    Dragnet 1970 To Be Released!

Just recieved this today... I thank Shout Factory for making it possible for all of us to get the final seasons of Dragnet, but I have one gripe... Universal used the Keep Case packaging for Season 1, Shout went to boxed thinpak's for seasons 2 & 3, and now Season 4 is back to the original...

    F TROOP SEASON 2

That's my point... where did this "announcement" take place? I have not seen it anywhere. Do you have a URL?

    Get Smart!

Just an update- I got my new "Phone Booth" from Time Life on Friday and while the sets fit a little better they are still a very tight fit. Apparently it is just the way they designed it :-(. Kudos on the discs though, I'm halfway through Season Two and have been very pleased with the quality.

    Get Smart!

I think Time Life is really trying to do right by the fans on this release. I got one of the earlier sets that is great to view, but the sleeves fit very snugly in the case. I e-mailed the Time Life people shortly after it arrived and inquired about a replacement for it, but never heard back...

    GOMER PYLE USMC FINALLY!!!!!!

I was just doing a little reading on the Paramount TV site and saw this reference in the description for Gomer "This series has been partially transferred into HD beginning with Season 1 and has the following masters: Network 4x3 HD (episodes 1 to 30. Episodes 31 to 60 in progress)"...

does anyone have any CSI or CSI Miami covers for the slim cases? I haven't found any definitive ones so far on those sites above

    I LOVE LUCY 7th, 8th, and 9th season

A few points here. First of all Greg Oppenheimer's father Jess left I Love Lucy before the original series ended, and as such Oppenheimer has no 16mm copies of any of the season six episodes or the Lucy Desi Comedy Hour specials. In fact he was going to cut off his involvement with the DVD...

    Get Smart!

I got my set yesterday as well, and I've been very impressed. My set like others is a little hard to work with, the season sets fit very snugly in the "phone both". On the other hand I was very pleased with its' size, the phone book takes up very little shelf space for an entire series. Other...

    Get Smart!

Mine shipped today as well... great work on Time Life's part to deliver what appears to be an outstanding product all at once. Other studios could take note.

Shows You Hope Will Be Completed In 2007

I'm hoping to complete these series in 2007: Everybody Loves Raymond F-Troop- Season one is out, hopefully they will finish it up I Dream of Jeannie- with S3 schedule and two to go there might be hope Mary Tyler Moore Seinfeld- Seasons 8 & 9, maybe they will group them together I'm...

    Get Smart!

Agreed Gord, I think this "whole series at once" concept is a marvel idea and I think it would actually increase sales, especially for series like "Get Smart" that are destined to do well anyway. Personally I find myself saving up and buying my TVonDVD collections in large "chunks" anyway- I'm...

The beginning of the end for classic shows?

Agreed, that kind of falls in my line with the F-Troop/Jeff Foxworthy Show deal though. If a short lived show can be released without remastering and all of that it stands to reason that it is a possible money maker for the studio, and because of the small # of eps is something they can put out...

The beginning of the end for classic shows?

I think the reason for the apparant "slowdown" isn't one factor but many. First of all you've had many libraries change hands this year and several mergers that have slowed down releases of some sets. Also you've seen more of an effort to "fast track" some series in order to complete them. For...

DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

I missed something... is he referring to WB starting to use slim cases for TV sets, or for something else?

    Historical Televison Events on DVD?

I would be interested in sets like this as well, and I believe there would be a market for them. After all everybody used to say nobody would buy TV shows on DVD and look at that. Of the major networks CBS has the best archival operation, and has saved almost every news special, live event...

DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

Does anyone out there have any of the slim 8, 10 or 12 disc cases you're not using and would be interested in doing some swapping? I have plenty of the 3,4,5,6 and up variety but I need at least one 8 disc case and maybe a couple of the others, but I don't want to have to order ten of each...

DVD Thinpak and other Slim Cases

I saw earlier this week where apparantly we're going to get a 12 disc version of the slim cases soon... http://www.genesysdtp.com/dvdcase.htm advertises it as coming in 1-2 months!

    Andy Griffith Season 3 --- August 16, 2005

Just one point on these Public Domain release comparisons. You've got to understand Paramount didn't authorize these Public Domain releases, and they certainly don't supply the prints to these companies that produced these discs. They had to go out and buy their prints from old tv stations...

    Andy Griffith Season 3 --- August 16, 2005

Here is the quote (and an irresponsible one I might add, if you don't know don't speculate) from the review that started all this mess... I ust checked this episode on the Public Domain DVD put out by the Sterling Group (their two volumes seem to be the "best" of the TAGS PD releases) and on...

    Andy Griffith Season 3 --- August 16, 2005

Guys I would hold the boat on this one until everyone has seen the set in person. The person who wrote that review was only SPECULATING that a song was missing because of the length... that's exactly the right length for a syndicated version. Paramount has made every effort in the past to...

    Andy Griffith Season 3 --- August 16, 2005

That's good news... as Dave and others have suggested I bet they're having to go with the "Andy of Mayberry" theme music again like Season 1

    Andy Griffith Season 3 --- August 16, 2005

David it could be..... The episodes were filmed and originally aired with one version of the opening & closing credits (and music), which of course integrated the sponsors product images into the fishing scene in the closing credits. When the show went into re-runs during the time new...

    Andy Griffith Season 3 --- August 16, 2005

Well theoretically they COULD, but the distributors like to control how their shows are presented and providing an already "edited" version makes it possible to do that. Plus you're talking major bucks for a station to do their own editing. In the case of Andy Griffith a station wanting to...

    Andy Griffith Season 3 --- August 16, 2005

In the case of Andy Griffith the "possibly edited" warning on the Season 3 set is most likely because of lack of available master elements, or damage to original negatives. When syndication switched from 16mm film to videotape Viacom went back to the original TAGS copies and remastered each...

I'm getting totally DISGUSTED with collecting TV series on DVD

Gregg Oppenheimer in the past posted messages on the old I Love Lucy mailing list (circa 1997-98) indicating when & how the cuts were made.. many of them were made in the early years of the series of the show when several of the episodes were reruns during Lucy's pregnancy. These are the ones...

I'm getting totally DISGUSTED with collecting TV series on DVD

I don't think the fault is necessarily Paramount's but instead it exists from the Viacom days. You've got to remember most of these shows like Lucy & Andy were produced in the '50's and '60's by production companies that controlled everything. (The Brady Bunch is newer, and IMO should have...

I'm getting totally DISGUSTED with collecting TV series on DVD

Not always... but if you aren't careful every missing bit of footage can turn into a conspiracy theory ;) ;) Just remember studios are here to make a profit, not to make everybody happy. If they're selling DVDs they could care less if you're ticked off about a missing minute or two. The...

I'm getting totally DISGUSTED with collecting TV series on DVD

One more point on the availability of uncut masters... for film shows you can have master negatives go missing, get damaged, etc but the risk is even greater for problems with VIDEOTAPED shows, or shows post-produced on Videotape. In the case of shows like Sanford & Son or All in the Family...

I'm getting totally DISGUSTED with collecting TV series on DVD

I'll add some input on this thread now both from a personal point of view, and from my knowledge of several of Paramount's Series. In I Love Lucy's case fans are lucky to have Gregg Oppenheimer, the son of I Love Lucy Creator Jess Oppenheimer, who was hired to oversee the ILL on DVD project...
