Quick noob question: computer vs DVD as a source

Thanks. How about the quality of the hardware? My guess would be that even inexpensive DVD player will have an edge over laptop video card, but I am not sure how noticable it might be. Also, thus far I could only get the DVDs to play at 800X600. When I set laptop to XGA, I can see image on...

Quick noob question: computer vs DVD as a source

Hi, I am using InFocus LP600 projector currently hooked up through it M1-DA input to my laptop to play DVDs. Would there be a significant improvement in PQ if I used a dedicated DVD player hooked through DVI-M1 cable?

    HDMI picture issues

I have exact same issues. When I connect HD cable directly to TV set through DVI-HDMI, picture keeps fslahing on and off. Component connection, though, is just fine. Any easy solution?

    Noob HD question

Hi, Another question just came up. The cable guy came by to install HD cable box and, as often happens with Comcast, he was not aware that HD cable box had DVI, instead of HDMI, connector. Hence, he connected it to the TV using component cable. He claimed that there is no real difference...

    Noob HD question

I have recently got a new TV, a Samsung CRT 27 inch HDTV (2782H). I currently have Denon DVD-2900, but reading different posts it sounds like I could take advantage of the HD capabilities of the TV set even when watching regular DVDs by getting up-converting SD DVD player. So, I am considering...

    Help Extending Speaker Wires

Could you use something like this: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/american...re/ap-316.html Also, you do not need to solder 2 runs, you can just use insulated butt splices.

    Denon 2200 Q

I am not sure about 2200, but I have DVD-2900 and under audio settings it has basss enhancer. From the manual it sounds like it would send the signal to the sub through the multichannel outputs when it is playing 2 ch audio and bass enhancer is turned on.

Heartland Belden 89259 w/ bullet plugs good choice for all rca's in my system?

What about RS Cable Solid Silver interconnects from rscable.com? They cost somewhat more than Hearland ICs, but still pretty reasonable. Those also seem to get great reviews from various sources. They can be purchased with locking RCAs or bullet plugs.

Heartland Belden 89259 w/ bullet plugs good choice for all rca's in my system?

Check our audioasylum. These cable seems to get really great reviews and the same goes for bullet plugs. I am considerign getting the pair of these myself and all the research suggests that they are the best bang for the buck. Bluejeanscables seem to be a great deal as well, but probably just a...

How to hook up surround speakers

Hi, I just received the new Monitor Audio SFX surround speakers and I am trying to figure out how to connect them. They have 5 way posts on the back (4 posts on each speaker), which are connected in pairs for bi- or di-polar configuration. The binding posts are thick, so small spades do not...

    Onkyo DV-CP802

Hi Rob, Thank you for the reply. I do not have HDTV setup, so I don't think I need a very "high end" video performance, it just has to be decent. From what I understand good DVD-only players with all the latest "goods" are also rather inexpensive these days, so if I decide to go HDTV, it would...

    Onkyo DV-CP802

Hi, Does anyone have this unit? Specifically, how does it compare to Denon DVD-2200, which is the only other universal DVD in the same price range? I could not find any data on the specifics of this unit, but I found this: http://www.electronichouse.com/default.asp?NodeId=2125 Its about...

Please help me choose CD/SACD player

Paul, Thanks for the reply. The major problem for me is that my receiver has only one set of 5.1 inputs, so I definitely would like to have one universal for DVD-Audio, DVD and SACD and a dedicated CD. If the CD player has SACD and video, it would be a bonus, if I decide to move it to another...

Please help me choose CD/SACD player

Hi, After getting a number of good recommendations, I figured that my set up is wrong. So I sold my Kenwood DVD. I still have Philips 963SA, but I can return it during next week if I decide to go different route. So, I am either looking for universal DVD player plus standalone CD unit with a...

Question for owners of 963sa; how to set up sub for SACD

Hi Ross, Thank you for the reply. I read somewhere that 963sa specifically have improved bass management over 962 (maybe that's wrong impression). I kind of figured how to turn redirection off completely or set everything to small and get sub output, but 963sa is supposed to be able to do much...

Question for owners of 963sa; how to set up sub for SACD

Ok, let me ask it another way. Does 963sa SACD bass managment allow to set front speakers to large with the rest to small and sub to on? So the bass from the center and surrounds will be re-directed to the sub along with LFE. Couple of Sony models, I have previously audittioned, had this...

Question for owners of 963sa; how to set up sub for SACD

Hi, I've decided to give Philips 963sa a try given its great price at B&H Photo (239-). I've just got it in and I basically cannot seem to be able to set up the sub properly for SACD playback. Every time I set my main speakers to large, it automatically switches sub off in Advanced Bass...

    What universal remote to get

Hi, Can someone recommend an inexpensive (maybe 40-50$) universal learning remote for 7-8 devices. I've had Radio Shack one, but it died and it did not interact all that well with my receiver (could not switch a source using it for example). Any budget universla remotes with good receiver...

Please help me choose CD/SACD player

Thanks for the replies! I've read couple of posts that the new 2000ES version will probably have the same chips/audio boards as SCD-CE595. Please help me choose CD/SACD player

I am looking for a budget CD/SACD player. MY priorities are redbook CDs and then SACD (I only have one disk right now). AC cord question

I just found this power cord lying around. It looks thick and solid and reads: 18-3 Typr SJT E-3462-C LL-30830 Shielded GH. I was wondering if it could be a worthy upgrade for the stock power cord for my Marantz SR8300?

Does anyone know the putative release date for SONY SCD-CE595?

Chuck_W, It sounds fine, but not being a true audiophile, I really cannot an accurate assessment. I was waiting for somebody more qualified to make the first judgement. It only come with one very basic RCA cable, no other cables at all. Basically, I think its transport mechanism is pretty nice...
