Standalone DVD vs. HTPC - From the Standalone side

That's good to know, but I only asked about picture quality. I'm going to be spending quite a bit on PC parts to rebuild my wife's PC, so the additional cost of using it as a DVD player is negligible. My only concern is picture quality. If I can't get top picture quality out of the PC, I won't...

    DVD burner ???

If you can find one inexpensively, get a Plextor. MY father is still using a 6X CD-ROM I got for one of my PCs back around 1994(?). Not a glitch, hickup or problem in 10 years. I've had similar reliability with the 3-4 Plextor drives I've purchased since.

Standalone DVD vs. HTPC - From the Standalone side

I had been seriously searching for a DVD player to get, and was waffling somewhat as to whether to get a 910, 1600, 963, etc. However, as my wife's PC needs a serious overhaul, I'd started to wonder if my proposed PVR box could standin for a standalone DVD player. I read some Secrets review of...

Any idea why? Anything comparable to the Denon 280X series without as significant a cost hit?

    Denon Receiver Question

I am looking at getting a new receiver when I purchase my new DVD Player, and I was wondering if I would notice a difference between Denon's 1604 1804 and 2803 receivers? I would be using it only for home theater purposes (DVD Player, VCR, & DISH Network). My speakers are a hybrid Energy Take...

    Denon 900????

From what I have read, the 910 fixes a great many things that were wrong with the 900. There's a review of the 910 (maybe also the 900) on hometheaterhifi.com that goes into some of the differences/improvements. I've seen the 910 on the web for $229.

    Newer alternative to Denon DVD-1600?

After much searching, I had finally decided on the 1600. Basically I needed best picture quality possible in a progressive scan player with component out (TV has DVI, but doesn't seem all that useful, yet). However, I had found three places with great prices for the player, only to have them run...

recommendations for higher end video and audio cards for pc?

If you want a really powerful video card and audio card, get an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 9700 or 9800 for video and a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro. The two together should run about $600 with the 9800, or $480 with the 9700. The difference between 9800 and 9700 is pure speed. If you...

Plain old Progressive Scan DVD Player question

I got a Sony 34XBR910 a couple of months back, and it's great. My DVD player, was never up to par, and is now starting to go on the fritz. So, I'm looking for a new player. Progressive scan, must have component video, DVD-A and SACD not required, just top picture quality. DVI seems to be a...
