Component Color Issues with Onkyo TX-SR674

I recently bought an Onkyo TX-SR674 receiver in order to add multiple inputs - I liked the idea of running my Sony DVD player and various game consoles through the receiver instead of having to use a separate input for each on my Panasonic TV itself. Since my TV doesn't support HDMI, I used...

    *** Official CARS Discussion Thread

I would give Cars a B+/A-. As others have mentioned, I liked the opening short a lot, and much like Pixar's other shorts, it set the right tone for the movie. Cars itself opens well, and introduces Lightning's character with a lot of fun, although Owen Wilson was just a bit too recognizable for...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Howl's Moving Castle - VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEDED

Although I have no trouble with the English track, I would agree completely with you here... I was actually a bit disappointed in the film, because I felt that a lot of the book's subtleties and fairy-tale context were subsumed into Miyazaki's own interests. While there's of course nothing...

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy DVD review

For what it's worth, people seem to have a similar reaction to the books. They're so absurdist that people who try to hold on too tightly looking for the plot or a standard narrative flow often end up confused and frustrated instead of just enjoying the insanity as it comes. Personally, I...

    Undeclared episode order?

Has Shout Factory made any offers to replace the original printing with the correct order when it gets corrected? It's a real pain to have to flip between discs just to get the correct order, not to mention having to consult a list to figure out what on earth is going on.

March of the Penguins in Chicago

Has anyone been anticipating/able to locate this film in the Chicagoland area? I understand it's supposed to release this weekend, if not earlier, but haven't been able to find it anywhere. I've heard only rave reviews from my friends in New York so I'm eager to check it out; friends and I have...

My Pet Monster/Denver the Last Dinosaur

I loved My Pet Monster too, and I can still hum the Denver theme song. It's been so long that I'm not sure if I'm even making this up any more, but does anyone remember a live action movie based on MPM? I haven't even been able to track down information on it, much less find anything on dvd...

***Official The Incredibles DVD Discussion (merged) Thread***

Also, the vault concept works to create a need to purchase a dvd for people who are otherwise on the fence about the idea. Because of the ready availability of most dvds, I (and, I suspect, the vast majority of more casual viewers) often wait to buy titles that are not must-haves until I have a...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind: Recommended

I believe it's technically supposed to be pronounced "Naw-SIK-ee-uh". To grossly oversimplify, the umlaut indicates that two linked letters are two be pronounced distinctly. My copy of the American Heritage dictionary seems to agree.

More Miyazaki DVDs coming in 2004

IGN DVD has a review of the dvds up today, and the reviewer is extremely negative on, among other things, the picture quality of the releases (particularly on digital tvs). I don't suppose anyone else has seen these yet?

Cartoon DVDs: Will HDTV be any better?

The only reason studios would improve their output on those types of episodes is if storage capacity is the main constraint preventing them from increasing capacity now. Since you can fit more than 3 high quality episodes of any show onto a dvd, I'd say the odds of that happening are pretty...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Iron Giant - Special Edition

Thanks! That'll definitely cut down on my searching time. In the future though, it'd be nice for the makers to put them as a separate menu option.

DVD Review HTF REVIEW: The Iron Giant - Special Edition

The Behind the Armor segments are nice but it would be great to be able to watch the pieces separately, without having to rewatch the movie again to find them.

*** Official THE INCREDIBLES Discussion Thread

One thing I've noticed in the posts of people who were disappointed by the movie (both on the review threads here as well as professional critics) is that many say that it wasn't as funny as Pixar's other movies. This struck me as an interesting complaint, because it seems to echo the...

After thousands and thousands, I have spent my last dollar at Best Buy

This post struck a chord because the same exact thing happened to me last week -- for some reason, the manufacturer decided to print full/widescreen as inconspicuously as possible on the box, and since my local Best Buy didn't differentiate between them when stocking, it was only too easy to...

The Iron Giant SE - Due 9/7/04

Is it just me or does this seem like an odd choice of release date for an Incredibles tie-in? It seems like if they were really trying to capitalize on Bird's new movie, they could've picked a date far closer to the November release of his movie. Or maybe I'm just missing something...

    City of God release

As I understand it, it was scheduled to be released relatively quickly, but got pulled when it got the Academy Award nominations, in the hopes that they would be able to slap an Oscar-winner sticker on it afterwards. Unfortunately, it didn't work out quite according to plan and so I believe it's...

Will there be more season sets of Cartoon Network?

I'm with the other posters. I find Samurai Jack far too stylized for my taste -- I can watch only so many letterboxed attack sequences before I start feeling a little naseuous -- but I'd buy Dexter's Lab season sets in a second.

    Invader Zim

There's a review up on IGN right now... http://dvd.ign.com/articles/512/512353p1.html Too bad about the interlacing problems, but I'm just glad it made it out at all.

    Freaks and Geeks reviews?

I ask this question pretty much guessing what the response is going to be, but here goes: I picked up the regular edition of this set blind and really enjoy it, and now I'm having second thoughts about not springing for the yearbook edition. That said, lots of people have said the same thing...

THE WONDER YEARS (Consolidated Thread; No New Ones, Please!)

The release of Freaks and Geeks seems like an perfect opportunity to review the potential for the Wonder Years. It used a good number of popular songs, by well-known artists, and its audience, I must imagine, wasn't nearly as large as a Wonder Years demographic would be. Yet it's managed to see...

DVD Review HTF REVIEW---The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

The Best Buy deal is in their national ads and on their website so you're safe... $29.95 gets you both the remake and the original. I'll definitely be picking it up -- it wasn't brilliant but it was the first movie to disturb me in a while.

*** Official ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND DiscussionThread

If I'm not mistaken, Jim Carrey actually mentions the significance of the name in a conversation with Clementine at the beginning of the movie. So presumably it's intentional. :) (For completeness' sake, it's the feminine form of the Latin for merciful or gentle. I think there were a few Pope...

    DVD Review HTF REVIEW: Spellbound

Picked this up as a rental last night; I had been dying to see it since I missed it in theaters. Very interesting to watch, especially to see the kids who have devoted themselves to the bee, instead of simply being pushed into it by their parents. I did have a problem with the audio, though...

    Disappointing Disney News

Interesting points, although I suspect probably erroneous. Mega-corporations let large customers dictate their business tactics all the time; it just happens with less frequency than smaller companies because the biggest firms rarely have such single, powerful clients. Wal-Mart, as probably the...

    Disappointing Disney News

Ultimatedisney.com posts the disappointing news that Disney will from this point forward use early sales figures to gauge whether or not to continue full- or wide-screen editions of its live action films. After a few months, one of the editions will be discontinued. The Santa Clause 2 is cited...

What happened at the Staddon chat?

What's interesting to me about the music issue in DVDs is that the product has already been created, so marginal licensing fee revenues would be pure profit to the labels/artists. At this point, they are making nothing from their music in the Wonder Years; you would think that they would prefer...

Is that Iron Giant SE still coming?

You can find a DVD Times review of the Korean version (Regions 2/3) at dvdtimes.org.uk/content.php?contentid=3726. Hopefully some additional special features will be added for the R1 release, considering how long it's been in the coming.
