I saw that... and, honestly, I trust Cameron and his technology but... I can't help but be worried about the result. Color me a bit sad after hearing this news.
I've been holding off buying this one. I know, based on the many comments and reviews, that the BD of AVATAR is near perfect reference quality and I just put in a 9ft screen and a 7.1 system. I really want to watch it again but... I... just... can't... I can't bring myself to buy this version...
Just got in: THE ELEPHANT MAN (UK BD - StudioCanal Collection) THE COMPANY OF WOLVES (UK BD) PARADISE LOST (UK BD of TURISTAS) SUNRISE (UK MoC BD) CITY GIRL (UK MoC BD) SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD (UK BD) Just got an AMAZON.CO.UK shipping notice for the UK multi-disc release of Romero's DAWN OF THE...
2012 was certainly silly, but it'll look great on my new 9' screen, so I'll have to buy it and skip to the last hour which, in my opinion, was the best part. :)
I watched this last night and agree about the quality. The weird horizontal banding during the fades alarmed me a bit, especially since my 9' projector and screen were new... For a moment I thought it might be a problem with my set up but, yeah, the transfer was pretty average overall.
I figured as much, but there are way to convert those nice HD file versions you can download online from Yahoo Movies and Apple into DVD compliant files for a home theatre.
I can't agree with this. As a company that has dealt with MANY Japanese studios, we have nothing but respect and praise for the studios and the titles we have licensed. Toei, one of the largest studios in japan, has been absolutely amazing with their help and support to let us put out the best...
Me, too! I just rented it from Netflix and enjoyed it quite a bit. I was in college in the mid 80s and remember a lot of the music, etc. I'll be buying this one as soon as I can find it fairly cheap.
Thanks, Robert! Because of your high recommendation, I just picked this up sight unseen. I didn't have a chance to see this in the theatre, but the high praise you give it made me curious.
I just tried to do this, twice, using their online cart, etc. I have 15 titles to trade in. And, both times I tried to do this, I never received any sort of confirmation email with the "printable bar code" that identifies my order when I send in the covers. I did it once, but waited all night...
I have to say that while I wasn't overly thrilled with the picture quality on either OXFORD BLUES or DOC SAVAGE, I had the chance to watch DUSTY AND SWEETS MCGEE and CAPTAIN SINDBAD this weekend and was quite happy with the results (I have a good system that de-interlaces well).
The colors of...
I skipped over the promo when watching OXFORD BLUES last night, but watching it now, I noticed they edited the promo with the clip of BHOWANI JUNCTION still suffering from a slight anamorphic squeeze.
That's disappointing! I bought 10 titles and spot-checked a few of them using my PS3/Sony 60" LCD and didn't notice, but both these pieces of equipment have excellent de-interlacing capability.
I watched OXFORD BLUES all the way through last night and, on my 60" LCD, it didn't look all that...
That post on another forum was mine. NEMO is indeed anamorphic widescreen. 16x9 / 2.35:1
I ordered 10 discs and have spot checked five of them. So far, I am very pleased with the quality (with DOC SAVAGE being the exception... it's NOT a terrible transfer by any means... it's just not as...
I've seen pretty much all his films, either on video or in the theatre, and I'm not much of a fan. But, he DID make a pretty darn good movie called TUNNEL RATS. I saw it in a packed theatre last year and EVERYONE was going to it just because they thought it would be bad... we were all set to...
Thanks for the kind words! I am extremely proud of the BD release of THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE and I was impressed with how close the encode looks to the original HD master tapes I created. Definitely the best EVER presentation of the movie.
This is, really, the culmination of almost 14...
It was shot on 16mm and blown up to 35mm for theatrical release, but, when I restored the film for Dark Sky, I stayed in the realm of the 16mm negative. I created a new 16mm element from the 16mm A/B roll negative and transferred that... I didn't use anything in 35mm for the HD transfer.
Also...
OK, I am reading this thread and I have to jump in. When I did the original Elite version of NOTLD, just to set the record straight, the entire IMAGE TEN team (including Romero) was involved in every step of the LaserDisc release, including the transfer. Romero wasn't available to be there...
Synapse Ramblings From the Cyberverse: OK, now THIS is some funny stuff... No, I didn't make this... it's pretty hilarious, though, so I had to share it with you all. (With apologies to DOWNFALL... and Bill Hunt, of course...)
Just finished watching my BD Netflix rental on a PS3. No issues to speak of... good movie, too! Played perfectly... only took a few extra seconds than usual to load.
You know what? I bought it and don't recall EVER watching it. Figures... I found another LaserDisc gem in my collection today... I actually have LATE FOR DINNER. Another one that has yet to appear on DVD in any form in the US. I wonder why? It's actually fun, quirky and Peter Berg [FRIDAY...
Well, we're chatting about it right now. Now that there seems to be (at least at this moment) a clear winner (that's OUR opinion anyways) we have been discussing it. The problem is that the prices aren't very "indie" friendly... the costs of doing BD are astronomical for a little company like us...
That wasn't a rumor. I met with a Sony exec who flew out to meet our company (and took us out to a nice steak dinner! :) ) to discuss BD plans. When the subject of THRILLER: A CRUEL PICTURE came up (a title we released that has scenes of explicit sexual content) and our desire to release it in...
Unfortunately, no, I don't have any of those. After this thread, I decided to go downstairs and browse around my collection (at least the ones I could reach without moving more boxes), and I discovered I had a SEALED MINT copy of MGMs WILD WILD PLANET!!!! Of course, I opened it and watched it...
Hehe! When I moved about 5 years ago, a friend who was helping me decided she'd do me a favor an alphabetize my LD collection on those shelves. She gave up after about 30 minutes. None of those are in any order whatsoever. I know I have a rare copy of the 1983 horror/comedy classic WACKO in...
Gads! I have THOUSANDS of LDs in my basement still. I have no idea what to do with them. I wish I could sell them on Ebay but listing all that stuff just seems useless with all the fees I'd pay. Here's a pic of a partial view of my LDs in my overloaded basement of crap. See anything you...
