can you explain this distortion in more detail? I just returned my newly purchased 225 (from harman audio refurb) because of video-out issues. Sometimes the OSD seemed "slanted".. like the letters were being pulled to one side.. just totally distorted... also, during loud noises, the video...
if you're concerned that the punch may not be enough with the stf-1, you may want to consider the STF-2, but that does not mean it will be needed. I have the STF-2 with my 602's (601s in the rear), and it runs at about 40% volume to match my speakers in volume at reference level (and the...
who did you buy this refurbed unit from? I bought my refurbed HK from their Harman Audio ebay store, and returned it within 30 days because it was having video display issues -- they covered the shipping charge for me.
Congrats Richard! It was only a few weeks ago that I finished my 600 series 5.0 setup (except with an LCR60...couldnt defend the increase for my tiny room)... as for your questions.. I did a blind test switching between large and small settings for my 602 S3s, and found that i enjoyed the...
greg: I have a similiar H/K refurbed (AVR 225) and it powers my B&W 600 series (DM602 S3 mains, DM601 S3 Surrounds, LCR60 center, hsu STF-2 subwoofer). They sound beautiful, while in a small room with horrible acoustics (16x11.5x8 with an odd dining area opening up several feet to one corner...
I tried to ask the guys over at B&W, but all i got as a response was, "users find improvements with the grills off"... I wanted to know if there was REALLY any difference -- as in measured ;)
#2 response -> I had the same concerns with my side speakers, as 1 side was safe from being bumped, but the other wasnt. Also, add in the fact that my GF did NOT want to see the back end of a speaker sitting in between our dining room and living room... fix: use Dolby's (B) alternate...
great post. I was concerned about this in two past movies i was watching: Air Force One, and Reign of Fire. Certain parts of JUST the dialogue were distorted.. i ended up reducing my levels to -20db below reference, BUT COULD STILL HEAR IT! Out of concern, i popped in a music cd and...
but we are not talking about great speakers with a cheap receiver. We're talking about B&W's lowest model with a modest reciever like HK or Denon. While I support your theory of not matching great speakers with cheap receiver, this is not that case. He would be better off pairing a...
well Fran, you'd definetely be satisfied with the Rotel, but I dont think you'd be justified in spending that much on a receiver when you're spending so little on speakers, compared. over 50% of your total cost being devoted to the receiver is just lopsided, and i really believe you'd get...
I dont think the Arcam, or Rotel recievers is what Fran Lu is looking for, considering the leading characterisitic of the DM300 series being affordability... Fran: I use an HK AVR-225 (55x5) to power my DM 602 S3's, DM 601 S3's, and LCR60. Im running them with 12ga Sound King, in a small room...
ouch :frowning: way to send me into depressed mode, man. I just upgraded by $99 futon with a $7.99 bed pad, touched underneath.. 2x the cushion!... what's got you down, man? wife not letting you listen at good ol' reference levels? :frowning:
If anyone has ever had the issue of a) not being able to mount surround speakers on the wall or b) place them on stands next to their sitting positions (high traffic area issues for me -- and GF would not allow it), then there was always C) placing the speakers face up, behind the seating...
It is my opinion that you'd be wasting money getting the B&W DM604 S3 and the ASW650 Sub. I strongly suggest you considering buying the DM602 S3's (same mid driver as the 604) and then look into an SVS subwoofer or Hsu. You'll save money and your bass will sound much better. Besides...
your rational seems fine on your recent improvements. From what ive seen, only a few movies, on average, tax below 25hz, but there will be plenty of other material in the 50 range you want to play more evenly.
10db doesnt seem very reasonable to me. Youd want that down atleast half, or as best as you could get it -- why dont you try the old technique of placing the sub in your seating position, playing the tones, and walking around testing different locations for it. Once you find the most flat...
I have compared B&W 600 series speakers that were broken in through 6 months of constant floor room use, right next to some taken out of the box, and the difference is definetely there and amazing.
they are shown with stands on the B&W site -- this may be what you saw. Also, B&W offers a light finish on the 600 series as well as them in black. Go have fun this weekend.
Seth: go to www.bwspeakers.com and you can search for a dealer in your area to demo the B&Ws. Like i and others said, with the SVS, do not get suckered into a floor standing model -- it wont be needed. I currently run the DM602's with a HSU sub and the combination is beautiful. The 602s have...
If you go with b&w, you will not need 603s with that sub -- stick with the DM602 S3's for the front, 601s in the rear, and then either an LCR60 or LCR600 for your center (B&W recommends the LCR60 to go with the DM602 S3s). DM602s = $600/pair. LCR60 = 350 LCR600 = 500 im picking up...
no -- the issue is directly from the reciever. I confirmed this by switching the binding posts the wires were connected to. I moved the left speaker to the RIGHT output/binding posts... then moved the right speaker to the LEFT output/binding posts. This switched which speaker sounded lower...
I did not see that.. but these speakers are rated at 90dB for sensitivity (so that shouldnt be an issue). Ill try it again at -10dB (I tried at -15dB as stated in the manual).
I just recently recieved a refurbished HK AVR-225 from their authorized Ebay store. Upon setting it up, i began to use their EZSet SPL callibration tool, but the levels did not seem right... I havent gotten a radio shack analog SPL meter (though i will), but without doubt to fix the levels, I...
wait a sec, nick -- you're going to only sit 6' away from your 50" tv? Does't that seem a bit tight? Keep in mind you may want some room from your front speakers and the wall(s) theyre near.
