Sleep, My Love will be released in Germany in late April. http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000NKH88E Maybe it's the same transfer as the Spanish release.
I received my copy of The Big Steal yesterday and the transfer is probably one of the worst I've seen in a very long time, except maybe some PD releases. Even when you turn off the color of your display the image looks fuzzy and out of focus. Nice job Universal!
BERLIN ALEXANDERPLATZ has just been released on DVD in Germany (no English Subs). It's a new transfer (supervised by the Fassbinder Foundation), so it's highly likely that Criterion will release it as well.
According to a review at dvdrama(http://www.dvdrama.net/fiche.php?5307), the quality is of the French Kiss of Death is awfull. Translation (via Babbelfish): The original trailer offered in supplement presents a silver grain and a contrast superiors at that of the master of film of reference...
For a review of the Alpha version go to http://www.dvdmaniacs.net/Reviews/A-D/big_combo.html I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Alpha version. The transfer is a little soft though, but much better than the usual pd-stuff they release.
There are no English subtitles. However, there is no dialoge in Themroc. The transfer is ok at best, rather grainy and the framing is a bit too tight for my taste.
I have the German version, and it's very good. Anamorphic but sadly in mono. For more information: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...hreadid=225205
I got my copy of Laura yesterday and inside the DVD case was a small catalogue by Fox that said: Coming in June... House of Bamboo Nightmare Alley and Kiss of Death :emoji_thumbsup:
Picked up the German release yesterday. It's a beautiful anamorphic print with 2.0 mono sound (whatever that means). Absolutely recommended. :emoji_thumbsup: :emoji_thumbsup: :emoji_thumbsup:
Hey Henry, Here's the track listing of the DVD, sorry no Harry Nilsson: 1. Do It Again (Beach Boys) 2. Animal Crackers (Melanie) 3. Bobo's party (Melanie) 4. Born To Be Wild (Steppenwolf) 5. Lady Madonna (Richie Havens) 6. Sookie Sookie (Steppenwolf) 7. Natural Born Boogie...
The German Kinowelt release of Angel Face looks horrible, it's a very poor NTSC to PAL conversion. Plus there are forced subtitles in some scenes that were previously missing in the German version.
What bothers me most about the Young Frankenstein DVD (and the Laserdisc release earlier) is the over-matted framing. I may be wrong, but wasn't it shown in 1:33 in Cinemas? Same goes for Dead Man Don't Wear Plaids. Any thoughts about this Gary?
Are there any other R2 releases from Germany not on the list...? Herb, besides Leave Her To Heaven none that I can think of right now. And you included that one already on the list. Again, thanks for this great thread! Oliver
I have the Wild Side release of T-Men & Raw Deal and you can not turn off the (annoying) french subtitles. Don't know if I am allowed to say this here, but I made copies of the discs without the subs. However, it seems that Wild Side only put non-removable subtitles on discs that don't have...
Herb, that's exactly what happend to me with Murder My Sweet. Another Company worth checking out is Wild Side from France, they have released a great looking T-Men/Raw Deal set and some other Noirs. Only problem with their releases, besides high prices and limited availability, are their...
Herb, I have all of the three BFI Preminger discs. The quality is good, not Casablana;), but those are good solid transfers. Check out the review at dvdbeaver.com including screenshots. Regarding the Montparnasse discs: I only have their edition of Murder my sweet and it's an ok transfer...
Over here in Europe we've recently seen Fox release a VALLEY OF THE DOLLS & BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS double feature set in the UK in January. Sadly BTVOTD is a non-amorphic transfer, but looks much better than the old LD. And last month a very nice looking disc of LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN...
