    Upscaling/HDef DVD Player merged thread

I just got the LG LDA-511 to do Upconversion over component. Unfortunately I MUST HAVE 3:2 pulldown or I get severe scanlines on my TV so I have to take it back (it doesn't have that feature). I noticed a bigger difference in sound more than video, to be honest. My $50 samsung DVD player has 3:2...

    Where are the Anchorman reviews?

Does anyone else hear some voice distortion in Anchorman right before Burgandy jumps off the diving board saying "CANNON BALL!" - it's the first part of the second chapter of the movie. When he says "and i need EVERYBODY, to LISTEN" I hear a little voice distortion and it's driving me crazy...

    Voice distortion...what gives?

The noise is coming from the front speakers, FR, FL, and Center. I just did a little bit of testing...and the pops/distortion i'm hearing happen at the same exact moment in the film regardless of volume...I mean, I turned it way down and put my ear to the speaker and played the same scene...

    Voice distortion...what gives?

On the settings on the receiver I only see one crossover setting - how do I set the subwoofers crossover? There is just a level adjuster on the back...perhaps if I turn that down a bit? It's about halfway up right now, maybe slightly higher. All my speakers are set to "Small" and the...

    Voice distortion...what gives?

Compression anomalies? Where do I read up on that, I don't really know what that is.

    Voice distortion...what gives?

Are there any settings that you know of I can quickly change that would perhaps make it a little bit better? I'm novice at this, so thanks for your patience. Only gets better with time, right?

    Voice distortion...what gives?

It seems to just be the front speakers that distort, and it's not at a really high volume - nothing ear piercing. I thought maybe it was just the recording on the TV DVD's, because the really good movies, like LOTR and such, dont' ever do it, they're crystal clear. What about the cables...

    Voice distortion...what gives?

Everynow and then I have some voice distortion on my speakers. I'm using an Onkyo system (receiver/speakers, etc....all Onkyo). They are virtually brand new so I have a hard time thinking it's them, but I'm open to suggestions. It tends to happen more when I'm watching Sopranos or other TV DVD's...

    Progressive Scan Problems

Well my original DVD player, some cheapo thing from Best Buy that came with cheapo surround sound (back when I had a POS TV and didn't really care much - it was $80 for the entire setup 5.1 sound and dvd player) has progressive scan and I didn't know that. It doesn't say it anywhere on the box...

    Progressive Scan Problems

3:2 pulldown - I was reading something about that yesterday - that's something that the TV should have or the DVD player? Are there external processors that can do this type of thing if need be? Do you think that this feature not being available is whats causing this? In the owners manual...

    Progressive Scan Problems

When hooked up to the regular component inputs i have it turned off, otherwise it just doesn't display. Just a note: I was reading about the Chroma Bug - the description of what's happening sounds similar to what I'm seeing - however the lines go across the entire screen. For instance -...

    Progressive Scan Problems

Well I have the DVD player hooked up to the component inputs now (which I am under the impression is a step up from S-Video) and I don't get any problems on screen. It's only when in progressive scan mode hooked up to the HD Component inputs. The guy at Magnolia Hi-Fi told me that it's...

    Progressive Scan Problems

Shouldn't progressive scan show less of the scan lines than when in regular mode? When I have the DVD player plugged into just a composite video input (is that correct?) and i have progressive scan turned off, it plays fine with no flaws - other than the fact it's about half the quality as when...

    Progressive Scan Problems

A couple days ago I picked up a 51" Magnavox Widescreen HDTV. I also have a Toshiba progressive scan DVD player. I was able to get it hooked up through the HD AV-4 inputs, but I'm having some issues... When I'm playing Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers - the screen is gorgeous - exactly as I...
