I'm looking at Plasmas TV and I'm interested in the buying experience of members who have dealt with Plasmadocs. Especially interested in how shipping damage/warrenty problems were resolved.
I find it interesting that no one is arguing that picture quality of a an LCD RPT or DLP set is better than plasma. Is the general consenus that a $6k 50" plasma (Panasonic/Pioneer) going to outperform a high end 50" RPT(Sony/Hitachi/Samsung) set using LCD or DLP?
I currently have a 32" CRT and want to move up to a 50 - 65" inch screen. The room has a lot of windows so there is a lot of light during the day. Are there particular modes to avoid considering? I'm assuming the choice will be between: Plasma LCD projection DLP projection CRT projection...
Playing the stereo 3 hrs a day costs less than $5 month at typical listening levels. Maybe as much as $10 with the volume cranked to reference level with a powered subwoofer as part of your system.
It took Kurt a couple days to respond to my e-mail with questions, but when he did it was an excellent response. I then ordered from them and had my cables in just a few days. I would buy from them again. :emoji_thumbsup:
I've had my NAD 753 hooked up for a couple weeks and I like the receiver but I was surprised by what I assume is the fan noise. The motor has a hum/buzz that seems louder than I would expect. Anybody else experience this?
Only the back will be exposed and its in a hard to reach spot and out of normal view. The equipment is in a cabinet and we keep the doors closed when not in use. For my NAD, I have to cut off the back of the cabinet and let it stick through so it will not have the same protection as before.
My new AVR is a NAD 753 and I just noticed that it is deeper than the shelves on home entertainement center cabinet. As a result it is going to hang out about 2" beyond the unit and lack the dust protection of the cabinet unless i build something to protect it such as a ledge above it to keep...
Lee: The profit rate on consumer warrenties is MUCH higher than on traditional insurance. Consumer warranties typically add a couple years beyond the manufacturer's warranty but cost 20% - 30% of the purchase price. The number of electronics failing in that time frame is far lower than 20%...
How big a room were you in? I wonder if in a huge space, a front firing pointed right at you might seem better than a downward firing woofer (its sound will be dispersed and not reflected back due to the room size). I've heard (but not seen) that HSU's are a bit on the ugly side.
I'm skeptical. ;) A cable's job is to transmit electrical energy from point A to point B without making any change in it. Therefore, it seems that the "perfect cable" does just that and any cable that doesn't is less than perfect. Does anyone have some objective proof of the difference? Rf...
I recently heard the 60 & 600 paired with the 602 S3. The 600 is a little fuller sounding; dialog is a little cleaner. If I had bought the 602s, I was going to buy the 600 as my center channel, even though their website suggests the 60 with the bookshelf speakers.
I would look at NAD or HK. Both have a high current design that should hold up to 4 ohm speakers. I used an HK amp with 4 - 6 ohm speakers for over 20 years w/o any problems.
The bluejeans cable will be fine. The issues are does an extra 10' really matter (probably not) and does coiling somehow induce a magnetic field? I need to do something with the extra cable if I get it. Especially since location #2 is only 5' from the AVR.
I won't suggest zip cord, but in the connections and tweaking forum you'll see some good debates as to whether you can hear the difference between a budget priced 12 guage speaker wire and a high priced 12 guage speaker wire. I would suggest that you probably can't hear the difference between a...
I'm ordering an SVS PB1-1SD. I know placement has an effect on sound and I have identified my top 3 locations to place the unit. Choices #1 & 2 can be reached with a 15' cable (or less) . Choice 3 requires 25'. Should I get a 25' cable and just coil it if I don't use location #3 or should I...
Dave: The PSB's (scratch & dent sale) were on sale at DMC which made me pause since they aren't too bad looking. Fortunately, she said I can the get SVS without the diamond stud option. :) Eric: The PB1-1SD is the maximum size I can go with, so hopefully that will work. We don't crank it...
That's good news; because I was thinking of doing the same thing because of space limitations. FWIW, I just bought some JMLab Chorus 706s for the front and went with their smaller 705s for surround. Most of the voice will come from your front 3 speakers, so the backs can be generally a little...
While SVS is heading my list, these are under consideration as a sub choice (SVS's size and look may result in wife issues). I was wondering if anybody has had a chance to compare / listen to them. Based upon reviews here, the Rava is also a candidate. They will paired with bookshelf...
Interesting discussion. I know that I could not swap the cables fast enough to detect minor variations in sound. Phil: 1) Did you test an optical cable as part of your experiments? 2) How does the Belden 1506a compare to the 1505a (RG-59 type Brilliance Precision Video Coax)or Belden...
I just listened to the 602s and liked them very much, but the price may be getting up there. Only issue I had was a little bit of buzzines on a piano piece in the bottom end.
I agree with Armando. I bought a Hoist Gym with stack weights for less than $1k and it has nice smooth feel to its operation. Also bought an eliptical cross-trainer; that put a dent in my wallet, but I went for a high quality unit that hopefully will last many years.
Marc, you could estimate the SVS PB1 volume from the specs on the website. As I recall they state they walls are 1" thick and you need an allowance of an inch or so for the down firing woofer. Or you could e-mail them. ;)
Zack has some great ideas. Most of the time we listen at well below the max capability, so how linear is the response and can you hear a difference in sound quality at normal listening levels? When do you think you might have the results?
