I would like to calibrate the sound from my receiver so that it is optimized for my living room. Also, I would like to calibrate the color from my TV so it is also optimized. Is there an optimal setting for color/brightness/contrast? Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks!
Sorry for the confusion. 1.)What would you consider A LOT of slack? 2.)What does increasing the resistance/impedance on the receiver accomplish? My receiver is old and I have no idea where the owner's manual is. Thanks for the responses!
I need to run speaker wire around my living room for my rear speakers. I would like to maybe cut the wire so there is some extra slack in case I need to move the rear speakers to another location later. Does having extra cable then is needed affect sound quality at all? Thanks.
What kinds of reliability problems are you referring to? Out of curiosity, where do the lower models lack in sound quality? Is it just less of a dynamic range?
I am looking at this receiver to be used in a relatively small room.: SONY STR-DE997B I know that it is not even Sony's top of the line series, but for around $330 I was considering it. Is there realistically any noticeable sound difference to an untrained ear such as mine between this...
I want to get some Banana Plugs for my speakers. Should I have plugs that connect from the speaker wire into the speaker as well as plugs that plug from the speaker wire into the receiver? Are they both recommended, or is only one of these connections really needed?
I have a tangled mess of madness of cables behind my home entertainment system. What happens if you connect the speaker wire from the left port of the receiver to the right speaker and the right port of the receiver to the left speaker?

I purchased a pair of these to connect my speaker wire to my receiver. I paid $22 for a pair! 1. Are these the same things as bannana plugs? 2. Do they really make a difference? 3. Should I have them on both ends, connecting to the speakers and connecting to the receiver? 4. Is there...
I currently have all 3 satellite front speakers on top of my wide screen tv. 1. What is the optimal height for front speakers? Ear level? 2. Should all 3 front speakers be aligned or should the center speaker be behind the left and right ones?
1. What did you mean by "the signals going to the speakers are derived in the receiver and are not discrete signals." What does this mean? 2. When movies are filmed are they encoded for 6.1 or is this something that has to happen during the transfer to DVD? If they are encoded, why are...
I originally purchased 5 satellite speakers and a powered sub. I do not think that I will be able to buy additional speakers of the same make for a 6.1 or 7.1 setup. 1.)Would it make much of a difference to add different kinds(brand and model) of speakers then what I am currently using to...
I have a Panasonic widescreen projection TV that I purchased from Costco a few months back. What is technically happening when I view a tv show in widescreen mode that was not intended to be viewed in wide screen format? Is it dropping the resolution?
I have an old 5.1 Pro Logic receiver and am looking for a new one and just noticed a 7.1 receiver in an ad? Where does the extra speaker go? Are dvds currently encoded to take advantage of this? Thanks!
I have been to 2 Home Depots and they do not carry 12 gauge speaker wire. Will I notice much of a difference if I go with 14 gauge instead of 12? The speaker wire for my rear speakers will be running about 35 or so and the front speakers will be about 5 ft from the receiver. Thanks!
Sorry for posting in the wrong area. One more questions: Would you recommend the metal connectors that connect from the ends of the speaker wire into the receiver and speakers (I think they are called bannana plugs? Thanks!
