Looking for suggestions... I don't watch enough tv regularly to merit a DVR. I want a DVD recorder primarily to convert tapes to DVD, and to record and archive the occasional movie from TCM that isn't available on commercial DVD. I plan to use rewritable DVDs for the occasional time-shifting...
In an earlier thread on this board, I mulled over getting both a dvd recorder and a DVR, or some sort of combo unit (for which I believe the appropriate term is "hard drive recorder", right?). I definitely need a dvd recorder, to transfer old tapes, and to add the occasional TCM movie not...
I like the idea of a DVR for time-shifting; a hard drive takes up less room than a stack of video tapes. But I would also like the option of burning to DVD if there is something I want to keep and/or view on a different player. So what's the best way to handle it? It seems there aren't that...
RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD- "Send more paramedics." JACKIE BROWN- "AK-47. The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfucker in the room, accept no substitutes." GET SHORTY- "E.g., i.e., fuck you!" A NIGHT AT THE OPERA- Groucho: "It's all right, that's in...
I have it and am generally pleased with it. (I also have the original dvd release from way back, but not the Legacy collection.) The clincher for me was the complete soundtrack. The detriments that others have complained about (soundtrack hiss, picture supposedly too bright, framing issues...
I figured this one out from the tv commercial alone, before I even saw the movie...the kid says "I see dead people" while staring directly at Bruce Willis.
Hi all, I want to transfer a bunch of old VHS tapes to DVD, so I'm considering one of those combo VHS/DVD recorder units. But is there really any advantage to those units over simply connecting a VCR to a DVD recorder that doesn't have a VHS deck? Thanks.
Over at the Classic Horror Film Board, Tom Weaver reports that he got review copies of Dracula and Frankenstein, and they fixed the audio problems with Dracula. He says it looks a little better, too. There's a little discussion of the extras, too...
The Trilogy set has the most footage (not counting GF3), but even it is missing some scenes that are present in the [Epic/Saga/Novel for tv/whatever the hell they are calling it this week]-- such as Michael's conversation with Vito in the garden after he returns from Sicily, and Anthony's first...
I Spit On Your Grave, because I hated it. The Sixth Sense, because my wife hated it. Four Rooms, because I, my wife, and the people we were with ALL hated it.
You are thinking of making a pull-down screen? That's something I'd like to do, but an initial web search on how to do it turned up nothin'. I'd love to hear your plans or ideas on this. Thanks, Joel
Hi Stephen, Thanks for your reply here. On the parallel thread I started about this on the "Tweaking, Connections and Accessories" forum, I got into more detail about what exactly I am trying to do. Would you mind checking it out HERE and telling me what you think? Thanks so much, Joel
Dang! You know what? You're right, I don't have component out. That's what I get for not checking things out thoroughly. Someone gave me the Tivo box. (It is series 2.) I haven't played around with it or even connected it to a tv yet. At this time, I have no plans to subscribe to the...
I posted this earlier on the "Tweaking, Connections and Accessories" forum, but then it occurred to me that this would be a more appropriate forum. Mods, I apologize if double posting like this is a no-no; if so, please delete this thread or the other. I have a Tivo; I'm going to get a...
I have a Tivo; I'm going to get a projector. I can connect the Tivo to the projector using component. If I connect other things to the Tivo (tv though coax, vcr through composite), will the Tivo send those signals to the projector through its component output? Thanks.
For some reason the opening of Plague was re-edited for theatrical release in the US, and as far as I know this is the only version that has ever been released on dvd to date, in any country. (If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know!) The re-edited beginning has the opening credits in...
Yeah, I know VHS will look cruddy via fp, but I have so much stuff on tape that I've gotta include a vcr in the ht set-up. Even though my tapes are all regular VHS, I'm wondering if I should buy an S-VHS player that also plays regular VHS, to take advantage of the s-video connection. Will...
So are the specs saying that the Panny will handle a PAL signal from a PAL player, an NTSC signal from an NTSC player, and a SECAM signal from a SECAM player, but cannot interconvert?
Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this, but here goes... I'll be getting my first projector soon, and I'm eyeing the Panny AE900U. I see from its specs that it appears to be able to handle PAL/NTSC/SECAM. Does that mean I wouldn't need a dvd player that does the conversion? I'm in...
Look HERE about 2/3 the way down. Lustig talks about why he didn't want to re-release the Hammers. But he doesn't mention AB retaining/renewing the rights...perhaps that development arose since the interview. I'd like to see Plague of the Zombies redone with the opening credits restored to...
