Take it from someone who just got a plus/2 with the new drivers... if you run out of bass with that sub you really have issues. It rattles the $hit out of my house and I'm not even at 1/2 gain on the sub yet - I'm using the 16 Hz setting too.
Ron - Everytime I listen to this sub I am more and more impressed. It's more than just tight, slamming bass... there are lots of details hidden in that bass. Kudos to you and the rest of the SVS crew for such a great sub... especially at this price-point. You are correct - I have heard...
John - I did set my mains to "small" and something was missing when I did. No fault of the SVS... but the mid-range just had a big hole in it. Also - I am currently running the digital out of my transport directly to the DAC's in the Lexicon... which means I can only run L/R speakers from...
You were right. Don't get me wrong... another +/2 couldn't hurt... in fact I am also using my old RBH sub on my left and right channels and blending them with my mains. Leaving all the LFE heavy lifting to the SVS. Multiple subs sure are fun. :)
I drug this damn thing upstairs (alone!) and git it hooked up. Did a quick re-calibration... then threw in X-men 2. Wow.... this sub simply kicks ass. I'm sure it can still be tweaked quite a bit more as I haven't touched the phase. Gain was set at maybe 1/3 crossed at 80Hz on my...
For $4k you can have one helluva nice system that doesn't have to be "ginormous". A nice reciever, a DVD source and some nice speakers - will smoke anything Bose has to offer and leave $ in your dad's pocket too.
I just bit the bullet and ordered a PB12-Plus/2. Ron was very patient answering all my questions. I cannot wait to get it and start playing with it. :) If it's not enough - I can always add an additional plus/2... somehow I don't think that it will be necessary... but you never know. ;)
Jeremy - the Oppo certainly looks interesting. It still seems a littl buggy for my tastes... but the price sure is alluring. Thanks for the link - I'll have to do some more research!
I am using my old Sony DVP-S500D and it's starting to flake out on me. So I'm looking to replace it. Here's my situation. I currently use a Marantz CD-63SE as a transport and let my Lexicon MC-1 do all the D/A which I am very happy with. I let the Lexicon process the digital out of the DVD...
Jeff - maybe we can buy 4 at the same time and get Ron to knock down the price? :) (Just kidding if you are reading Ron!) The PB 12 NSD's are another option... hell I could fit a bunch of tubes in my room too... simply too many options and not enough $!!! :)
Sorry to dredge up an old post - but I have some experience with the Ekwal center if the poster is still shopping (very doubtful! haha) I have the 5140's as mains, Ekwal for the center and Ninka's for rears all driven off a Linn 5125 amp and a Lexicon MC-1 Pre/Pro. I cannot be happier with my...
I'm fairly certain I will go with the twin plus/2's - and sell the RBH (check your for sale section :) ). I'd like to thank everyone in this thread for their help and advice - esp Ron @ SVS who emailed me all weekend! haha Jim
Hell - I'd just like to be able to go full Aktiv on my Linn AV5140's! haha My HT would also have Angelina Jolie (minus Brad), Denise Richards (minus Charlie), and Ashley Judd. ;)
Richard, My room is 15' W x 23' L x 9' H. My listening varies from background music to full out assault as my theater doubles as my office during the day. I am seriously considering keeping the RBH 1010 sub as my musical sub as I love their speed - they match the Linn's quite well - and the...
Thanks guys. I really am leaning towards a pair of plus/2's with the new drivers. I do agree with the benefits of dual subs - and am firmly planted in the real world. :) Now another question. I am looking at the standard finish on the plus/2's- and it doesn't include the PEQ... is it...
I'm not sure - I'll need to look in the owners manual. Seems like the opinions are pretty evenly split - which doesn't help! haha Keep them coming though. I guess I could just get an Ultra/2 and then start saving for another. ;) I am looking for the setup that will go the lowest and...
My budget is roughly $2k and I'm torn between either going with a single ultra/2 or maybe going with two plus/2's. Any ideas?? My subs will need to be placed in the front of the room - and I have nice corners to put them in behind my monitor/main speakers. It will be fed by a Lexicon MC-1...
If they sound good to you - just enjoy them. My room-mate way back in college bought some that sound very similar. They weren't bad - but they weren't great either. Trust your ears... forget about brands and reviews. You are the onle listening to them. A good sub would probably improve...
