    Interesting sub calibration I did

Hey Guys, I have a really great update. Since the last time I posted I was in contact with a tech at SVS and he has been a tremendous in helping me with this. He had me doing frequency sweeps the hard way to check different positions of the sub. I even did frequency charts for the 5 speakers...

***Official 7th Annual HTF October Scary Movie Challenge***

Friday the 13th Part 2 - I saw this back in January on Friday the 13th and it was good. So I decided to watch it on Friday. I think it was because I wasn't in the mood that this showing was not good. I remember watching it on USA as a kid and it scared the crap out of me, but not tonight...

John, R. Lee was really good in this. I thought he was the strongest actor in the film. I don't know why but I was on the fence on who to cheer for the whole movie. Maybe when it comes out on DVD i can watch it late at night and will scare the crap out of me.

I got 2 more down this weekend. Ghost Story - This movie was pretty good. It did have some creepiness and some effective scares. The acting I thought was good. Plus it did have Craig Wasson who played Dr. Neil Gordon form A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors which was a nice added...

10/3/06 Return To Horror High - I saw this movie when I was younger and thought it was scary. Watching it as an adult sure was an eye opening experience. It is about a movie where these horrible killings took place in a school and the killer escaped. There is a film production in the school...

Raiders of the Lost Ark 25th Anniversary

I was a few weeks over 2 years old so I could not have seen it in the theater. I think I saw it a year or two after it was released on VHS. I can't remember if I fully saw it the first time or it was bits and pieces over the years. I did watch it fully over 2 years ago and remembered it's...

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Ok I might have done one of the most unusual things to get my frequency responce flat. Jim form SVS told me to set the crossover to 100 Hz. My receiver did not have that. So I went on www.denon.com to check there lower end home theater receivers. I found the AVR-1506 which was selling for 329...

    Interesting sub calibration I did

I checked for the room response and I have a bad peak at 90Hz. It starts going up in the 70Hz range. I know it is not the sub, but the 3 main speakers. Is there any way to tame the upper bass frequencies?

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Brian, I did put the sub in the corner last night but did not get the chance to plug it in and calibrate it. When you say 2-4 feet out from the corner along the wall do you mean to have the sub against the longer of the two walls? I am still going to do a frequency sweep hopefully this...

    Interesting sub calibration I did

I did play with the sub a little bit tonight. I notice that it was about 1-2 dB higher while standing up. I do not have it in a corner and was wondering if that will help it or not. The SVS manual says go for a corner. I have been wanting to take my dvd shelf out of the corner and switch it with...

My favorite theater is getting better

Well the screen opened on Friday night with the movie Inside Man. I sat a few rows from the back in the middle of the screen. The screen is 80 feet wide by 35 feet tall and holds about 600 people.. They call it the Muller Monster Screen. Some of the problems I noticed where that the picture was...

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Brian, Yes -10 on my receiver gives me 75dB for "reference level". I am going to have to double check to see the dB reading with avia hopefully this weekend. I also want to check if the sub gets louder if i move the spl meter to the left and right. When I was watching TV the other weekend, I...

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Brian, I used the receiver's test tones to calibrate to 75. Vaughan, I have not read that yet. Maybe this weekend I will get to it.

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Yes I did calibrate it to 75 dB. My main volume is at -10 where the left channel says 75 at 0 and then I calibrated the rest of the speakers to read 75 except the sub which is at 72 because of the in accuracy of the meter. To check the frequency response, Jim from SVS said to have the overall...

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Brian, I know the sub level was a little higher using avia tone compaired to the receiver tone. I did a waterfall chart using the avia disk wit the left channel and there was not consistency with the frequency on that channel. I haven't checked the receiver test tone yet but will do that...

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Dave, When I did the avia sub calibration I set it at 82 and it still sounded bloated. With the internal test tones that did not happen.

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Hey Guys, I guess I prefer how the sub sounds when calibrated using the internal test tones. I was watching a clip from T3 & the Incredibles. I like how I could feel the upper bass more than it was before. I could feel the upper bass of the guns at the beginning of the Incredibles & I could...

    Interesting sub calibration I did

Vaughan, Calibrating the sub's spl with AVIA made the lower frequencies higher then the higher frequencies even when I had it set at 82 dB. I then re-calibrated using the internal test tones and that made the bass sound a lot better. I have been emailing Jim from SVS because i was getting...

    Interesting sub calibration I did

This past weekend I got to play with my system a little bit. I had all of the speakers calibrated to the AVIA DVD and wanted to see if there was any difference with the internal receiver test tones. With the receiver at 00, the left, center, and right channels were great. The rear channels were...

    More re-makes in the works

I can't believe they are remaking Revenge of the Nerds. I watched that when I was 5 or 6 in 1985 when I first saw it and I still love it. It will be interesting to see how they remake Black Christmas and Pet Sematary.

My favorite theater is getting better

Tony I am sorry to hear your favorite theater is not as good as it used to be. I hope that they get there act together and make the theater profitable. Well I got some more information on Friday. The screen size is 35 feet by 80 feet with over 500 seats. I did not ask about the sound system...

Movie deaths that stayed with you...

I do agree that Simba finding his father dead got me chocked up while watching it. Mickey's death in Rocky 3 was bad. Apollo Creed'd death in Rocky 4 is so bad for me that I still have trouble watching it to this day. Gage's death in Pet Sematary still gets me.[/spoiler]

Thank you SVS for ruining my life.

I love my SVS 20-39 PCi. I have it in a corner in a 12x8x8 room and run it 4dB hot for movies and t.v. per Tom V's suggestion. Man that sub really shakes the room. I am now gonna have to play an awesome bass passage just so I can fine all of the little rattles in the room and tame them down. I...

Should I get an amp? If yes which one?

Arthur, Thanks for letting me know that the Denon is enough power for the Klipsch's in my room. I thought that they may need a little more power but wasn't shure. I don't know if the speakers are bright or just detailed in sound, but watching movies last night they sounded good. I might buy a...

Should I get an amp? If yes which one?

Well I have been reading allot lately that separates sound better and I am interested in getting an amp for my Klipsch KLF-20's, RC-7, and RS-7. My room is 12x8x8, with a Denon 2801 90 watt per channel receiver. Is that enough power for the Klipsch's? I have been looking at the B&K 125.5 & 200.5...
