Paramount Celebrates Centennial with contest and a PEEK at new Blu-rays on the way.....

I have to say Paramount's 100 is disappointing. Yes, Wings, To Catch a Thief and Chinatown are welcome releases. But Hondo? Which WAS originally released by Warner instead of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance or his last film The Shootist? Or what about Hatari? There are countless Paramount...

Did Paramount quit the catalog releasing business?

I was just at Best Buy Burbank and they added some Paramount titles in the 7.99 bin. Quite a few were considered out of print. Amongst the titles, Fatal Attraction, Payback, Black Rain, Nacho Libre, Dreamgirls, The Untouchables, The Warriors, Disturbia, Eagle Eye, Blades of Glory, Indecent...

Is The StudioCanal Collection from Lionsgate a dead series

I did not know that about Belle de Jour and I guess Pierrot le fou is not big enough seller to stay out of circulation because the 2 retailers I mentioned it is still readily available. Studio Canal must not be hoarding all the titles though, because Léon Morin, Priest was released by Criterion...

Another Hitchcock set from Universal....and NO BLU-Ray???

I think I read that Uni was going through with restorations of the Hitchcock titles before releasing them on Blu ray. A few of them really looked bad on DVD. I'd rather them not rush anything out and take time in doing them correctly. The Birds was talked about for 2011 so I would guess we would...

Is The StudioCanal Collection from Lionsgate a dead series

I'm thinking they are not continuing with releases through Lionsgate. There is a Belle De Jour hint from Criterion and Pierrot le fou seems to be available again through Amazon and Barnes & Nobel.

Let the buying begin... 2011 B&N Criterion sale (50% off) begins Tuesday, July 12

So far my haul has consisted of these Blu ray titles, Vivre Sa Vie, Naked, Beauty and the Beast, People on Sunday, Everlasting Moments, Black Moon, The Magician and pre-order of High & Low. I may snatch a couple more titles before the sale ends.

Report: Blu-ray Sales Falling Short Of Expectations Even As Prices Decline. Are you still buying?

I currently have about 715 blu ray titles. I'm not ready to throw in the towel, I hate streaming and Digital Copies. I love having the disc and love having a film library. Honestly, I cannot imagine a world without any type of physical disc to own and hope I a right. My opinion is we will...

Will Fox Release The Poseidon Adventure 1972 On Blu Ray

My guess, next year for the 40th Aniversary. Perhaps in a digi book.

Any guesses regarding the latest (May, 2011) Criterion newsletter "clue"?

I'm going with Paul Schrader's CAT PEOPLE; It fits the criteria of what Criterion releases. It is quirky and has cult following, they have a good working relationship with Schrader and they release quite a few Universal titles. Kinski turns into a panther and wears a slip that is like the one...

    American Graffiti Blu-ray DNR issues?

I'm pretty sure you are correct. "Graffiti" was financed by Universal and was made before Lucas was a name. Ditto with Spielberg with Jaws, Duel, Sugarland Express. It is a shame about this title, other reviews have confirmed this. Not sure what is with Universal and Blu ray, they started...

Collections - Warners way or Universal?

I was at Best Buy yesterday and picked up a couple 4 FAVORITES COLLECTIONS from Universal for $4.99 each. These 2 I picked up; they are 2 discs sets with 2 films dual layered on each disc. No extras and there is not a chapeter menu. 4 Movie Marathon: Classic War Collection (Wake Island...

Paramount Catalogs on DVD returning as via Double Features via Lionsgate.

I found these Paramount titles as Double Features on Amazon for 7.99 each. Lionsgate has taken over distribution on them. (Sorry if this has been mentioned already…I tried a search before I posted.) Now Available: Jade/Bless The Child The Black Orchid/A Breath of Scandal Best...

Paramount's 100th Anniversary In 2012 Any Surprises Coming To Blu ?

Le Mans is an odd choice for a studio that virtually releases no catalog titles whatsoever. But I guess it is better than nothing at this point. Still, I'd love to have Chinatown, Hud, To Catch a Thief, Ordinary People, Ragtime, The Shootist, The Bad News Bears (original) Gunfight at the OK...

Why is SONY so slow to release catalog titles?

Most of Sony's catalog titles are being released by Image, or at least 70's, 80's and 90's titles.

Paramount's 100th Anniversary In 2012 Any Surprises Coming To Blu ?

I think it would be a surprise if they actually released anything. If they were to I would guess films like Sunset Boulevard, Chinatown, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Odd Couple, To Catch a Thief, Airplane!, Ordinary People, Rosemary's Baby, Love Story, Roman Holiday, An Officer and a...

Will Paramount Release Rio Lobo and Other John Wayne Movies On Blu-Ray?

I would of thought that Universal would have released Rooster Cogburn to tie in with the True Grit release. It would be nice if Paramount started releasing more classic catalog titles.

    Marilyn Monroe on blu-ray

There has been rumor of How To Marry a Millionaire and Seven Year Itch for a while. Gentlemen Prefer Blondes has also shown up as a Blu ray release. I'm kind of wondering if Fox is waiting until 2012 to release a box set on the 50th Aniv of her death.

BBS STORY: I was able to obtain this set over the weekend. Watched Last Picture Show, Five Easy Pieces, King of Marvin Gardens and Drive He Said. 3D Frustrating, pathetic lack of 3D software...

I think this just shows how limited 3D is. You are only really going to get visual documentaries, animated and some action films. To me is is a useless format. Just give me a good film with yop notch writing, acting and direction. There was a time when films stood on thier own and did not...

    Your want/prediction list for 2011

The Miramax catalog was bought recently but I imagine that you're going to see alot of their titles coming out so they can start seeing a return on their investment. I'd be surprised if Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown weren't available by this time next year. And I don't know if the Dimension...
