All, I am looking to purchase a flat panel television. Probably 40"-46" range, I am leaning towards LCD right now. Specifically, I like the Sharp AQUOS line, any thoughts, experiences, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Are there other manufacturers that I should be looking at, if...

    Help Choosing Sub!!

Thank you Shannon W! Budget is not so much an issue as size and quality. I want a sub that will sound great but not take up a good chunk of my room. The PB-12 will undoubtedly sound better all around but it is quite large at 25" x 18" footprint. I have been focusing on SVS but are there...

    Help Choosing Sub!!

Thanks for the reply! I realize that size does matter but I am wondering if the SB-12 is enough, I believe that the PB-12 will be louder, tighter, etc. but it is a trade off between size and output.... Any other opinions????

    Help Choosing Sub!!

All, I am in the market for a new sub and have been looking at SVS as they come very highly recommended!! Basically my room is 12w x 14d x 8h and is open to the next room through a large doorway. I am looking for a smaller sub and was considering the SVS SB-12 Plus, however, I am concerned...

    Totem Loudspeakers

It appears that a thread never dies on this forum! I am happy to hear it. I have yet to pull the trigger on any speakers...I am keeping my options open and to tell the truth haven't had too much time to audition. I do not want to jump and get the first speakers that I like. I must say though...

    Totem Loudspeakers

Dan: I have never listened to the Arro however I have had the opportunity to hear the Hawk model and quite liked what I heard. Have you listened to either the Forest or the Hawk from Totem, if so did you find that they shared the same lack of bass. I do realize that the form factor of Totem...

    Totem Loudspeakers

Thank you for the input!! I was thinking that the Rainmaker center and mains would not provide enough bass due to their small size. I was considering the addition of an SVS sub to accompany them. I have read many many reviews raving about these.... Any thoughts about the floorstading...

    Alpine CDA-9835 questions

I have been looking for a head unit and really like the CDA-9835 but I am looking for some opinions on it before I buy. Anything bad about it that I should know, complaints from owners? Is the display worth the money over the lower model? Also I have read that because of the amp in it you...

Help...me decide on a new system

It seems like speakers are the way to go according to your opinions. Should I look at changing all 4 or just the front 2?? I have read on this forum that the front speakers are the most important so could I just change out the front speakers and then get a new head unit? How much should I...

Help...me decide on a new system

Thanks for the suggestions but should I just upgrade speakers or both the speakers and the head unit. What would make the most sense / difference in sound quality? Any suggestions as to brands for speakers and head units are appreciated!!

Help...me decide on a new system

I have a 2005 Honda civic and want to upgrade the audio system a bit. I don't need or want something that can be heard from blocks away, just something cleaner sounding than the factory system. Will a HU be the best place to start or speakers? Can I add component front speakers eventhough I...

    If You Had Two Amps...

The Iron ring is a nice and all but it is the person wearing it that can be the problem. There are a lot of bonehead engineers out there (eg. IKEA furniture designers).:)

    Set of Paradigm questions

I don't mean to hijack this thread william! Just a quick question along the same lines. I have a Yamaha RXV-530 and was considering the Paradigm Studio 40's. My receiver is rated at 75w...would this not be enough power for the 40's?? Thanks for the help, Chris

Brian, Yes I have heard this from others as well but thanks for the heads-up anyways!! I will have to work on my negotiating skills I guess. Anyone here negotiate a really really good deal? One so good that you even amazed yourself?

Thanks for all of the input everyone...I will try to put it to good use! Kevin, I am familiar with EHR, that is where I bought my receiver from about 2yrs ago..friendly and helpful staff. I think they just had their yearly speaker sale too...to bad I missed it. Shiu, it looks like you are...

    Q: Bookshelf or Floorstanding Speakers??

Thanks Andrew for your help...I will keep all of it in mind when I go auditioning! You assume correct that I will also look for a sub to complement the rest of the system. I have been inpressed with all of the good reviews SVS is getting but buying without having a listen is a big step!!

    Tales of a new bass-a-holic

Congrats Mike! I am glad to hear that your new toy is exceeding your expectations!! From what I hear that happens a lot with SVS subs. Q: Bookshelf or Floorstanding Speakers??

Kevin, I was actually looking at several paradigm models including the studio series as well as some klipsch models. I personally preferred the paradigm's sound. Are there any other brands that I should put on the audition list??

That sub really is huge!! Tough sell getting the girlfriend to agree to something like that in the livingroom! Good thing I like a challenge

    Q: Bookshelf or Floorstanding Speakers??

Brian, You mentioned not finding a speaker capable of "blending" with your sub. I have heard of speakers matching (ie. center and L/R) but never a sub...this is probably because I am new but can you clarify what you mean by the blending of a sub into your system. Sorry if this is a dumb question!!

    Tales of a new bass-a-holic

Thanks for the great response Mike!! I will definitely put SVS on the shortlist!! Who doesn't like to feel like you are being shaken and punched by the bass! The room I have now is small so I am considering a PB1...but the appeal of a PB2 is there, so much more power. I will after all...
