I love my Oppo too. :)
However, when my son was interested in purchasing a blu ray player and asked me which one I would recommend, I recommended the PS3 him because I thought it would fit his viewing needs better. I saw little point in him spending extra money on features he would never use.
I would do the same if he were my friend. But your friend isn't coming on a public forum claiming to see a difference and asking for the opinions of others like Nelson did.
Don't you think it important to point out to enthusiasts how easy it is for us to be tricked by our eyes and ears...
I think it should matter to those considering purchasing a blu ray player. Glad to see that others have pointed out the facts in this particular case. :)
I too would have no incentive to pick up the 2D version unless those corrections have been made.
Have those corrections been made to the 3D version? It would be troubling to learn that they have been without also being applied to the 2D release.
Personally I'd give that honor to Slaughterhouse-Five.
In any case, I dearly wish both of these films make it to blu ray soon as thy are both favorites of mine.
Mine was estimated to arrive one Monday also. Still not here. Mail delivery in my neighborhood is generally after 4pm. So won't know for awhile whether or not it comes in today.
First time I've had an amazon.uk package arrive after the projected delivery date. They are usually a couple of...
I don't think a third or fourth viewing is going to help you here. The character portrayed in the film is designed to be an enigma. You shouldn't come away from the film thinking that you now know who Lawrence is and understand his place in the world.
If you want to have a good...
Your are lucky to have a copy. It is now out of print and very hard to obtain.

I have the trade edition they put out and one of the one thousand cloth-bound limited editions.:D
I know Wilson plans to release a paperback...
No emotional payoff at the end? Not sure what to say except that ending is one of the more powerful ones in cinematic history.
Sorry to hear you lost your original post. Has happened to me all to often and it is damn irritating.
You could very well be right. In any case I think most viewers would agree that the emotional impact of the film would be greatly lessened without that drive under the trees.
Thanks for the great info, Robert. Will have to try that route next time we go down to San Juan. My wife is not a big movie buff but she does enjoy walking around the town and eating at some of the restaurants down there. The Jardines de San Juan has a great outdoor setting with live music...
Thanks for the correction. I was thinking about heading toward San Juan from San Francisco which is the route that Stewart would have been driving in the film.
Guess it is another example of how Hitch moved geography around to meet his needs.
Sorry, but you won't be driving through any tall trees. There are a few trees in the area, but nothing like that great scene in Vertigo.
It is quite interesting going to the places where Hitchcock filmed and seeing how he altered the landscape to match his own vision. For example, when...
Didn't experience that here in Dublin, CA. Audience seemed to laugh at the appropriate times. I was pleasantly surprised.
Have seen Vertigo play in the Castro and there is always a big laugh in the scene where 'gay San Francisco' is mentioned. But given the change in the use of the word...
For those interested in learning more about Lawrence there is a very good website that is run by Jeremy Wilson HERE.
I was surprised to find out that he is in the process of updating his biography of Lawrence. Shame it couldn't have been released this year in conjunction with the film...
Thanks for the link to that. It will indeed be interesting to see what Mr. Herzog does with the subject matter. I have not sen many of his movies but his "Little Dieter Needs to Fly" is one of my favorites.
Much as I love "Lawrence of Arabia" as an epic movie it is not as historically...
Yes, just one disc. I'm probably going to go for that one because it should be cheaper and am not that interested in the second disc on the Tadlow release. However, that is a very fine release and well worth the money for those who want the extra material.
A new release of that recording is coming out in a couple of weeks.

Well, I don't think he/she/it exists* either, but it seems to me that to suggest he/she/it had to be created is to make a senseless suggestion. Given that this putative being exists outside of space and time, why should there be a need for something to create this he/she/it?:D
*Actually, I'm...
That is assuming that there would be an audio difference with the speakers one currently has.
I see little point in getting enthused about this until some more reliable data is available that can back up Dolby's claims..
I actually think 'skepticism' is a rather mild word to use in the circumstances. And until Dolby is willing to set up some double-blind tests conducted by independent experts one is certainly entitled to that skepticism.
If you do some reading in the psychoacoustic literature you will soon...
Excellent points.
If one really wants to improve the quality of sound in their home theater they would be much better off spending their time and money finding a good pair of speakers. As I understand it, that is where the largest sound distortion can occur.
And, as you've indicated, even...
I believe you will always need a D to A conversion in order to listen to it. Speakers are analog.
In any case, unless this was a true double-blind test the results should be treated with a great deal of skepticism. And it doesn't sound like it was based on what Adam described.
I tend to give Mitchum the nod for being best but that is because I think his Farewell, My Lovely was overall the best film adapation of Chandl'er's novel. Of course, he was also in tha awful production of The Big Sleep which was set in England rather than LA. But I also agree with Douglas that...
I agree. Marlowe is a more interesting character than Spade. But then I also prefer Chandler's books to Hammett's. The more interesting question is which portrayal of Marlowe does one prefer: Bogart's in 'he Big Sleep or Powell's in Murder, My Sweet or Mitchum's in Farewell, My Lovely or Gould's...
