Michael, In addition to using the threaded rods to hold the ends on, I would grab a tube of Liquid Nails/construction adhesive to adhere the PVC pipe(if that's what you're using) to the end pieces. Then you won't have to worry about the sand leaking and if there ARE any bugs in the sand...
"A really big spoon"?? LOL, do you have any idea how long it would take to melt enough lead to fill speaker stands with that method? I would bet he could start now and work at it 12 hours a day, and would be about 1/2 finished a couple of weeks from now if he was lucky! Pine derby cars are...
Just FYI..... PE has free shipping this weekend on all orders over $99, so it would be a good time to save a few bucks(or a lot of bucks since PE charges so much for shipping).
Craig, I really don't want to get in an arguement here, but YOU are exactly the kind of person that I was talking about. If you don't have something helpful to add, just ignore the thread if it bothers you so much. Let me quote you......
Dan, Thanks for the actual technical explanation. That's all I was asking for :) You HAVE convinced me and I'll brace it according to your design. Thanks again for the professional reply. And thanks to the one or two other people who tried to help. To the others who just wanted to give me...
Hi Joe, I was just referring to the link I posted. I'm sure there are some high end companies that underrate all of their amps. But out of the companies on that list I posted, H/K is the only company to underrate all of their amps. There are a couple of other models here and there besides the...
Click on me ---->THIS should help you see how H/K stacks up against other companies rated watts. As you can see, H/K is the ONLY company to underrate all of their amps. A lot of the companies so-called "100 watts" can only put out 30-50 watts before clipping/distortion when driving all channels...
I'm about to start putting together a sealed Mid Q Tempest box tomorrow. The box is a perfect 21-1/2" cube made of 3/4" MDF. I've built a number of boxes for car audio subs about this same size, for subs that are running up to 1200 watts with a LOT(20mm+) of xmax. I have NEVER had an issue...
I would probably use acrylic if you're going to try it. And this is just a guess, but I think 1/2" is too thin. I'd say at least 3/4" or 1" if you can afford it. Also, have you thought about how you're going to polish the edges to get a smooth finish?...or are you going to have the shelves...
Thanks for the replies everyone :) I did a little reading around, and from the info I gathered from this thread and elsewhere, it sounds like the sanding sealer is probably best for me. I'll give it a try this weekend and see how it turns out. And Allen Ross.....Last night, I spent a while...
Allen, Thank you for the reply. I'm new at this, so I'm sorry for these very stupid questions...... 1.) Is the primer made up differently than paint? Will the edge not soak up the primer like it does the paint? 2.) Should I use a oil or water based primer? Same question applies to the...
Hey guys, I'm about to start building a few pieces of A/V furniture including a box for a Tempest(can't wait:D). My plan is to paint the MDF with a black semi-gloss, and finish it with 2-3 coats of satin polycrylic. I've been playing around with some test pieces. I've achieved a very nice...
Jack, No, it's not rainbow at all. The lines take on whatever color is being displayed on the screen. I guess it's pretty hard to diagnose this over the internet. I was just trying to avoid using my warranty for service, since they won't do home repair due to how far I live. Time to lug this...
Thanks for the reply Jack and Jeremy, This is frustrating not being able to really describe what I'm seeing. Spinning wheels definitely wouldn't be the right way to put it though. It's more like a bunch of lines that run parallel to each other, but in a wavy pattern. There are no actual...
I own a JVC I'Art AV-32F703 and really love it. There's just one problem.... When using the 16:9 mode, I have an issue I can't resolve. When in 4:3 mode, it's fine. But as soon as I switch to 16:9 there are circular patterns formed in the picture, most pronounced near the L/R sides. I really...
Thanks Michael and Rachael! That's good news. I was planning on getting a Tivo unit soon anyways. I just didn't realize it would convert to s-video. Thanks again! Mike Allen
Thanks for the replies. Okay, forget the digital audio. So, is there a cable box that I could use that has a s-video output? I looked around a little online, and didn't see any with s-video, and most were descramblers(which I'm not interested in). Thanks, Mike Allen
Hey guys, I have regular(non-digital) cable TV right now. I do not have a cable box. Just a regular RG-6 cable coming from the outlet straight to my TV. I then run the audio outputs from the TV to my H/K 325. What I would like, is some type of converter that would convert the RG-6 to s-video...
Stephen, H/K receivers have a 2 year warranty unless something changed in the last week :) My vote goes to the H/K :) I just bought a 325 and am extremely happy with it. Mike Allen
Tom, Sorry if I was unclear. What I mean, is H/K underrates their amplifiers. And most other companies OVERrate their amplifiers. So my point is, while the H/K 525 is only rated at 70 watts, it most likely puts out around 80 watts. And while....(let's say) a Pioneer may be rated at 100 watts...
I could very well be wrong, but this sounds like a problem with the receiver.....Unless(like stated above) you have a resistance problem in a speaker(s). That "70" watts is equal to most companies 100-120 watts. It shouldn't be shutting off like that when it's stone cold, especially if you...
Don't know about the Dayton, but the PE amps are used by many many people. It's one of the best amps for the money out there. I believe I remember hearing it benched @ 280watts. I haven't heard any complaints about them. Do a search in the DIY section and they're discussed more there. Mike Allen
