    7.1, speakers, couches and walls.

I should have mentioned I am pretty deaf. My hearing is shot from years of playing guitar and shooting firearms unprotected. So close is always close enough for me. I wouldn’t recognize high-fidelity if it ran me over with a freight train.

Thanks for all the input. The receiver I am getting is inexpensive so an upgrade later won't be too heartbreaking. It is 6.1, not 7.1. I'll stick to a 5.1 speaker setup for now and spend my resources on better speakers. The room is so small moving the couch out from the wall just isn't practical.

    7.1, speakers, couches and walls.

I found a 6.1 receiver that I am really interested in, so I think I am going to use the one rear Athena to start. Later I might add a second one, wire them in series, and spread them out a bit on the back wall.

    7.1, speakers, couches and walls.

Ah well, never mind. I think I found a solution. I'll split the difference and go 6.1. I found an Athena that I can wall mount behind the couch. It will be high up the wall because of a window, but I can angle it down. Better than nothing.

    7.1, speakers, couches and walls.

I know this is a basic question, but I have searched and read all the threads on speaker placement as well as all the references I could find via Google and I am not satisfied with the answers I found. I am close to buying a new receiver. It will be a long time before I have a true high...

Movie Ticket not included in my Predator: CE

Considering AVP is hovering between Bio-Dome and Catwoman on the Tomatometer not getting a ticket probably counts as a blessing.

which to buy... sony, yamaha or onkyo

I bought the $200 Sony system. While it is certainly better than stereo speakers, I have already started to upgrade (a new center and fronts). By the end of the year or sooner the whole thing will be gone; replaced by better alternatives. Kind of a waste of money, but at least I had a starting...

    Subwoofer basics.

I wondered about that. I did find a powered sub that has both line-level and speaker-level inputs. I still plan on stair stepping my next system; buying one thing at a time. I may start with a better center channel, then fronts, surrounds, so on. I could hold off on the powered sub until I...

    Subwoofer basics.

Yikes. I'll look into it further. Till then I'll leave it at 0db. I assume I can replace it with a powered sub some day? I may buy my next system a component at a time.

    Subwoofer basics.

Asking this question here is like asking a neurosurgeon for help with a head cold. But I’m here; you’re here, what the heck. I just got a very basic, very simple HT setup. Your basic $200 entry level deal. Simple, but I can’t begin to tell you how much better it is than stereo speakers. Scared...

    Movies that SHOULD be re-made

I’d like to see a remake of Predator. I watched this the other day and had forgotten how stupid it really is. All those muscle bound idiots running around the jungle smoking cigars, shooting from the hip, and never taking their fingers off the trigger. It would be better with at least some...

How do you count your DVD's?

I count box sets as one, no matter how many movies it is. If someone askes how many I just say lots. I have slowed down my buying habits because I get the feeling the next big thing (whatever that might be) will replace them anyway.
