I bought the Sound & Vision Home Theater Tune Up DVD several months ago. I used it to calibrate my main HT system and the one I have in my basement recreation area. It really did help. I just bought a new Sony 36" direct view and I want to calibrate it along with a RS sound pressure level meter...
I have had this receiver since October. I got it from eCost and paid about $155(USD) delivered as a so called Onkyo factory refurb. It replaced my Yamaha RV902. I was impressed with the improved sound from the Onkyo HTR510. It sounds fantastic! I put it through the paces with several DVD's and...
Blue Crush...the surfing sequences at Pipeline will showcase your system suprisingly well. Not the most sophisticated and intellectual plot, but the surfing, cinematography as well as the sound are all captured extremely well. You'll need a towel to dry off after the first paddle out at Pipe!
I can speak about Pinnacles a bit. You are correct, it is tough to find a lot of reviews about them but the ones you do find are all extremely positive. I bought the AC-650's about 7 years ago and they are an outstanding pair of bookshelf speakers. Buy.com still sells them I think and had a...
Hello Moderator! I apologize for misplacing this post. I meant for it to go in the HT Basics forum. There was a topic titled Digital Cable Box or similar and that is where it should have gone. Sorry. Thanks,RonJon I too went to the Comcast office to get an upgraded digital converter...
If you are interested in the Onkyo 501, you may want to look at the Onkyo HTR510. It is essentially the same as the TSX601...some differences with the power ratings, other then that, tough to tell the difference. There are some good deals out there on speakers. Buy.com has Pinnacle AC 650's...
This box has both coax and optical as well as SVHS for video. I connected the SVHS and it makes a difference in overall picture quality as was stated elsewhere in the forum. However, the digital sound connection is questionable as I have hooked up an RCA cable from the coax out. I have only...
Try the Onkyo HTR510 that they have at eCost for $150 delivered. It will drive your Pinnacle system well. It would normally sell for $300 or so. Also, you may consider the Kenwood VR7060. It goes for around $320 or so.
Thanks Michael. Would I do better to utilize the Toslink optical digital output over the coax? Does using regular shielded RCA cable instead of actual coax cable have any effect on the situation? Thanks!
I just upgraded to the newest digital cable converter box that Comcast carries in the Philly area. It's a Motorola DCT 2000. I any event, it has a coaxial digital audio out, optical audio out and composite audio out. It also has S-VHS video out. I connected the S-VHS out to my TV and I noticed an...
Jill, Another option that would really cover the bases(no pun intended)for you would be 2 Velodyne VX10 subs. You can check them out at: 6th Avenue Electronics. They are reputable and have .06 shipping per item. They would come in under $300 for both delivered. Split them out from your...
You should take a look at the Onkyo HTR510. eCost is selling them for $150 or so delivered. They are allegedly refurbed by Onkyo and come with the factory warranty. It has quite a few features for the money and adequate video switching. I bought one and am quite pleased with it especially for...
Hi Larry, Thanks for the reply. I'm not suggesting the DVD player change is the reason for the difference in sound quality. I am wondering if the DD decoder on the Onkyo is better then the decoder onboard the oler Toshiba DVD(SD3109??)
I just purchased a new Onkyo HT-R510 receiver. It replaced my trusty Yamaha RV902. I also hooked up a Samsung DVD player with component cables and used a Toslink for my audio connection to the Onkyo. The audio blew me away. It was outstanding in comparison to the Yamaha, which was a 5.1 ready...
