I just got this receiver on boxing day and have yet to hook it up. From what I have read on this thread, this receiver won't overlay PLIIx on DTS. My question is, how do I get stereo sound out of the two back speakers on DTS tracks?
Bestbuy Canada has it for the same price as Futureshop and they seem to have them in stock online. http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...ewdeptid=20303
Oops, I didn't see that Futureshaop was sold out. Too bad the 5740 doesn't have s-video switching or else I would have picked one up when then still had them. Finals, eh? I could help you "break-them-in" until you are done with finals..:D
The use of either the coaxial or optical connection does eliminate the need for standard patch cords (red/white), that is, assuming you have a receiver that accepts digital connections.
Mike, How do you find the subwoofer's performance. I'm thinking of getting the Orbit 5.1a but I'm worried the subwoofer lacks some low-end. MarcH, I've noticed that you sell the Dalhquists and I'm sure you are quite familiar with the Orbits. That being said, is it advisable (or needed)...
Phil, So something with a higher ohm rated is not recommended? You mention that a signal will pass, isn't that enough considering a digital signal is binary and as long as the the signal is passed, then it should be fine, right? Thanks.
Is inexpensive microphone cable good enough for digital audio use? I assume it must be able to transmit at 75ohms. I've got an old microphone cable lying around with the words OFC stamped on it and I'm wondering if I could just attach some RCA connectors on it and use it for digi. audio use...
I plan to make a sub cable using pre-determined CATV cables and F-to-RCA adapters. I've got some RG59 cables lying around the house, is this enough or do I need RG6? My run will be less than 6ft. In addition, I'll need a Y-connection to my two sub inputs, could I just use an inexpensive 4"...
Thanks for the response Dave, In fact, I do have a digital set top box with s-video output, I never would have thought to check, thanks for pointing that out. My TV has only 1 s-video input, so it appears I would need to get a receiver with s-video switching.
I'm deciding as to whether I should spend the extra money on a receiver with video switching capability. My only video source will be a DVD player and my TV has s-video input and composite inputs only. I don't expect to upgrade my TV in the near future. The only advantage I see in getting a...
Not sure if this question belongs in the basics section but here goes: I don't hear much talk about the Yamaha NS10. If they are used by studios for clean neutral sound, then why aren't they the first choice for home use? Thanks. Reg
I live in an appartment where my kitchen and living area is one open area. The actual listening area takes up half the room. When I quote my room dimensions for a sub, do I quote the entire area or only the listening area? Thanks, Reggie.
Not sure if I'm asking this in the right section. What is the correct pronounciation of the word timbre? I've always assumed it sounds like timber (ie. wood), however, a audio salesman pronounced it "tahn-ber". Thanks. Reggie.
Does anyone know the price of a b-stock SVS 20-39PC+ ? They don't have any available now and prices are not listed. If the price difference is not that much compared to a new one, then I'll go ahead and order a new one this weekend, otherwise I'll wait it out. Thanks. Reggie.
Hi all, I'm a new user and this is my first post. I plan on spending no more than a grand Cdn for a receiver and 5.1 speakers. That said, I've recently ordered a Denon 1403 from eCost for just over $210 Cdn shipped. Now I'm looking for speakers. I'm considering the following setup: CSS...
