Buying from Canada or USA? Border Issues for the PTAE700U

I think the big US-based companies that sell internationally are in denial about the value of the US dollar. Everywhere I go, the price of something in Canadian dollars is still 1.5 x the US price, when it should be 1.3. I think on their end, they are setting the price here as much as they can...

Buying from Canada or USA? Border Issues for the PTAE700U

Wow, Thanks for the advice. My stealth bomber is on cinderblocks for the winter and is a bit of a gas guzzler. ;) We'll see what things are like come July when I;ll be in the buying spirit. Cheers, Graham

Buying from Canada or USA? Border Issues for the PTAE700U

Hi everyone, I hope to purchase a Panasonic AE700 this July ('05), when I move. However, unlike the PTAE500, this projector has a large price difference in Canadian and US dollars. I have been quoted both approx $2,200 USD and $3,500 CAD. Considering the exchange rate (say, 1.21), the...

New house: $900 audio prewire - worth it?

The benefits of being able to roll the cost into your morgage, and having everything "a go" when you move in is a benefit. You must be thinking of that... I was. And for that, I would be willing to pay a few $ more. However, $900 (US$??) is not a few. As everyone said, that's car-razy.

    Theaterish carpet ?

It doesn't matter what carpet you buy - You can get the true theatre effect by soaking it in coke and fake butter!

Ceiling mounting, Panasonic L500, & an angry girlfriend

I'm installing it at *our* (future) place - so she pretty much is my WAF. ;) As far as bartering vs. a CRT, I'm getting the HT as "my thing" to offset "her thing" - granite countertops... Believe me, hers will cost more. And I still need to get a ring! Chris - on the 500's manual it shows...

Ceiling mounting, Panasonic L500, & an angry girlfriend

Hi fellas I'm considering buying the panasonic PT-AE500U / PT-L500 and mounting it to the ceiling. I'm looking at a 5 ft high screen starting 3 1/2 ft from the ground to a total height of 8 1/2 ft. Since the top of the PJ'ed image will be approx 4 inches *above* the center of the...

Installing projector cables in walls - cost? DIY? Toronto?

Thanks Steve, Apparently the builders have their guy - I can go with him at their price or do it after the walls go up. I'm waiting on their quote now. In the end, it looks like the time/money saved in concurrent installation will be offset by a markup... If the price is wrong, I'll be...

Installing projector cables in walls - cost? DIY? Toronto?

Not yet - I have a few names though. I'm attempting to line something up with the builders. Whoever we get would come in with them* when the walls go up. The building is an old warehouse conversion - right now they're still gutting and renovating the structural walls, pouring the floors, and...

Installing projector cables in walls - cost? DIY? Toronto?

My budget is "low"... I originally was budgeting for a projector, screen, and some cables, and maybe a switch box of sorts but am now going for the whole av receiver, speakers, etc etc etc and the money has to come from somewhere. I'll cehck out onkyo and denon. I think denon might be too...

Installing projector cables in walls - cost? DIY? Toronto?

Thanks Owen, I have also been looking at receivers and it seems there are a few that output the component cables AND aren't too expensive for my budget. I'll check out Trutone and Kromer as well - I think by the time I move in, I'll be a pro. Graham

Installing projector cables in walls - cost? DIY? Toronto?

Hey Neil! I found the thread "Wiring, conduit, power, wall plate questions" - then realized it must be the post you made when you were in the same position as me - on paper, running theoretical cables...

    fishing speaker wire questions

Derek, I had the same question and haven't yet gone through the wiring process. Lucky for me, the walls aren't up yet so I can put them in before drywalling. However, I still wondered how to get the mass of cables around the room (cheaply) to speakers etc without the usual mess. So on that...

Installing projector cables in walls - cost? DIY? Toronto?

Thanks James, I think that price puts DVi in perspective. The price I saw earlier was a bit rediculous. I'll be sure to have more photos and news as I proceed - right now I'm looking to get the cables installed and have to go through the developers. Now that I have the first letter...

Installing projector cables in walls - cost? DIY? Toronto?

Here's some more information. THEATRE LAYOUT: I figure the couches will place the viewers 10' from the south wall where the screen would be, and the projector around 12'-14' from the south wall. I have some time on actual projector selection. The location of the projector may be a few feet...

Hi All! I plan to install a projector in my new place which is under construction. So this is my first of many posts! My plan is to run cable across the ceiling from the projector, down thru a drywall wall, along this wall, around a corner, through some more drywall, where it will...
