I've had the best luck with Prodiscs too, and bad luck with Optodiscs, too many with bad spots. Panasonic E20, E50, JVC DR-M10 they work the same in all of them.
In the three years I've been using DVD recorders I've used 4 different Panasonics E10, E20, E50, E55, a Pioneer, don't remember model number and the JVC DR-M10 and I can tell anybody without any doubt that the JVC is by far the superior machine. The biggest difference in the panasonics is the...
Not everyone needs a hard drive, I have no need or use for one so why pay extra for something I don't need. Check out the picture difference between any Panasonic and the JVC. There is only one JVC without VHS.
To anyone thinking of buying a Panasonic DVD recorder take a look at the JVC and think again. I have been using both for awhile now and can tell you that the JVC is a far superior machine for only a slightly higher price. The advantages are almost too long to list here but first and most...
From what I've read Toshiba has some serious problems with their spindle motors, the older Panasonics did too but they have supposedly gone to an improved motor recently. I've found Panasonic's reliability to be better than Toshiba's myself.
Thanks for the Mat Electronics, I'm always looking for new places to get parts. I was able to fix the motor with the help of another websight full of people with the same problem who had a fix which worked great and saved me a bunch of money too.
The motor part number is RXQ0745B, that is supposed to be the improved motor. If you have any experience working on electronics you should be able to replace it yourself, be sure to mark the height of the spindle before removing, if you haven't worked on electronics before I wouldn't suggest...
Don't know about Denon but that code on a Panasonic means a bad spindle motor. Open the unit and see if the disc spins, if not give it a little spin by hand, if it starts spinning it is the motor.
It definitly is, on something under 2 hours it is not noticable but try something 3 or so hours, I can see right where it switches from SP to LP. I've quit putting anything over 2 hours on 1 disc because the last part, the part it records in LP, looks so lousy. I put the end on another disc for...
I just tried a DVD-R recording made on my E-20, played it in the A120 and it copied fine on the E-10 to a RAM, it's not DVD-R capable so I couldn't try that, but I don't know why you say they won't copy DVD-R discs.
Jeffrey Taylor's flexible recording on the Panasonic is not how the machine works, it picks the best speed it can for as long as it can then switches speeds when it has to, so on a 90 minute movie it will record in XP for as long as it can then it will switch to SP when it has to, it doesn't...
Beware of Panasonic and their spindle motors, many problems, supposedly they have improved them lately, don't know if that's true or not. The newer Toshibas seem to be plagued by the same problems too.
I have 2 Panasonics and they copy fine from RAMs to an R, but I haven't tried copying from an R to an R. Copying a disc recording from a VCR doesn't come out as good as copying straight from the VCR.
I don't know if you can get 3 1/2 year old reliability out of a newer machine, newer equipment just isn't built as good as older stuff, that's a fact that we just have to live with. If you want reliability try to find a player with a direct drive spindle motor, if you still can, since the...
Macrovision is only used on pre-recorded discs and tapes, so you won't have any problem copying from Tivo. The newer Panasonic DVD recorders aren't very good machines, the JVC is a better machine with only a slightly higher price, the picture is better on the JVC too, look around and you can get...
