FYI - I originally bought an Onkyo 805 and ended up returning it & replacing it with a Denon 3808CI. The reasons were described on another forum, copying below if anyone is interested:
Re: SACDs, I just got into these since getting the 3808 since my PS3 plays them (who knew?) and can output...
I'm sure adding this post will cause much chagrin, but I had to throw my two cents in. I have, a couple different times, been negatively affected by the GB issue. Once I had exactly 118 GB of video to store, so I bought a 120 GB hard drive (foolishly assuming it equals the same 120 GB displayed...
In fact, there is no digital audio output whatsoever from a GameCube. It's RCA red & white cables only. Despite that, the sound can still add a lot to gameplay (e.g. Metroid Prime) assuming your setup can properly handle Dolby Pro Logic II (or even regular pro logic, as mine does).
Regarding fan noise, since it will fit in my entertainment center inside a glass-door-enclosed compartment, I'm thinking it won't be noticeable. If it is, that's one noisy fan!
I emailed Time Warner (Albany, NY area) about the 8000HD and in case anyone else is a subscriber in that area, here's their response: "Our technical staff is currently testing the new SA8000HD converter. We are hoping to make this new converter available to customers within the next few...
After ordering a new 30" Toshiba HDTV (30HT83), I decided that to fully benefit from the new purchase I should have a dedicated HTPC to possibly replace my existing (non-progressive) DVD player and to watch other video files. (Instead of my current setup which uses a PC in another room and about...
Well, I ordered this set last night. I also ordered a bunch of cables (component video & coax audio) from bluejeanscable.com and an Audio Authority 1154 switcher (my receiver has one coax and one optical input). Can't wait to see the better video quality!
I don't know of any way to capture 'straight to hard drive' using compression. However, if you have a digital camcorder with DV output (I assume you do) then you can capture a large DV file on the computer and then compress it using any number of options (XviD, MPEG-2, DivX, etc.) I'm not...
I've read this whole thread twice now, and I'm close to deciding on the Audio Authority 1154 over Zektor for 1) auto switching and 2) less moolah. It seems only one person thus far had any issues passing HD video through the AA1154, and I just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced...
Too bad about the lack of coax digital. I wonder if using the composite video input for coax digital audio would work? Anybody see a problem with that? I found the following picture online of the back of the unit, but the forum won't let me post the actual URL (GRRRR!!!). It's: www dot...
Does anyone know of any pictures of the back of this unit? I haven't been able to find any, and I'd like to before I buy it. Also, does it handle digital coax audio or just optical?
I posted previously that I was considering a 30" Toshiba 30HF83. While true, I'm also seriously considering the Sanyo PLV-Z2 after realizing that I may be able to place a screen on a different wall than the main TV and hook up a 2nd set of (hopefully unobtrusive) speakers that I can switch to...
I've gotten far more gameplay out of the GameCube than my PS2 (I've had them roughly the same amount of time) ... although I'm not big into shoot 'em up games, so that makes a difference. I paid $199 for the GC, and I still don't regret it. Metroid Prime was easily my favorite game of the last...
I've had a Scientific Atlanta PVR from Time Warner for around 7 months now, and I've been more than happy with it. Other than the occasional minor issue (takes a while to change channels) that you can get used to, this thing is great. I've had discussions with my Tivo-owning workmates and they...
Hey all - I've been debating between whether to upgrade to a front projector w/ screen or an HDTV-ready TV. Because of a lack of space in our living room, a lack of funds for a good projector and screen, and because our recently purchased (and expensive) entertainment center can only handle a...
