I haven't been keeping completely current on what has been developing regarding the SD video quality when played on a BD machine. One thing that I have noted, perhaps incorrectly, is that Sony regards SD upconversion as an annoyance to be disregarded because there is no profit in it. Now that...
The habit of turning a statement into a question by tacking on "you know?" to the end of it has been abused for as long as I can remember and it seems to have spread nationwide, like McBurgers. The insertion of ", like," has been more recent but even old fat guys seem to feel comfortable...
Has that section of 35W always been eight lanes? I have not used that highway in 20 years, but I seem to recall that the exit to the West Bank took some time to be opened. Or, was the exit always there but a dedicated exit lane was of a later construction?
I hope this is the proper forum, but am sure it will be redirected if it isn't. I have thousands of hours of live music on reel to reel and cassette tapes scattered around the house and want to copy the best of it on cds or dvds. I would need a cd or dvd recorder for that, but it appears the...
This could be seen as a blessing in disguise. I had hoped that the Shuttle would have another failure, but not so catastrophic that lives were lost. And it all happened on the first launch! NASA has demonstrated that the shuttles in general and the foam in particular are time consuming...
The photographs taken while the probe was descending seem to have been shuffled, like a deck of cards, leaving the sequence of events in doubt. The well known images of the pebbles, presumably taken after the probe had landed, can be found near everywhere on ESA's website. This is the...
You can never have too many bashing Walmart threads. So, what does Walmart expect to gain if the legislation succeeds. Walmart's not exactly known for its benevolence.
Mike, I think you're making my point. As safe and dull as 12 hours in that factory were (and they were very dull), it was far less hazardous than 12 hours behind the wheel of any vehicle, not just trucks. And additional time for driving home, if it's possible, makes the workday even longer...
I laid in the foundations for skis at the Hart ski factory for four months in the 80s. There were three shifts, but the most coveted shift was the 12 hour late night shift. You would work three nights for 12 hours, had four days off and be paid for 40 hours. Who could argue? But I wasn't...
Well, I know a few. My sister is an RN and in 1998 I spent the entire summer in the hospital. I had a fleet of nurses. As I look back on it, I recall three shifts for the most part. And certainly a four hour commute was out of the question.
Come on, I know plenty of people that work 12 hr days, and then still get in their car for a 2 hour commute, so that makes someone "on-duty" for 16 hrs. Do you see any problem with that? I don't know anyone who does that. What a waste of life.
I've read it. Fourteen hours on the road would have me popping pills, with or without a break. It's not a "merely" thing, it's something involving lawyers. Follow the money.
No, I will continue to boycott Walmart, which is something that doesn't require much on my part. Home Depots are easy to ignore too. Can you decipher the AP article and illustrate the errors of its ways? It's hard to believe that the retailers are lobbying congress on behalf of their drivers.
There's no doubt that other retailers have an interest in this too. If they had nothing to gain, why employ lobbyists? I wouldn't want the job. The potential is 'up at 0600, drive until 1400, take 2 unpaid hours off to eat, shower, shave, whatever, back on the road at 1600 until 2400...
I found it on the rotating triplet of AOL news, top of the front page. The article itself was from AP. I'll see if I can find a link for it, although the content is compact as is. And if there are other forums, I would be interested. I posted it earlier on a musician forum and the members...
Wal-Mart Wants Truckers to Have 16-Hour Workdays By LESLIE MILLER, AP WASHINGTON (March 9) - Wal-Mart and other retailers are lobbying Congress to extend the workday for truckers to 16 hours, something labor unions and safety advocates say would make roadways more dangerous for all...
And what does Quantum Computing have to do with Data? Data's big advancement had nothing to do with Quantum Computing, it was a positronic matrix.. ?? So why use that photo shot? That's the point. Spaceref was just showing a bit of humor, which is something they rarely, if ever, display...
