I ordered my copy from Amazon via 1-day shipping... shipped out Monday, arrived on Tuesday. I've started to make all my DVD purchases online, because I don't have to hunt around various retailer's stores to find 'em, and it saves some gas money :)

Actually, I'm quite a big fan of the 50's shorts myself, especially ones by McKimson, which puts me very much in the minority. Too bad some more of McKimson's Daffy & Porky cartoons from the 50's won't be on this set ("Design for Leaving" and "Muscle Tussle" come to mind).

Although the disc themes sound odd, I'll have to wait until the complete list of the cartoons included is released before I can form any kind of opinion. But a disc full of nothing but Tashlin cartoons? Sold!

Thanks for the response, and thats good to hear. I know I'm missing out on some great stuff, like the walkover to the XM studios, for one thing. I just installed a new head unit in my car that is XM ready, so all I have to do is buy the tuner and digital adapter, and I'm all set. :)

Disney is one of the worst culprits for placing ads on their releases. They waste valuable disc space with that crap. And then there's that absolutely obnoxious anti-pirate ad that keeps appearing on new FOX releases... at least you can skip it.

Great review guys! I've never had the opportunity to view any Chan films, so this set is going to be a real treat. Many kudos to FOX for having the guts to release these classic films, with decent extras to boot.

I have a feeling that Warners is going to hold off until Vol. 3 before doing any type of remaster on The Big Sleep. While I agree that it is a fine DVD presentation, there needs to be more special features, like a commentary, documentary, etc. And a remaster by Lowry Digital like Casablanca got...

I heard news that there was going to be a 4-Disc SE later this year (I think it was from thedigitalbits.com), which is what I'm holding out for. That was a few months ago, and I've yet to hear any new updates...

I'm sure that they'll be releasing these shorts chronologically, because it wouldn't make sense to release them any other way; for example, themed discs (like on the Looney Tunes Golden Collections) wouldn't work. Otherwise, I can't wait to see this set... sounds like it will be amazing.

In addition to Robert Benchley shorts, I'd love to see a box set of Pete Smith Specialties. The few that I've seen on TCM and on DVD are very funny and well made.

Yes, the new 2-Disc set has a brand-new anamorphic transfer with the original subtitles intact. Worth double dipping for that alone, not to mention the great new special features.

More Frank Tashlin! Finally, after I thought FOX would abandon this release. The box artwork looks great (esp. with the vintage 20th Century Fox logo). Hopefully they'll be fully restored with decent extras.

Volume 5 is supposedly the rarest one. I have volumes 1-3. I paid about $150 for vol. 3, but the other two I got for around $50. Hopefully when more of the LTGC DVDs come out, the prices will drop more so I can pick up the last 2 volumes.

I also checked my box set and found no problems. I purchased Volume 2 about 3 years ago on EBay. However, I do see the same "splice" in that particular cartoon as David pointed out.
