Looney Toones GC4 - some mixed comments...

There are no 7-Arts redrawns on this set. You might be confusing those with the ones Warner Brothers did in the early 90's using computers. For some odd reason, the packaging does indeed include snapshots from black and white cartoons that are colorized, but none of the black and white cartoons...

    Martin & Lewis: Volume I June 13

I'm more looking forward to Volume 2, which, according to the NYT review of volume one, (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/31/mo...cbaea3&ei=5070) will focus on Martin and Lewis' Technicolor films with Frank Tashlin.

Opie & Anthony on Letterman 8/31

As am I. David Hinckley had an interesting article about their appearance in today's Daily News (http://www.nydailynews.com/entertain...p-377274c.html), and he made the point that it's their chance to prove themselves to an audience that doesn't know who they are. I'm sure the boys will do a...

My Rant: XM Radio's greatly diminished sound quality. What to do?

Well, just a follow-up... I got my XM equipment installed in my car last Tuesday, and I have to agree on the sound quality concerns. It's not of unlistenable quality, but there is a lot of digital flutter and compression on basically all of the music channels. Most of my listening will be to...

    double indemnity

I ordered my copy from Amazon via 1-day shipping... shipped out Monday, arrived on Tuesday. I've started to make all my DVD purchases online, because I don't have to hunt around various retailer's stores to find 'em, and it saves some gas money :)

    Looney Tunes Volume 4: 11/14/06

Actually, I'm quite a big fan of the 50's shorts myself, especially ones by McKimson, which puts me very much in the minority. Too bad some more of McKimson's Daffy & Porky cartoons from the 50's won't be on this set ("Design for Leaving" and "Muscle Tussle" come to mind).

    Looney Tunes Volume 4: 11/14/06

Although the disc themes sound odd, I'll have to wait until the complete list of the cartoons included is released before I can form any kind of opinion. But a disc full of nothing but Tashlin cartoons? Sold!

My Rant: XM Radio's greatly diminished sound quality. What to do?

Thanks for the response, and thats good to hear. I know I'm missing out on some great stuff, like the walkover to the XM studios, for one thing. I just installed a new head unit in my car that is XM ready, so all I have to do is buy the tuner and digital adapter, and I'm all set. :)

My Rant: XM Radio's greatly diminished sound quality. What to do?

I would also like to know what the current status of the sound quality is. I'm thinking about getting XM because I've started to listen to Opie and Anthony again online. I live just beyond fringe coverage of Free FM NY, so I can't listen to the show on terrestrial. But I'm also interested in the...

Opening DVD Ad encodings - maddening and should be stopped.

Disney is one of the worst culprits for placing ads on their releases. They waste valuable disc space with that crap. And then there's that absolutely obnoxious anti-pirate ad that keeps appearing on new FOX releases... at least you can skip it.

Try imdb.com. I'm sure they have a full listing there.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Charlie Chan Collection - Volume 1

Great review guys! I've never had the opportunity to view any Chan films, so this set is going to be a real treat. Many kudos to FOX for having the guts to release these classic films, with decent extras to boot.

HUMPHREY BOGART: THE SIGNATURE COLLECTION VOL. 2 Debuts 10/03/06

I have a feeling that Warners is going to hold off until Vol. 3 before doing any type of remaster on The Big Sleep. While I agree that it is a fine DVD presentation, there needs to be more special features, like a commentary, documentary, etc. And a remaster by Lowry Digital like Casablanca got...

A Few Words About A few words about... Tough Guys Collection

Thanks for the review, Mr. Harris. This set looks wonderful and I can't wait to pick it up. I've never seen any of the films included, but considering that I loved the WB Gangsters Collection, I'm sure I'll feel the same way about this set. Plus, there's a number of classic Looney Tunes shorts...

What's next for King Kong (2005) on DVD?

I heard news that there was going to be a 4-Disc SE later this year (I think it was from thedigitalbits.com), which is what I'm holding out for. That was a few months ago, and I've yet to hear any new updates...

    WHV Popeye 2007

I'm sure that they'll be releasing these shorts chronologically, because it wouldn't make sense to release them any other way; for example, themed discs (like on the Looney Tunes Golden Collections) wouldn't work. Otherwise, I can't wait to see this set... sounds like it will be amazing.

    Warner Bros. Robert Benchley Shorts...

In addition to Robert Benchley shorts, I'd love to see a box set of Pete Smith Specialties. The few that I've seen on TCM and on DVD are very funny and well made.

    The Longest Day (2-disc R1)???

Yes, the new 2-Disc set has a brand-new anamorphic transfer with the original subtitles intact. Worth double dipping for that alone, not to mention the great new special features.

Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

More Frank Tashlin! Finally, after I thought FOX would abandon this release. The box artwork looks great (esp. with the vintage 20th Century Fox logo). Hopefully they'll be fully restored with decent extras.

Any Hope for a "Caddyshack" 25th Anniversary?

I ask because the 20th Anniversary has a horrible transfer. The year is almost half over, but maybe Warners has some tricks up their sleeve. One can only hope...

    Cartoons and DNR

I enjoy both of the sets as well, but I certainly wouldn't consider this issue to be unimportant like you do. If WB is only releasing 60 cartoons a year, why can't they get the transfers right? As the article states, Disney doesn't even use DVNR technology; they restore frame by frame. Disney...

The Warner Brothers chat ANIMATION question you have been waiting to be answered.....

If the set were complete and uncut, I would've cared less about the packaging. Warners deserves all the respect in the world for their superb releases of their classic films. But in the animation department, they deserve all the complaints they get. Its hard for me to comprehend how a studio who...

The Warner Brothers chat ANIMATION question you have been waiting to be answered.....

I believe that the other issues are the DVNR'ed shorts on both volumes of the LTGC - the ones that PatrickMcCart mentioned in his previous post. I would also include the absolutely unprofessional packaging art for both LTGC's as a major problem. As others have stated, I am sick and tired of...

Problem with Looney Tunes LASERDISC set

Volume 5 is supposedly the rarest one. I have volumes 1-3. I paid about $150 for vol. 3, but the other two I got for around $50. Hopefully when more of the LTGC DVDs come out, the prices will drop more so I can pick up the last 2 volumes.

Problem with Looney Tunes LASERDISC set

I also checked my box set and found no problems. I purchased Volume 2 about 3 years ago on EBay. However, I do see the same "splice" in that particular cartoon as David pointed out.

Possible Release of Disney's "Song of the South"?

I don't think this film would send that many shock waves if released on DVD. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the film, but from what I've gathered from various articles, the controversial content isn't that bad. Personally, I don't understand how a film like "Bringing' Down the House", with it's...

DVD Rot or How I learned to begin worrying and hate the format

I had a weird experience with "rot" on laserdiscs. My first player was bare bones. Literally, you would just put the disc in and all you could do was play, stop, and fast forward/rewind. The "laser rot" was a huge problem. Almost all of my discs, some of which had been previously owned but most...

Bill to make skipping ads on DVD's illegal?!?

No offense, but please... the Patriot Act has nothing to do with this bill. This thread already has political overtones to it; lets not make it more political by writing nasty comments like that. :rolleyes
