Have you done anything to split your input signal to the subwoofer? I also have a PB2+ and have bass shakers. Even though my receiver has two outputs for subs when I hook up the bass shakers to the second sub output it reduces the input to the PB2+. The PB2+ seems pretty sensative to changes in...
Each receiver is likely different. My Sony DB 840 with the speakers set to large sends bass and subbase to the sub if the sound coding is set to auto with a two channel input. If I set it to two channel stereo the sub is not engaged and all the sound goes to the mains. I have run sweeps and...
I have a pair of JBL L-100s purchased in 1972. They have the original drivers and are used daily in the home theater. Todays Amps have made them sound better and better with the added power.
If you already have a mix and match set of speakers try them and use them before you go out and buy a whole new set. Invariably even with identical speakers, placement will change their sound characteristics to some degree as well as the adjacent surface materials.
Why not just stick with the Paradigm center if you like the sound. Watch several movies and see if the timbre match is that big a deal for you. I would be quite surprised if you find a problem with it. There might be an across front pan every three movies and will likely not sound that much...
This morning after a bit of frustration trying to eq level out some peaks I decided to try moving the sub from the rear corner position. The sub came alive with the new position. It is still about 4 feet from a front corner but really shakes the concrete floor slab, and blends much better with...
Ned, Thanks for starting this thread. In setting up my PB2+ with my mains I found similar kinds of situations. Say the LFE channel has low output but the mains are not playing low base on the DVD then there is no main to sub interaction. Next sequence could have left and right lows with LFE...
Does anyone know how the THX Optimizer test tones compare with these more complicate disks? Perhaps Ed if you are in a mood to do a bit more testing you could provide some insights regarding the THX Optimizer tones. RICK
I have a pair of L-100's and feel your pain. I purchased mine in 1972 and have used them for the past 32 years. I don't think I could part with them. I use them as mains in the home theater with a bit of bass augmentation from an SVS PB-2+. The L-100s have reasonable output down to 30hz and...
I use the PB2+ in a corner as an end table and it has worked out very well. As you well know each room is different but if your VTF-3 worked well in that position there is no reason the PB2+ should not. Get ready for your couch to shake and for you to have the feeling something very large is...
I checked my Sony DB 840 reciever and found some very interesting things with the variable cross overs. Setting speakers to small and running mains alone I checked the output at the various crossover setting available. I can set crossover to 60hz, 90, 120, 150 or 180 hz. The differences between...
Graham, I am using an ART 351 and have the option of either a dB setting or 6dB setting. I am using it in a similar fashion with the 12dB set up being used to create a really flat curve with the mains in. I have the 6dB setting with more of a hump. I am surprised there has not been more...
Graham, Thanks for the reply. I have done the plot with the two together and with the sub alone. I did get a fairly flat response following EQ with them together. At times on a DVD they will not play together like with LFE on a DTS DVD. At that point it seems like the curve will be screwed up...
Should the sub be flat or near flat with the mains in or out? How should the phase be setup when the phase can really impact the overall output combination? THIS IS GETTING COMPLICATED! I recently worked through the EQ on my sub. When I did the EQ it was done with stereo test tones...
I finished for now EQing my recently purchased SVS PB2+. I expect overtime I will do a bit more tweaking. For me I had a big hump in the 40hz range which made the subwoofer boom at bit. Now that it has been tamed I have found the sub to be less loud but much more powerful down low where I want...
My wife and I watched the movie last night. I also found that the overall volume of the disk was a bit lower than other DD DVDs. The sound quality is excellent and I believe it completed the "break in" on my SVS PB2+. This DVD has bass you can feel, breathe and sense from all directions. Quite a...
Chances are with the low end of the speaker rolling off at 58hz per the speaker specs, you should be setting the receiver speaker setting to small. The cutoff at 80hz is not a step it rolls off gradually. The speaker will still be called on to reproduce some output from 80hz to 60hz. If you...
I would get the sub. You can either use phantom which is fine in the sweet spot. Offcenter listening does not work as well. An alternative is get the sub and pick up a cheap center channel. It will get you the dialog for movies and when listening to music you will still have the sub and will not...
It looks like you might get more benefit from EQ on the old sub then spending money on the new one. I plotted the results and there is little difference in the subs. The 40 to 60 range could use a lift unless your crossover is set pretty low to blend with your mains
Thanks for the input. I don't mind it on movies so possibly I should just leave it since that is about 80% of the use. It does sound very good on action flicks. I am not using much of the subs power however. My room is 16 by 38 and the sub has no problem. Where I find it a bit of a problem...
Craig, Thanks for the quick response. How flat should the curve be?? Do you have any experience with ART 351 equalizer SVS has on their site. I would actually prefer the manual intervention. (control freak) It looks like it goes in line between the receiver subwoofer out and the...
MY PB 2+ is in a corner and is working well except that I have a pretty distinct hump in the 30hz to 40hz range. I have used the phase to try and push the hump down. I can not move the sub do to the size this is where it must stay. Any ideas? Is this hump out of the ordinary? RICK FREQRAW...
