would work though. It might but I can't verify it MCCAC controlls the preouts in the same way as it's internal ampifier

Sounds like you might have a problem with bad solder connnections on the IC's. When everything warms up joints expand and all is good. Probably wouldn't hurt to get in there with some compressed air and blow off the dust after 7 yrs

The 1014 is a bargain It's a $1000 Pioneer Elite grade receiver for $400. Get it! I would rather have the power and features and not need all of them than want them and not have them. Don't be surprised if you want better gear soon after you buy anyway. The pioneer will still be able to handle it.
