I think giving up on 3D may come down to economics. I don't hate it, but I would not miss it either. The bigger dropout was plasma. But I do think OLED will replace it eventually and at reasonable pricing. That is only a matter of time.
Curved should be an option. I don't care for it myself...
I actually purchased my Emotiva XPA-5 used, the 5 year warranty was transferred. I could not be more pleased with the performance. They have had a small issue with somewhat fragile RCA input connectors on these units. I went with the XLR connections on the unit and purchased XLR to RCA...
Nice setup.. I gravitated from an Onkyo receiver to an Emotiva UMC-200 to pair up with my XPA-5. Excellent intgeration. I have to admit Emo has has had some rough spots with regards to service and upgrades. They are improving in that regard, but the SQ has never been in question.
Get virtually any reasonably priced cable that's rated for 1.3. And those rated for 1.3b or 1.3c are only selling points and have nothing to do with the actual quality of the cable. Besides monoprice, BJC also sells a less expensive line under the Tartan name.
I would call or email their customer support. Obviously, they are hell-bent on any updates being automatically downloaded via an ethernet connection. Strange they provide the download with no specific instructions. I would not assume anything with regards to the actual procedure without calling...
I will be selling my 5000. Opted for an Outlaw Audio LFM-1 EX. The difference is significant. Power is not a LOT more, although in all honesty it has at least as much output and this is with a 12" driver vs. the 15" in the 5000. (Unit weighs 80 lbs with the smaller driver vs. 70 lbs of the...
I agree, in the process of replacing my 5000. Nice sub, musical, powerful enough, and nice looking. But extension sucks. Other problem (related to more extension) is not enough cabinet rigidity. Only the high-end velos tend to have everything and they are easily 2X and 3X the price of the...
I am actually shopping again for a sub. My 5000 is holding up just fine. I recently had my new display calibrated, and the pro did a check of my audio..it had previously been set up professionally, (speaker placement, etc.) and he said that was fine. But sensed (with a small freq analyzer) that...
While I have not run through the sheer number of disks you have, my experience with the 5000 parallels yours. I see now Oppo is jumping into the fray, and with the potential for a BD player that also does justice to std. DVD, as well as playing DVD-A and SACD, my 5000 could end up as back-up...
For the techies, the latest Samsungs are getting more attention. In particular, the 550/650 models and the soon to be released 760. The large number of controls available plus the ability to calibrate the display and yield impressive results. There are user controls for primary as well as...
You may want to jump into 'this' discussion to find your answers. Basically, 'yes' and having 7.1 analog outputs on this player is certainly an advantage for some us (the only duo player that does, presently). But there are problems with specific codecs, and also with the fact it does not...
It's great leap in technology, but I am not convinced the picture is any better than the best top line DLP without an LED. The cost trade off is fair, considering no UHP lamp or a color wheel to fail, and no light fall off as a standard lamp ages. The LED dimming used the latest Samsung LCD...
I have an XA1, wonderful player. Sorry about your misfortune. I just recently jumped into a Samsung BD-UP5000. As far as playing HD DVDs on it, it's virtually transparent from the XA1 except handles the disk much faster. Ejects almost immediately. No problem with web updates, etc. Bonus, the PQ...
Yes it does. It will only output TrueHD in 2 channel, until the May (or sooner?) update. My work around is simply to use the 're-encode' mode for converting the Dolby track to DTS for all multichannel audio. And route via optical (or digital coax). I can't imagine listening to movies anymore...
I looked very close at the LG myself. The absence of analog outputs (5.1/7.1) is the main thing that excluded it from my list. I think with the latest upgrades the Sammy will be a very good machine, even if it never attains profile 2.0. Biggest thing against it is Samsung's reluctance to...
UPDATE: Have my new 5000... one freeze on BD movie 'Hit Man'. I've had a similar freezes on my XA1, not common though. Need to see if it will do it again, maybe the disk? Tried assorted disks, all formats (but for Hit Man did not play them all the way through). Not a single glitch. Can...
Well, I'm late jumping into this one. I have the same sub, it was a demo and failed when I first plugged it in. Dealer rushed a new amp (common problem early on) from Velodyne and installed a week later. Not a single problem since then, it's been almost a year. At discount the 5000 is a...
That's part of the problem with dual players. We are talking about a fairly high degree of complexity and more chance of problems. The convenience is hard to beat though. I know the Samsung has had it's share of problems, but from what I read now across a few forums, most owners are quite...
The main thing that keeps me from the LG is lack of analog output. In all other aspects, it has the edge (in firmware especially) over the Sammy. But the 'promised' update in May is supposed to take to 1.1 also. I guess both players suffered a bit in terms of handling codecs. Glad this is...
Not only makes more sense, but 'common' sense would say if KURO can not continue and improve as they introduce newer models, they will fall flat on their face, regardless of how they obtain their glass. The same goes for Panasonic who continues to show improvement also. Historically, both...
I am toying with similar thoughts. I have an older, but very good Toshiba XA1. The biggest problem with the Samsung is that it will likely be the last dual player they will make. LG makes one that right now costs more and actually has fewer features. Samsung says they will continue to support...
If you are late to the party, I must be in line for the next one! :) I built my system around Ikon 6s. Even my dealer suggested the 7s might be a bit too much for my intended room size, etc. Quite honestly, for all I've heard Helicons and lower, I would consider going with the new Mentor...
A quality speaker system for a reasonable price. $1150 or bo The 750 front right, left right, and center with 2 S-550 monopole surrounds and 12” subwoofer. Audio-wise these all are perfect. Cosmetically I will take them down to a 7 for 2 reasons: 1) One S-550 has a small broken area...
