My Mom's mostly excited that they're camel colored with matching grill material! Matching her decor was the selling point. ;) I never thought I'd be building my 70 something parents GR speakers and a 12" sub. They're hooked though.
for my parents. I must say, the sound quality is impressive. Compared to my Adire 281's, they have a cleaner, more accurate sound. Of course, the tweeter is significantly more expensive. The bass is quite nice as well. I was surprised at the amount of bass, though they can't compete with the...
Some say using a Y cable will help the auto-on circuit of the amp pickup the signal at lower volumes. Otherwise, it doesn't matter. Your're sending a LFE signal which is mono.
I have found that being vastly uninformed on a subject rarely stops a person from spewing forth their opinion. Don't know what you're talking about? No matter, open that yap and start yelping! :)
Great job Eric! They look great. How does the sound compare to the Adire 81's that you sold me? Not apples to apples I know. I'm sure that these have much more bottom end being ported, but I'd like your opinion on the differences.
I'm building a sealed cube with a Dayton DVC 12" driver from www.partsexpress.com and a Rythmik 250 watt amp from www.rythmikaudio.com. The driver can be had for about $110 U.S. and is an excellent driver. Basically identical to an Adire Shiva, but can be used in a smaller enclosure. The amp is...
I bought a PB12Plus/2 last year without ever hearing an SVS, and am very satisfied. I took a chance that the large number of testamonials on these forums were accurate, and they were. Also, any sub that is not equalized for flat response will not give you everything it's capable of, no...
Heather, Go to Ebay and do a search for 250W sub plate amp. The guy at Rythmik (can't remember his name) will take care of you. They're popular amps around here.
I hope that's Canadian money... Yeah, I assume those are "artificially inflated" MSRP's. Either that, or the Chileans workers are making mucho deniro!;)
If you're willing to spend $536 on the Titanic kit, I'd buy an SVS PB12-ISD for $60 more. You'll get significantly more sub-25hz output, and no assembly is required. DIY subs are only reasonably cost effective if you are willing to build the cabinet. Otherwise, online companies like SVS and HSU...
Take a look at the Dayton DVC drivers. They're VERY similar to the Shiva and Tempest, (made by the same company I think?) but require smaller enclosures. Do a search on this site for "DVC" and "Shiva" in titles only.
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050422/ap_on_hi_te/hypersonic_sound Speakers so small there aren't any! Just what Bose lovers are looking for.
That room is slightly smaller than average I would say, and the PB12-ISD would fill it very nicely. You might be able to get away with a PB-10 depending on how much SPL you need. I would get the PB12 and not worry about it.
When I got my veneer from Tape-Ease, their instructions said NOT to use a roller. I did anyway, I got bubbles though :-7 From their website: Veneering Tips Using Contact Cement: Cut with straight edge and utility knife or scissors Prepare to glue your veneer with contact cement. Make...
Unfortunately, the a/v-2s are too deep to fit on their shelf. Otherwise, I would have gone that route. Yeah, I've been starting to lean towards the a/v-1's.
I can't decide which of the two following speakers will be better to build for my parents. They will primarily be used for classical music. The GR A/V-1 ported or A/V-3S sealed. The 1 has one woofer but digs deeper. The 3S has 2 woofers but rolls off sooner. Both would be blended with a sub and...
Well, they don't see the need for a sub, so I may be funding it myself. I've got a Tempest and a 250w plate amp laying around, but that's overkill for them. They're in their late 60's-early 70's, and won't be rocking the house. I just want to fill in the bottom end for them. I'm getting them...
I'm building a set of GR Research A/V speakers for my parents, who will only be listening to classical and mellow music at normal levels. I need a good and cheap (oxymoron) sub to match up with them. Is this a job for the Dayton 10" powered sub, or is there another "value" sub out there that...
