I also think that having plenty of room below the crossover helps with sub integration and this along with the fact that every monitor I have liked ends up costing as much or more by the time I've added stands has me looking to floorstanders once again. But I do basically agree that at a...
Here is a new pic of the front panel with the flip-down door open. Seemed that they have streamlined the controls a lot. http://www.avland.co.uk/pioneer/vsxax4/panellrg.jpg Anyone want to venture a guess as to what the Phase Control and MCACC Position buttons on the left do? Bob
Kenneth- I have done a bit of listening to the Mozarts along with the Theatro center and the Waltz rears. I listened to a variety of stereo music as well as listening for use in HT. I thought the speakers provide a lot of detail throughout their range and nice punchy bass. They sounded...
John- I would think that House of Music carries the Performance series. I need to call Marantz and find out if anyone in the Phoenix area will be carrying them. I'd be very interested in your take on them when you do hear them. Bob
I only heard Mordaunt-Shorts briefly at House of Music and cannot even remember the model. They were definitely nice speakers although they had a bit of an edge to them The salesman said they were not yet broken in. I am interested in hearing what the Performance series sound like. Bob
I am curious how the Boston Acoustic acquisition is going to effect Marantz distribution of Mordaunt-Short products. I swear this is the most incestuous industry in the world. Bob
Oh, come on John. You gotta at least acknowledge that Harman has some great brands with Crown, Lexicon, Revel and Levinson. :) But I do know what you mean. Bob
(Sorry this is so long.) I spent the better part of two hours yesterday listening to the Tannoy Sensys DC2s. I thought I'd post my impressions since there seems to be so little info on these speakers available online. The Tannoys most definitely lack the bass extension of the Monitor...
I've listened extensively to the MA Silver 6s with Silver Center and Silver 1s for rears. I really like the sound of the MAs but I've been haunted by a brief previous encounter with the Tannoys. The Tannoys would be the Sensys DC2s with the Sensys DCC and either the DC1s for or Sensys Rs for...
Firewire is used for audio in A/V applications. I'm not certain if the S400 variety typically found on audio gear could has the bandwidth to handle video. Bob
Rob- Thanks!! I kinda thought that might be the case but it's nice to have it confirmed. I can't find anyone in my area who actually has a 59AVi on the floor. Bob
One thing I find interesting about the Pioneer players is that the 47Ai has Mosquito NR and Block NR while the flagship 59AVi lacks these controls. Are they called something else on the 59AVi or have the controls been made redundant by improved hardware? Bob
My new home has a great room with vaulted ceilings and I'm wondering what difficulties I might encounter. The front will be on a wall that is 9 feet tall on the left increasing to 14-15 feet at the right, approximately 25 across the front. Bob
Ahhhh....Sam was my bad experience. I'm going to check out pricing at Hacienda. I will be going to CA on business in a month so I will also check out pricing at Good Guys and DMC. I'm not in a huge rush as they are still putting in the low-voltage in the walls of the new house. Bob
I much prefer to spend my money locally simply because it helps the local economy. Even for stores like Showcase where the money gets sent elsewhere, they at least add to the local economy through employment. Did you deal with John Neal at all? Bob
Thanks Jon- I'm, in fact, shopping at Showcase on Camelback. They have been really great to deal (with with one exception - but maybe the guy was just having a bad day). Which store do you deal with? How do you find out about their sales? The sale you mentioned would save me a nice chunk...
Spent half the day doing an audition of two 5.1 systems: Monitor Audio Silver 6s with Silver LCR and the Silver 1 bookshelfs pulling rear duty versus Paradigm Studio 20s with CC-470 and Paradigm Atoms in the rear. The Monitor Audios came out on top due to a more open midrange and less bright...
Nearly the same height but you try stacking that pre-pro atop the amp or (shudder) placing that heavy amp on top of the pre=pro. Personally, I hope to work my way up to separates using a decent receiver as a starting point. Bob
It seems that there is a major game of king-of-the-hill in play between a number of companies. These companies" flagship no doubt bring the acclaim which leads to sales of their lower price offerings. I think it also reflects a bit of a change in mindset: super-receivers are seen as sensible...
Don't forget that this thing is 12 inches tall which means the backplane will be huge. I suspect they will have an abundance of ins-and-outs available. However, others are saying that the 4805 and 5805 are delayed until CES rather than October. I really would like to know the pricing and...
Hi Danny- We had chatted before about the MA Bronze series but the step up to the Silver line is quite remarkable. I resolved my issue with the center (it just needs a little boost) and am now deliberating between the S2s and S6s. Next week I will be auditioning a full-theater setup of MA...
I thought I was all settled on a Paradigm setup with Studio 20s for mains. Then I listened to the MA Silver 2s. Even in a showroom with much less than optimal placement, these things just sang and sang. No matter the type of music, they sounded good and always engaged me. I repeatedly heard...
I was wasting some time today at a local audio store and gave another listen to the Monitor Audio Silver 2s. When I set them to small and adjusted the sub volume they really sounded great even though they were within six inches of the rear wall. Yeah, they was a noticeable hump in the upper bass...
I'd second the Monitor Audio suggestion. I have been drawn to their Silver 2s but they are rear-ported. It really all comes down to personal preference and, of course, each of us hears differently. My partner likes things brighter than me so it is always a struggle to find something we can...
