XM commander - FM modulation question

I can get an XM commander at a really good price, so I'm considering putting XM into my 2003 Dodge Ram pickup. The stereo in the truck is the OEM AM/FM/CD only unit. My understanding is that the commander uses FM transmission to get the XM programming to my stereo. How much does that impact...

    Denon 1600 DVD-Audio help

Done. Works now. Of course the kids are in bed, so I'll have to sneak home tomorrow at lunch to really play with it. Brian L - thanks for that link to the FAQ. If I'd found that earlier, I could have avoided those frustrating Denon manuals and gotten this resolved hours ago. I'm saving that link.

    Denon 1600 DVD-Audio help

Well, no, they're not. I thought my optical cable handled the function, based on those Denon instructions, but I guess not? If I understand correctly, I also need to connect my 1600 5.1 audio out RCA jacks to the 3803's Ext In jacks. Thanks for the help. You guys rock.

    Denon 1600 DVD-Audio help

I've got the DVD1600 hooked up to a Denon 3803. Finally bought a DVD-A disc, Fleetwood Mac's Rumors, but I don't know that I'm getting the correct DVD-A performance. And, given the poor quality of the Denon instruction manuals and being a DVD-A newbie, I'm not exactly sure what I should have had...

Velodyne VA-810 - best way to connect to Denon 3803

I do have the manual, and it does say that when using the line level inputs that the "satellite speakers will be crossed over at 85 cycles removing the lower bass from ... your speakers". Also, there doesn't appear to be any way to disable the crossover. Later in the manual, it states "Some...

Velodyne VA-810 - best way to connect to Denon 3803

My current sub is a Velodyne VA810 from the early 1990s. Has in internal 85Hz fixed crossover. Inputs on the back are line level and speaker level inputs. Instructions say to hook it up to the stereo speaker outputs and let it's internal crossover do the work. There is not an option to bypass...

Kef Q70s paired with new Denon 3803. Any concerns?

My current HT has a Denon 2500 driving Kef Q70s as the main speakers. I also have a Kef center speaker from the same timeframe (1994 or so) that I don't recall the number for. I'm buying a new Denon 3803 to go with my new HDTV monitor. This will show you how little I've paid attention since...

    Video switching?

Biggest reason I want it is simply a spin off of what Bob mentioned above - but I call it the Grandparent factor. When my parents are babysitting the kids, I want them to be able to make one simple change. Set the receiver to TV for TV, VCR for VCR, etc. I want the simplest method possible...

    Refurb Denon Avr-3803

Just pulled the trigger as well. 3 week wait. That may be a good thing. Wife had agreed to let me buy a new TV (Sony KF42WE610) and DVD player (Denon DVD1600). I'd been debating replacing my old Denon 2500 with a Denon 1804 for about $380 and begging forgiveness. Now I've gone and dropped...

Sony KF42WE620 - does it display both 1080i and 720p without conversion?

To be more specific, if it receives a 720p signal does it display it as 720p or have to convert to 1080i? Or if it receives a 1080i signal does it display as 1080i or have to convert to 720p? The Sony sales guy told me that it displayed both formats directly, but after reading so many...

another 'receiver as video switch' question

Rich - I'm with you. In EE school I made a deliberate decision to not retain any of my statics, dynamics and particularly thermodynamics. (That was also more than 20 years ago, so perhaps it's age and not deliberate.) Though you'd also fail EE301 now, what with you already forgetting ohm's law...

another 'receiver as video switch' question

Rich - you're really getting to the root of one of my questions also. I've seen the same specs you have, but I'm not sure they answer either of our questions. When they say "bandwidth", what do they mean? In the abscence of any other information, I assume they mean -3dB bandwidth. (The point...

Receiver as video switch - what impact does composite video bandwidth have?

Bob, That helps a whole lot. The remote solution does seem to be a simple yet great one. Passes the grandparent test yet removes potential sources of degradation from the setup. Appreciate the switch link as well. The AVR price difference is $300, so that will be a worthwhile read. Many...

Denon 1804 vs. 2803. Can either handle HDTV video bandwidth?

Replacing my Denon AVR2500 (Pro Logic only) as part of HT upgrade. Buying Sony KF42WE610 RPTV and Denon DVD1600. I've used the 2500 as a video switch. Wasn't a problem with non-progressive scan DVD and old non digital TV. Ideally would like to use the new AVR as a digital switch also. But...

Receiver as video switch - what impact does composite video bandwidth have?

OOPs. Title should say "component video"... That "read this first thread" is great! But there's one question I still have for which I can't find an answer. I've bought a new Sony KF42WE610 and Denon DVD1600 - both to be delivered next week. I understand that my current Denon 2500 A/V...

It will be a new, Denon factory warranty.

Dolby Pro Logic Surround vs. Dolby Digital and video switch questions

D'oh!! Thanks for the link. (Somehow I missed that "read this first" post at the top of the page. I'll blame it on age.) Does seem like everything I need to know is there - except how to come up with another $1k or so for a new receiver. Apologies for the out of place post.

Dolby Pro Logic Surround vs. Dolby Digital and video switch questions

I've got a 1994/1995 Denon AVR2500. The surround sound is Dolby Pro Logic 5.1. Was a decent A/V reciever when I bought it, and I haven't even considered upgrading since I love the music sound and it did a fine job with surround sound on the movies I watched. Works well as a video switch with...

Denon DVD1600 - repaired store demo; what should I watch for?

Eric, sounds like you think a refurb for a few dollars more may be a better option than a store demo with a new laser. But I don't know where most refurbished players come from. Are they also usually store demos? Or warranty returns? Again, I'm not trying to be paranoid, just trying to figure...

Denon DVD1600 - repaired store demo; what should I watch for?

Went DVD player shopping. Based on comments I read here and other places, I was hoping to find a Denon DVD1600 that someone still had in stock. The only one I found was a store's floor demo model that they were sending in to be repaired. They told me it needed a new laser. They agreed to sell it...
