    Onkyo tx-nr636

Why is bi-amping pointless? Does it not provide more power for the main channel? We're only running one big set of towers, no surrounds. Ok so the second zone can be turned off, but will it run while the fronts are hooked up in bi-amp?

Hey guys, I made a post a while back about looking for a receiver for my friend's new garage/upstairs lounge. I'm incredibly indecisive about this stuff, and have still been looking into it. Anyways, I think I found THE one. We want two sets of HDMI outputs so he can in the future add in a...

looking for a receiver for a friend, 2 hdmi video outputs

thanks for the replies guys. looking into receivers is overwhelming, there's a ton to choose from and a million features to sort out Good info anderson, i wasn't sure if these high end receivers had a straight up stereo mode. I personally hate the whole surround sound thing, much prefer to...

looking for a receiver for a friend, 2 hdmi video outputs

I'm helping a friend setup his stereo and I don't know where to start with the receiver. This is going in his newly built garage, upstairs is a lounge/hangout/pool room, and the main level is the garage/workshop. He wants to be able to output video to the TV and switch to a projector for...

needing a receiver upgrade, i'm way behind in the times

Alright! I've been running my yamaha HTR-5280 since the beginning of time. It has served me well, but I believe it may be time to upgrade. Let me start by saying i love my music, at ear bleeding volumes. I however use the same stereo to watch tv and movies, so sounding good at a reasonable...

    Crown XLS and XLI amplifiers

I'm currently shopping for a new amplifier, but am stuck between two and cannot decide which would be the better amp. My instinct tells me which would be better, but it's contradictory to some reviews i've read.Crown XLS1500 http://www.zzounds.com/item--CWNXLS1500Crown XLI1500...

Need an amp for two titanics

I've been running this set of dual titanics for about a year now, each with its own carvin dcm1000 to power it. i've had one of the amps for about 7 years now, and over the last couple years has slowly stated to stop working. its now completely dead. I had found a dcm2500 on craigslist, but...

electrical upgrades to handle another amplifier

Thanks for the replies guys. Good to know i'm not crazy in adding another circuit to power amplifiers in my silly stereo. Is a single 20 amp receptacle going to be ok handling two of these amplifiers, or should i go with two to be safe? I'm thinking it'll be fine with a single, it's not going to...

electrical upgrades to handle another amplifier

I bought my first house a year ago, and have been rocking my dual GR research 12's for quite a while, and have finally decided its time to do an upgrade. I have two rather large and powerful car audio subwoofers sitting in my bedroom that were given to me by a friend, and intend on using them in...

installers: how much would you charge for this install?

he's more of a friend of a friend, and he knows who my family is both because my brother's a pitcher on the local amateur baseball team (this is the only local sports bar), and my ol' man and mom go in for lunch probably once a week. I charged him 175 bucks for labor, thinking i wouldnt...

installers: how much would you charge for this install?

I'm currently working on doing an install of two subwoofers (non-powered) for a local sports bar. I gave him a relatively cheap quote both because I wanted to help the guy out, i'm not lookin to make a ton of money from my little on the side job/hobby, and he seemed to have a somewhat tight...

helping a friend put subs in his local sports bar

The bar area is quite crowded already. There has been one sub running previously, but it toasted, and my friend decided it was time to upgrade. On one side of the bar, there's a very shallow area where we can squeeze a box, and a 12" is the largest that will fit there. On the other end, the...

helping a friend put subs in his local sports bar

I'm helping a friend do a subwoofer setup in his sports bar. Everything is already up and running, minus the subs. the rca's are already run to the locations for the subwoofers, all I need to do is either build the sub from scratch or find him some pre-made powered subs. i'm much more of a...

    sub placement/bad enclosure?

Understandable about the flat response curve. Ironically, despite thats what you would normally want for a quality setup, i'm kind of seeking that hump at around 40-55 hz. I love my bass :) I'm not too terribly worried about how perfect it sounds, because hell, it's in a work office, and I watch...

    sub placement/bad enclosure?

Hey guys, i'm having some issues with my HT setup. I use it mainly to play music, and the occasional movie. I'm running two 12" GR Research drivers in a sealed, separated enclosure, each seeing about 1.2 cubes of air space. I'm running them on a Carvin DCM1000, giving each driver about 250...

    starting to design a home

I'm start to look at pre-designed homes to get a good starting point for the home i'm going to build. I'm definitely going to want to include a dedicated theater room. What size/shape room is best, and should it be located in a basement, main floor, or upstairs loft type setting? I've always...

    positioning tv/towers/subs

I need a little help with positioning. I'm a car audio guy, tryin to make a half assed HT setup. I'm in college, living in a rented house. I'm the "house manager" so along with it comes the largest bed room, which is supposed to be a basement living room. i've drawn a picture in paint to...

    wanting to build bookshelves/center channel

fully intend on running a subwoofer, 15" titanic and about the crossovers, the one furthest down on the page is the "final" verison, and one is needed for each enclosure? also wondering where i can get the ScanSpeak D2904/6000-01 tweeter, as well as the SEAS 27TDFC

    wanting to build bookshelves/center channel

I had a thread going a while ago about building towers, and it was suggested that I look at these- Modula MTM-1 Design To keep things simple, and have a set guide in building the setup, I think i'll go with that. Me still being a rookie with home theater, I need someone to hold my hand as I...

building towers, planned out, everything look ok?

i use my stereo mainly for playing music, as long as it played music when i have the receiver in 5 channel mode, i think that'd be my best option. as for the full range speakers, i've never been a fan of them. Thanks for the idea though

building towers, planned out, everything look ok?

its not about the tweeters this time. the speakers mentioned above use two of the 7" dayton reference woofers, and in each of my towers i have now, there's two of the same. I want to get a little more output than what i have now, so i was thinking it might not hurt to run two pairs of these...

building towers, planned out, everything look ok?

would there be anything wrong with running (4) of the Modula MTM design mentioned above? i remember in my last attempt at making towers, i was advised to not use two tweeters on the same plain. if i were to do 4 of them, as in 4 seperate enclosures, i'd most likely have a pair on right and a...

building towers, planned out, everything look ok?

i'm running a 15" titanic for a subwoofer, so i'm not looking for anything loud on the low end in whatever new speakers i go with. are there any other designs that i can look at? i dont really know where to look for that kinda thing

building towers, planned out, everything look ok?

I plan on making my own cabinents regardless of what drivers i end up going with. I spose they dont have to be towers as long as i can get the required air space in a bookshelf sized enclosure. I dont want to bother building something extravagant looking, because just like my bad habbit with car...
