The official BLADE RUNNER SE thread. (Check out page 8 and #790.)

Great news about the Vangelis soundtrack. Thanks for the info. It will be a long Christmas list for me this year indeed. I saw the Final Cut in Chicago last weekend and while the sound was not as great, in that presentation, as others have reported elsewhere (it was a little wobbly and...

The official BLADE RUNNER SE thread. (Check out page 8 and #790.)

Amazing looking set for one of my all-time favorite films. I very eagerly pre-ordered it at Amazon. A three-and-a-half hour long documentary? 45 minutes of deleted scenes? This has surpassed my expectations, which were already very high. I have to admit that although I don't know what I'm...

Films that you fear may NEVER be released on DVD.

I'm beginning to lose hope on YOU'RE A BIG BOY NOW. I would have thought it would've come out by now...I mean, it's a Coppola film, and plus you could make some cheap DVD cover art that makes it look like a sleazy sex comedy. That should move some boxes. As long as I have it...

"Yellow Submarine" DVD? (The Beatles animated movie)

Wow, I had no idea this had gone OOP. It's an excellent DVD, and a brilliant restoration. It was a lot of fun to see the restoration on the big screen back in 1999 or so. And if you haven't seen it yet, and like the Beatles, you owe it to yourself to seek it out. It's a masterpiece of...

    Masters of Horror

Yes, but for the price you're paying for those, you could have acquired the whole season in a reasonably-priced four-disc box set. Greed is the only motivation in this release. I've seen a handful of the episodes, and some I liked and some I didn't, but I really looked forward to have the...

    Masters of Horror

No box set? And only single-episode discs? I've been waiting for this because I don't get Showtime. If this is how the show is being sold, it's a rip off.

El Topo coming soon from Criterion / Eclipse

It's been over a year since Jodorowsky announced in Toronto that his feud with Klein was over and that the films would be coming out on DVD. I hope we're at least a little closer to the real thing. I'm getting impatient! Would it be possible to get an undubbed print of either film?

MST3K Vol. 8 - All four episodes now announces - release date 9/20/05

Hooray for Monster-a-Go-Go! I've never seen it, but I've been anxious to for a long time. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't make the Sept 20 release date.

Criterion's September slate; Nic Roeg, Godard, Campion, Mike Leigh...

I agree with Rich's comments, and I'm excited about these announcements too. But it seems really odd that Criterion is doing The Man Who Fell to Earth, since Anchor Bay just recently, it seems, did their own SE. Is it OOP? Are they trying to get back at Anchor Bay for releasing an anamorphic...

    Ripping Yarns (R1) Aug

I have the UK version, and it's worth it. I believe the supplements, which are voluminous, are the same (commentaries on all the episodes, etc).

Harold Lloyd Trust signs DVD deal !

The talkie version REALLY doesn't work. The worst Harold Lloyd film, as far as I'm concerned. Can't wait for these DVDs, though. Especially Safety Last and Speedy, two of my favorite silent comedies.

    You're a Big Boy Now?

Any chance of this early Francis Ford Coppola satire coming out on DVD? I'm surprised it hasn't come out by now. Great soundtrack by the Lovin' Spoonful, energetically shot by Coppola and highly entertaining...does anyone know who's sitting on this one? Are there any other fans?

Wim Wenders: Until The End OF The World Directors Cut DVD in US??!

I hope it includes Alice in the Cities, a wonderful 70's road movie.

Mystery Science Theater 3000: Season 1 box set... maybe

There are so many great episodes in that public domain list. I would love to see King Dinosaur (one of my favorite episodes), Santa Claus, The Violent Years, etc. They should get going on THOSE. I seriously doubt this rumor, if only because I can't see Rhino getting the rights to the Black...

    Rutles sequel coming - finally!

Yeah, some of it's awful (I agree about the mis-editing of the "Living in Hope" performance), and some of the interviews are funny. But this movie doesn't really need to exist. Since too many years have passed for Idle to film some new scenes with the Rutles (they're far too old to play young...

Jeunet's A Very Long Engagement: May 24 (now JULY 12)

I loved this film as much as Amelie. It can be confusing--reading the excellent book helps--but it's the most underrated movie of 2005. Like Terry Gilliam's films (whom Jeunet is often compared with), this will be better appreciated over time. Can't wait for the DVD.

Starchaser: The Legend of Orin - 6/21/05

One of my favorite animated movies when I was a kid...if only because it had swearing and violence! Kind of a PG Heavy Metal. I'm very excited about this coming out, but no, I don't know of anyone personally who has heard of this film. From my memory, it works just fine "flat." I envy those of...

    MST3K Volume 7 unveiled.....

Three Joel episodes! And now two major gaps are being filled in Rhino's MST3K collection...Hercules films and Japanese films featuring obnoxious kids. My only question: will Assignment Venezuela be an extra, or another mail-in offer, like Shorts Vol. 3?

Possible Release of Disney's "Song of the South"?

That wasn't even close to my "logic," or my argument. This is about slavery, not just race. And slavery was brutal. Ehh, I'm too tired to argue, I was just trying to explain why the film is controversial, but the argument has been trivialized at this point.

Possible Release of Disney's "Song of the South"?

Thanks for your thoughtful post, Ernest. I still think it's different when a white man takes stories from slaves and appropriates them into stories for white folks told by a jolly fictional slave--as opposed to just one culture riffing on another, as in most of your examples. To restate, I do...

Possible Release of Disney's "Song of the South"?

So many of you are defending Song of the South because you can't find anything explicitly racist in it. But I think you have to pull back a little bit to understand why it's controversial. The furor over Song of the South is really part of a long-running controversy over Joel Chandler Harris...

Odds of R1 releases of Michael Palin's POLE TO POLE or ATWI80D?

The best Christmas present I got this year was the complete Michael Palin collection from BBC Home Video, with all of his travel documentaries. I doubt all of these will ever come to Region 1, so I recommend getting a region-free player and importing the discs. I just finished watching Around...

DVD Review HTF Review: The Saddest Music In The World

Thanks for the great review. Maddin is one of my favorite filmmakers, and if you liked him, you should probably check out Careful (my personal favorite), on a great DVD from Kino which also has an hourlong documentary on Maddin's work, narrated by Tom Waits. Careful is an Oedipal drama set in an...

The flyer IS in the Saddest Music in the World DVD. No street date on the Morris films, just "coming soon."

Agreed. There aren't "seasons" of the Daily Show. Thus the name.

Ghost in the Shell 2 on December 28th!

I saw this film in the theater and it was subtitled. (Great film, BTW, and I'm one who didn't care for the first.) So there's no dub to use...one would have to be made especially for the DVD, which would cost a lot of money (hiring voice actors, etc.). Correct me if I'm wrong.

    MST3K Vol. 6 Due 9/21/04

A guy in charge of distribution at the local Best Buy told me it had been pushed back to November. But then I found it at Borders, and got to watch Attack of the Giant Leeches last night, as I'd hoped I'd be able to...
