Recommendation? Sony or Yamaha or Onkyo

I looked at the same Yamaha and Onyko receivers when I was getting ready to buy about a month ago. I listened to both locally. My ears could not tell any difference. I hate to say it but I made my final decision on looks (I liked the looks of the Onkyo better) and the fact that I got free...

    Finally.... New System Installed

Tim, I agree. In most modern westerns (like Unforgiven, Tombstone, etc) the sound of the guns firing are always just too "crisp". Those old western six-guns do not sound like modern smokeless ammo.. (I know, I shoot them). This is the first western where I felt the guns actually sounded...

    Finally.... New System Installed

Todd^B, I bought the sub straight from HSU at hsuresearch.com What do you mean when the bug hits? It already has.... lol. I would really like to get another DVD player to replace the Pioneer that I have!!!! I also need to start my research on an ALL IN ONE remote. It is just too cumbersome to...

ONKYO TX-NR801 or Harman Kardon AVR7200

Unless I am mistaken, the Onkyo 701 has all the features of the 801 EXCEPT the internet connectivity. Do you need this for an extra $200? If not, then get the 701. It can be had for $599 and free shipping from bestpriceaudiovideo.com I have recently purchased and installed a 701 and I am very...

No problem man!!! If you deal with this stuff all day, then your brain must get really tired. After I wired this new system, it was all I could do to think to turn it on!!!!

    Finally.... New System Installed

Jesse, Unless I am mistaken, In series, the resistance is additive R1+R2+R3....... 8 ohms + 8 ohms = 16 In Parrallel the resistance is cut in half for two loads (i.e. 4 ohms for two 8 ohm speakers). When I set this up, on the initial test tone the speaker pair was actually quiter requiring...

    Finally.... New System Installed

MODERATORS: I looked thru the main menu and I didn't see where I should place this topic, so I figured the receiver/Separates/Amps section would be good since this is where I got most of my information. If this is the wrong place, I am sorry and you may move to the appropriate forum.... First...

Hsu STF2 vs HSU VTF2 Any difference on low extension. (MERGED THREAD)

The STF2 that I just took delivery of sounds great in my room. BTW, I got it last week and it was $399 + Free Delivery from HSU to TN. As far as looks go, it is not going to win any beauty contest, but 99% of the sub-$1000, non-wood subs are. I mean just how good can you make a black box...

Finally my new home theater gear!!!

I am also new to this game and I am in the process of setting up my new system. I purchased the HSU STF-2 and could not be happier. I bought mine at their online website and it was delivered in 4 days! That sub is awesome. I listened locally to the CHT-12 and to be honest with you, I think the...

Just picked up the Onkyo TX-DX898.

You can download the manual from Onkyo, here is a link. I don't know anything particular about this receiver but thought this would help. I think if you select the third one up from the bottom on this page, it will ask you if you want to save it or open it...

Onkyo SKS-HT510 - is it an upgrade?

What is your "low budget" budget? That will help people make suggestions. I too have been "budget speaker shopping" for a while now. After much reading here (GREAT SITE), other online reviews and forums, and Manuf. web pages..... I decided to buy the JBL NSP1II Home Theater Speaker System...

    Decision Time...... Take 2

Ok, I think I have finally made a decision... I got some really good advice from my previous post http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htfo...hreadid=181178 and have come up with what I think I am going to go with. What I am after is a good, solid, starter HT set-up that can be expanded on at a...

Decision Time.... What would you do?

For the last 2-3 weeks, I have been trying to decide what HT equipment to buy. I basically have no equipment now except for my DVD player and a brand new Hitachi 51S500. My decisions have ranged anywhere from a HTiB to mid to high end separates.... I want to thank everyone here at this site for...

    HSU VT-12 Ventriloquist System

I was on HSU's website looking at the specs on their subs and saw this system and was wondering is anybody had purchased and installed this system yet. I did a search and not many reviews/posts on it on this site or others.... So does has anybody purchased this system? If so, what do you think?

Need Home Theater Audio Advice/Opinions... Newbie here!

Thanks Tim and Sean.... I am thinking that I will try the 6.5 ft and 16.5 ft for my surrounds first and then calibrate with a SPL and AVIA or DVE. If that doesn't work out, I will return the surrounds for a pair of Bi-poles and place on the back wall pointing forward and try again...

Is it possible to have rear surrounds too far behind?

I just took delivery of my Hitachi 51S500. My main viewing seat is 13ft from the screen. In all the theory I have read, that is too far but I have watched 2 or 3 DVD's in 540P and it is really a nice distance. I tried moving up closer and I didn't like it as well. So viewing distance is...

They are not going to bring the TV until today.... I got free delivery and I felt I would let them break their back or drop the TV instead of me!!! Man, I can't wait.... Thanks for the advice on the single/Bi - pole. I will read about this as well... Has anyone heard anything good/bad...

Thanks Tim. No I didn't know that until I started reading on this forum. I plan to do that..... Man, I have learned a lot here and I am still rather ignorant on the subject... So, you don't think that the differences in the distance 16.5 ft vs. 6.5 ft will make the rt surround sound...

That is pretty crazy TIM... I will try it though... Speaking of wives and HT equipment. Mine is all excited about it.... Am I lucky or what? I knew that was what you meant on the toslink Sean.... That is one thing that is hard for me... to discuss the hook ups in word form and not by sketching on a piece of paper.... I guess that is the Mechanical Engineer in me.... I am having fun trying to find the "right" system for my needs...

Thanks for the input Tim.... It is funny that you mention Paradigm. Last night when I was in CC listening to the Polks, I noticed a guy kind of lingering until the CC guy left. He told me that I needed to stop by this local "High end" audio store that is local and listen to the Paradigm...
